Doubling PPI is nice, i'd prefer something affordable like ~1440p 22" though (which also has hope of going above 60hz)

Also with all the user-accessible hardware LUT and whatever else, it would of course have latency like some of the more expensive professional offerings (like it is of course).

EDIT: im really looking to spend around ~~$130 but if the expensive ones (like that dell) is worth that price, I dont mind spending a bit more for that monitor, but im more leaning towards that last choice

Dell 4k
28" for $1,000 (8 bit) - consumer oriented
24" for $1,400 (10 bit) - professional oriented.

The 28" looks like it might be super sweet. and basically make all 30" 2560x1600 monitors entirely pointless.

For what? What kind of usage? Which games? How sensitive are you to ghosting / motion blur / reverse ghosting issues? Latency?

Preferences or needs on antiglare coating? Do you mind heavy coating with some sparkle effects? (so glossy or matte preferred?) If you can't control the lighting in the room and have light sources behind the monitor, glossy is probably a bad idea.

How much is having a height-adjustable stand worth to you? Is portrait mode a plus?

How much do you notice TN color shifting? (for example, web pages that are a solid color looking a different color at the top than the bottom) How dark is the room you're going to be using? Some monitors have a relatively high minimum brightness that might be too bright in dark rooms without killing contrast by turning that down too to compensate.

edit: but regardless, you probably want this ($150 - $10 promo code ending today and - $20 rebate), unless you were previously picking monitors without knowing what you were really looking for:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236335

Asus VN248H-P. Unlike the U2312HM and H236HLbid (I think), it's a newer AH-IPS panel. It's matte but not with heavy antiglare like the U2312HM. Unlike the H236HLbid and VX238H, you have the option to buy a stand later if you want, as it's VESA mountable. I don't particularly trust Acer on overdrive settings, so the VN248H-P probably has an advantage in motion performance as well. This model has the adjustable Trace Free setting, like all but their cheapest monitors.

every game that appeals to me. (meaning not stuck to one genre) so fps, rts, moba, rpg, etc etc
as less ghosting / motion blue/ reverse ghosting as possible. (wont kill me if its moderate but definitly not high)

high adjustable is more of a bonus to me not something I would die for. (maybe willing to pay ~~$10 more)
dont care for portrait mode

IPS panel over TN (i hate TN)
also, i like brightness. (i use max brightness as long as it doesnt change the coloring)

for matte and glossy, i dont think i mind either. (i think my laptop is glossy since i can see my reflection and lights when my screen is off. but cant see any reflection when my screen is on)

Get the VN248H-P then.

I think the only 23.8" AH-IPS panel is the one in this:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_p2414h.htm

note: factory calibration, backlighting, etc., may be different, and that could be a relatively good sample with respect to other things. But motion performance should be similar with Asus Trace Free 40 (or 60).

okay, ty.

quick question, that monitor doesnt have DVI but it has HDMi, so i will be using that to conect to my gpu

since that monitor also as speakers, and since im using HDMI, that means i get audio right? (meaning i dont have to buy speakers)

ty for all the help btw.

Yeah, you get audio with HDMI. At least with the correct drivers.

So you can get some really bad sound out of the included speakers if you really want. I'd be loathe to use them for anything but system sounds out of concern for audio quality in general on these kinds of sets, but if that's not a priority, then sure.

yeah, i wont be doing any professional work with my build, just gaming and school crap and watch some movies, so crappy audio doesnt bother me as long as the sounds and dialogue are distinguishable.

of course though, if i find some $20 speaker, i will pick them up, (i hear cheap $10-$20 speakers are better than monitor built in speakers)

Not strictly speaking a monitor query, but how do modern high-end TVs perform as computer monitors?

I haven't actually gotten it yet to try out but recently I got a Samsung 3D-enabled TV LED full HD 40 inch TV. I don't much care for the 3D aspect, but figured the higher refresh rate etc would come in handy. Don't have the model number to hand, but I'm pretty au fait with the specs if that would help with my query.

I don't really have the time to play games as much as I'd like, basically I'm building a cabinet and hooking all sorts of things through it to the TV inputs so me and my GF have a sort of vaguely neat living room arrangement.

Anything you guys could advise me on?

The higher refresh rate is only for 3D (60 Hz per eye... less generally, I think, for most sources). Those don't accept more than 60 Hz non-3D input, unlike 120 / 144 Hz computer monitors.

I don't know what Hz is advertised, but if it's doing more, it's through interpolation. I guess you could say that would come in handy if that looks better to you.

Some people like using TVs as computer monitors, while others don't like the size, blurriness of text or whatever UI elements, size, pixel pitch, ergonomics, whatever. Also note that most TVs have a fair deal of latency from all the processing, especially if they're doing things like interpolating across multiple frames. Some of the fastest TVs (well, maybe aside from a couple models) are still slower than most of the slower professional monitors. I'm not sure about whatever Samsung has these days. You might need to check yourself. It may or may not have a game mode with more bearable latency.

Well, it would be a rare event for me to try to get SC played through it. Just getting our new place kitted out, so it'll make a nice centrepiece regardless.

I'm under the impression that there is a 'game mode' for sure, ideally you could manually bypass certain aspects of the processing but I won't know until I get it home and unboxed.

Haven't had a new TV in something like 8 years so it was time for an upgrade of some kind! Cheers for the prompt reply

Hi Myrmidon and to everyone as well,

While we are still onto 24inch ips monitors, I've been stuck between a few monitors taking gaming primarily into consideration.

The below is the requirements:

- 24 inch monitor
- 1200p(preferred) or 1080p
- Adjustable height, tilt and pivot
- IPS panel (perhaps AH-IPS)
- 60hz is fine, no need for interpolation
- Low response time and input lag
- Good color representation

From the above mentioned, I've narrowed down to:

- Dell UltraSharp U2412M (E-IPS, overall good reviews)
- LG 24EB23PY (AH-IPS, cant find any reviews on this new model)

If I do consider 23 inch monitors, it opens up for a range of candidates but I do not want to go further down in size then rather go with 27 inch 1440 monitors like ViewSonic VP2770.

Can anyone please enlighten me other information and/or recommendation to monitors with the above requirements?

If you're willing to spend up, there's the HP Z24i. Also plenty of others if you go to the professional screens that probably cost too much.

Most non-professional screens should have pretty low latency, but the response time is difficult to know without a review. Some are slow, and others have too much reverse ghosting.

U2412M is known to be fine, so that may be a safe pick.

Another option would be using a VESA mount on a monitor that fits all the criteria but the stand adjustments. Some VESA mounts aren't expensive. There's the Asus VS24AH (VS24AH-P), for example.

I´m very pleased with the Benq BL2411PT that I got a couple months ago.

Compared to the Dell U2412 it has a non-flickering backlight, lighter anti-glare coating, plus I believe the colours are better calibrated from the factory.

I will try find a read on HP Z24i, thank you. If I can find any review on it, and it satify my requirements, I am definitely willing to pay the price, whichi is 438,85 USD in Denmark.

I am also willing to go with the idea of using a VESA mount if there are monitors that satisfy my requirements. I will read up on VS24AH.

Thanks!

What is your subjective perspective on the response time, in regard to ghosting/blurriness, for instance when or if you play any fast paced games? How about scrolling on a website with white background. Do you notice any trailing? Do you notice any bleeding during heavy usage? What monitor did you have before?

I am still up for suggestions, so far I am considering:

- HP Z24i (438,85 USD)
- Asus PB248Q (419,13 USD)
- Asus VS24AH /with VESA mount (341,21 USD)
- BenQ BL2411PT (389,12 USD)
- LG 24EB23PY (317,98 USD)

I just got a Viewsonic VA2212m (LED) for dualdisplay, my older monitor is Viewsonic VX2270wm (LCD). After I plug in the newer one, I realize that I've been using my older monitor in relatively darker/warmer colors. I think I did this setting as my eyes were getting tired after long hours of reading on screen (doing a phd, a lot of pdf reading). Now, the new monitor's white is actually WHITE when using the 'native' setting in its color menu, and it's impossible to get the older monitor display that much white.

I was wondering if there's actually any evidence that using softer colors reduces eye strain? I'm tempted to not use the new monitor with extremely bright colors it came with, and switch from its 'native' color setting to 'sRBG' setting. Thanks for any help in advance!

You might want to try just reducing brightness significantly first and adjusting to that, especially if room is dark
