My other keyboard doesn't have this problem. It's so frustrating.
It seems like a fairly common problem when I google search it, but no one gives any real solutions.

Your keyboard is physically broken You are accidentally hitting Ctrl+S Your OS has Ctrl bound to be Ctrl+S Your SC2 has "toggle sound" bound to Ctrl

this isn't just in sc2, it's outside of it. it mutes the master volume.

Well, uh, I'm not gonna try to duplicate that. Something like that can really screw a keyboard over and in a similar way as you describe, though somehow I don't think so. But can you just remap the key in the meantime? If it is remappable I guess that would solve the problem. EDIT: Eh fuck it lets do it *pours liquid* WEFLJEKLFJLFL....

If that's what's happening, you may be able to disable it. Paste the following text into a .reg file and then execute it. You'll probably need to give it admin permissions, and it'll overwrite any keyboard remappings already present, so create a restore point if you're concerned. REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,23,e0,00,00,00,00

* Edit: Hmm....if another keyboard doesn't mute when ctrl is used, the changing the above registry key wouldn't work, right? Unless each keyboard has its own set of settings...? As you said, there are multiple results on the net (and not so many solutions), but it mostly seems related to the keyboard (from what I read). Ie. last post in this. If you feel up to it, open it up and clean it.

Unless each keyboard has its own set of settings...? That's not how it works. The premise is that the keyboard is generating this E0 23 scancode, probably due to drink-related damage, in addition or instead of the usual 14 for left control. It should have no effect on a non-defective keyboard unless it's an old multimedia keyboard with a mute button, in which case that will no longer work. Standard driverless keyboards follow an ancient standard where they generate streams of 8-bit values to indicate when a key state changes. For example 14 means the left control has been pressed, while F0 14 means that the left control has been released.
