[H] Issue with my router (Thomson TG585 v7)

Hey, TL. I'm sorry if this situation has been discussed about before, but I am starting to feel like this is becoming an emergency for me. As of late, I can only enjoy about 30 (if I'm lucky) minutes of uptime on my current internet connection. I do not know if it can't handle the processes I run (IdrA's stream, youtube, spotify etc.) due to the speed of it (1mb down/0.5 up) or if the router itself is broken. Why would I think that it is broken?

Well

I am connected via ethernet and get a popup stating that:
”Your ethernet cable is not connected”, which is total bs as my cable is connected, and isn't damaged at all.

When I check the router, both of the lamps for the ethernet are off, i.e it's not functional.
Then, a minute after that, the wireless dies, and I have to spend about 30 minutes praying that it all works for another 20 minutes.

Also, my brother is usually connected via wireless, but he uses an ethernet cable for the xbox. My father is also connected via wireless.

Please help me, TL. This is not just spoiling my fun online (watching streams, skype, reading news), but it's also making it really hard, and annoying, for me to study properly.

I have read around on several different pages, but I don't seem to understand how one changes things like standard IP's, but those always seem to apply to wireless-users, and don't really explain the problems I am facing.

I have pictures of my router, and what happens when the ethernet goes offline, if that would be of interest.

This does sound like an issue with the router. If it was the ISP or your cable/DSL modem, you should still see a link light on the router ports that have ethernet cables plugged in.

Have you tried updating the firmware? Most newer routers have a utility on the menu that automatically will download the latest firmware from the manufacturer and install it for you. Ifyou have the router sitting on something cloth or have the vents blocked off, it could be overheating. Could also be that the router has just died, the cheaper ones don't last forever; though you should try updating the firmware first.

I don't know about the cable disconnecting. There's an issue with some Thompson firmware that causes traffic to get cut off under heavy load which is fixed by removing a UDP line via telnet, but obviously that isn't related. My wireless is cutting out while watching Youtube on my phone after 5-30 minutes randomly and I have no idea why. Thompson modems are utter crap, complete and utter generic homebrand toilet paper of the modem world.
