Lovin my U2410. One of the last 16:10 monitors of its kind.

What are your guys' opinions on the Asus VES47H 24 inch led ?? Is it any good?

The VH236H does not reverse ghost and has some nifty features while you're at it. If you must get that monitor, just get it because you'll like it if you're set on it. If you want an academic answer for a low end monitor, no its not good because it reverse ghosts, like all VE series monitors, and any 24" TN monitor is too expensive anyway.

I have a couple samsung IPS 24" monitors, they're quite nice and have extensive tuning capabilites, was able to calibrate them perfectly with the help of a digital camera and 20 minutes or so of tweaking.

Just exchanged my BENQ XL2420 for a Samsung S23A950D. Immediately better quality and no dead pixels! Will keep you updated with more details later... but I can definitely say the Samsung S23A950D is probably the best monitor for gaming (I play BF3).

Are you a Samsung sales rep? Or just a BenQ hater? I'm unsure, every single post I've seen from you has involved subjective praising of Samsung monitors, and most have also included negative opinions about BenQ.

Well I have £175 GBP roughly, which is around $275 if I'm not mistaken.

and something like VH236H costs about £150, or roughly $150-160 in the States, by the law of lol-American-pricing-is-a-lot-lower-thx-to-no-VAT-and-high-volume

K, so checked out the selection at Best Buy earlier, and it is even worse than it was when I worked there. They only had one IPS monitor (LG, matte - looked similar to my TN, to be honest), and I was looking around at Samsung AIO PCs to get an idea of how the glossy is. Regardless, that's pretty difficult to gauge in a store like that and without seeing how it looks when running SC2/BF3/etc.

I was looking for a samsung because I have a 40 in LED samsung that I use for xbox and movies and I love it. But while I was looking this caught my eye, it was on sale for only 140 when I got it, and has gone back to normal price since, but I have to say I have had no issues with it and the picture does look nice. I can't complain about anything other then the buttons and menu operation on the screen, it's not hard once you figure it out just unusual set up.

Unfortunately, that's the only way you're going to get a good idea of what monitor X and monitor Y will look like in your house. I know its fairly difficult to gauge inside a store but it does give you an idea of what you're getting.

Without trying, you'll never know how bad/good glossy or matte coatings are, how amazing/disappointing 120hz is, or just how small the 2560x1440 pixel pitch is. That's the best advise I can offer unless you're willing to buy blind...which then you can find what you want and pick one from the OP.

If he didn't calibrate it, the BenQ monitor is trash. If he did, I don't know what he's smoking because its actually a really good monitor if you don't mind the matte coating. Reviewers have managed to achieve a good black depth and a monstrous contrast. It has height adjustment (!) as well as very complete connectivity and OSD options.

Its not like any of these gaming monitors are amazing out of the box. They all need calibration to deal with banding issues as well as stuff like black crush.

So after reading previous posts here i was looking at the asus vh236h as my possible new monitor as im desperately in need of one, for under £180. My only problem with it is that is has a) built in speakers and b) a headphone jack - both things which i definately do not need.

Basically i dont want to pay for two additions that i dont need, so anyone know if theres a model without these but same specs or a similar monitor for similar price etc? Thanks.

Samsung S24A350 for 170 quid. Some reverse ghosting but overall a solid monitor with good contrast.

Anything cheaper is going to be utter shit.

Any opinions on the AW2310 by the way? Noticed that they were used by MLG and are rocking 120hz and 3ms, and figured I'd mine for thoughts before I did a coinflip betwen the S23A700D and U2312HM, lol.

Stand is nice but nowhere near as good as the new 120hz screens like the S23A700D or BenQ XL2420t after calibration.

@Womwomwom (or anyone knowledgeable, I guess)

What's your opinion on the ASUS VG238HE? Anandtech's review rated it pretty well, but I realize it's an older CCFL-backlit monitor, which I know doesn't matter too much, but maybe the panel is a bit too old and bound to be replaced with something newer/better? I know the SA23700D is like $300 now but there's no way I'm buying that thing when it has zero ergonomic features.
The answers to most of your Tech Support questions are in the OP. That's why you're not getting a reply. It's been answered before. Read the OP.

From a monitor standpoint, and looking at how all of the nifty features from the BenQ 120hz monitors are locked into awful, unchangeable presets, its probably nothing special.

Do you mean the Asus VG236H? Ignoring the 3D, because I don't know anything about 3D Vision, its pretty good if you leave it in the Standard preset. Other presets are not good which is pretty much par for the course.

Motion performance isn't perfect like the newer Samsungs but it has the "Trace Free" feature that all Asus monitors seem to be packing these days. This means you can control the overdrive enough so it becomes "good enough" so to speak. Typically Trace Free of 40 give the best results for their TN and IPS monitors.

Its a pretty decent monitor with the same pitfalls all TN monitors seem to have without calibration (banding issues, piss poor vertical viewing angles, etc). Some of the older CCFL-based 120hz monitors, like the Acer, were pretty bad but this one can still stand on its own two feet with good latency, no overdrive overshooting, good contrast, and decent enough blacks.
