Hey Guys,
So I just picked up this 40" Samsung LCD HDTV Today.
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-video/tv/lcd/LN40D550K1FXZC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail
Everything is working fine with it but I wanted to ask if anyone knew the best way to hook up my headphones with it? On the back I have HDMI ports and a digital audio out port but there is no headphone jack.
So for example if i switch my screen over from my PC to my TV when I'm watching GSL or something and I don't want to disturb others if it's too loud, I would ideally want to hook up my Headphones for my PC to my TV to listen in.
I have the Steel Series Siberia headsets which comes with the standard regular headphone jacks one for mic and one for sound. Whats the best/cheapest solution.. Do i need to get some kind of tuner or adapter that I plug into the digital audio out port on the back of my tv and then plug in my headset into that? Or is there an easier solution?
Thanks so much.
Edit 1: Oh that's weird? Here is another link from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN40D550-40-Inch-1080p-Black/dp/B004N866S0
The model is LN40D550. It definitley doesn't have the regular headphone jacks, just a digital audio input hdmi and component/network stuff.

Your link is broken, are you sure you checked all the ins n outs

No idea whether this will work properly, because its a TV and not a receiver, but: You need to hook the optical audio into an optical in to RCA out converter. They're like $20 from Monoprice and eBay. Then hook a RCA male to 3.5mm female converter cable to it.
You should have an electronics store that let's you return products you are not satisfied with. In Australia, we have Jaycar and Dicksmith; you should definitely have a store that has similar policies in Canada.
The real solution would be to buy an AV receiver. The benefit of this is that you can hook up some decent speakers to it while you are at it.
Edit: did some clarification of connectors required.

It says there's an "audio out (mini jack)" in addition to the digital audio, so this is presumably analog and probably 3.5mm TRS (as opposed to RCA; either is no big deal since adapters are cheap).
Have you tried plugging into that? It may or may not be buffered to handle headphones. If it's a pure line out that's not designed to drive headphones, you could get a $25 headphone amplifier like a FiiO E6. You plug the TV into the amplifier and the headphones into the amp. Such an amp has its own volume control; that particular one can run on battery, but it can work while charging as well (and it charges through USB, and could probably charge off of one of the USB ports on the TV). Other such cheap amps may clip audio sources that have a relatively high level, but this one can take up to about 2V which is about all you will see on consumer gear.
I'm not aware of a device that takes in digital audio (optical or coax), does D/A conversion, and has a powered output for headphones, for under that price. The device Womwomwom linked doesn't have a powered headphone output.
note: don't put the headphones on your head when trying out the audio output, since if it's at line level, it may be really loud (and distorted if not designed to drive headphones)
edit: Samsung's page is wrong then, so no analog audio out? You still need something with a volume control and characteristics to drive headphones though, so it'd be like the TV ---digital optical audio out---> D/A box ---RCA to 3.5mm cable---> headphone amplifier ---headphones cable---> headphones.
That's if you don't want a receiver. Often you can pick up old ones for cheap, but they probably wouldn't have optical ins.

So the best solution for me is to get a receiver and then plug my headset into that?

Maybe the more reasonable or typical solution would be to get a receiver with optical input, and that probably makes more sense if you plan to hook up (external) speakers as well.
The cheaper route would be the dedicated cheap optical D/A -> cheap headphone amplifier. If you buy a receiver, you're getting speaker amplifiers and some other things you may or may not want or need.

Ahh thanks so much for your help guys, I actually took your advice Myrmidon and looked again and there was another random port called just "audio out" I pluged my iphone earbuds in there just to test it and it worked, I just had to turn off the regular tv speakers from the menu cause both sounds were coming from earbuds and regular tv speakers and now its perfect
Thanks for your help guys guess I was just not looking as hard as I thought lol..

Maybe I'm missing something, but can you not just plug your headphones in to your TV and listen to GSL straight off the computer while you send your output to your TV? HDMI out of your graphics card should only transmit the video, no? I guess you got it anyways, but I'm kind of curious now.

hdmi transmits both audio and video

wtf, my HMDI only transmits video o.o. I think HMDI transits audio for xboxs and such, but I just thought the GPU processed video through it.
