Hi Guys,

I do a lot of typing everyday, so I started searching for a (finger friendly) && (fast typing friendly) keyboard some time.
The best I can do is to search on Google, so I thought that a community as big as this would be the best place to ask.

I play a lot (Starcraft II only), program a lot, write a lot (mastering in C.Sciente, have to write a lot of stuff), etc... so, for for the next years, I'll be doing A LOT of typing.

What would the best keyboard for the task be in your opinion?

You guys have no idea how much your suggestions will be apreciated, since I could not find anything that seems to be the best for the job so far.

Thank you! <3
What are you tinkering about?

"Mechanical" keyboards are a joy to type on. They probably won't improve your WPM or APM, but they feel much, much nicer than cheap keyboards. Some of them are louder and more clicky than cheap keyboards too, if you like that (I do). There's tons of discussion on types and brands of mechanical keyboard here:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=260143

Or you can drink from the fire hose at these keyboard enthusiast sites:

http://www.geekhack.org
http://www.deskthority.net

Geekhack is currently experiencing supposed malware problems. My understanding is that the issue is resolved, but Google hasn't cleared the site from its warning index yet. You might want to wait a few days until the air is cleared over there before diving in.

Good luck!

Hashbaz propably told everything you need. Mechanical keyboards are the best , i am playing computer games and really abusing computer [4h/day to even 12h/day] from about 8 years , and I bough my 6gv2 [steelseries] keyboard 1 year ago , and I never ever start to think like "was it worth the price" or something like that. Really mechanical keyboards are very good , you just need to review what are Cherry MX Blue/Black/White/Clear/Brown switches. I reccommend black as i have 6gv2 and its great. Good luck : )
IdrA , teach me how...

I have similar typing needs as you, sc2, programming, essays etc. I got a daskeyboard ultimate silent, which has cherry mx brown switches. It is expensive, but way worth it.

If you're primarily worried about typing, then Blues (I Have the Razer Blackwidow and they have been great) are probably the best imo. They're not as tiresome to type on compared to the Blacks/Browns that I feel are more designed towards gaming. Not saying that Blues aren't good for gaming, I think they're just great for typing and good for gaming. But it really is up to you in the end. Try them all out and see what you like.

a mechanical keyboard with brown switches possible choices include:
leopold brown (from ellitekeyboards)
filco majestouch brown (from amazon or keyboardco.uk)
das pro with browns (from daskeyboard)
there are other brands but i suggest filco=leopold?das
meaning filco and leopold are same and dunno anything about das.

I have a filco majestouch and it's amazing pretty much.

Btw, I thought blue switches were considered the best for typing, whilst brown switches were better for gaming? (reason being 'apparently' blue switches aren't very good for doubletapping a key, although I've only ever used the blue ones so can't compare to others)

to be honest.. based on what you said about going to be typing alot, you are really better off buying a generic rubber dome keyboard because you will probably be wearing our your keyboard so fast. wont be worth it to buy an expensive mechanical keyboard and have it start having signs of wear and tear after just a couple of months

Definately Any good MX Blue keyboard if you dont mind the little noise, if you do then clears would be my recommendation (i use them and love them), those are rarer so you might have to go with Browns in that case. Ive only heard good things about topre too but as others have said they are pretty expensive

Id say go for a mechanical keyboard with blues or browns. Blacks are great for gaming but for general mass typing it can get tiring. As for specific keyboard, there's quite a few choices, I would recommend either a das, zowie, or filco. The black widow is a fine a keyboard but it has its share of problems also if your using it for work wouldnt you want something more professional looking? Rosewill has mechanical keyboards too which are basically rebadged filcos.

It's the opposite actually, mechanical keyboards are good for a lifetime even with heavy abuse. You'll save a lot more using a mechanical keyboard for 20years than buying a new rubber dome every year.

A mechanical keyboard will last you the longest, and probably in general feel the best to type on.

I recommend either a DAS or Steel Series, but maybe do some research on switches and see what you like.

Mechanical keyboards last much much longer. True there will be signs of wear and tear, such as keycaps fading and what not depending on what type you buy. But no change in function. They feel awesome, and when you pick one up you can immediately tell the difference in its heft and feel of quality. Mechanical keyboards are actual pieces of equipment, not some plastic POS.

You could also get an IBM Model M used on ebay and those are supposed to be money for typing. Blues are similar, and I like them for typing on because of the response. But I like my browns because they are softer.

Hit the nail on the head, if you are going to be typing a lot for long periods of time, I would suggest you getting one of these. Yes they do cost a lot of money but they are the best for professional typists.
