Hi guys.
I'm looking into buying a mechanical keyboard and I've had my eyes on the 6gv2 but I would like to hear some opinions. Things to consider:
- I've never had a mechanical keyboard before, so if i buy a decent or a great keyboard won't make a difference to me, I'm gonna think it's the bee's knees regardless - I don't want to spend too much money (my maximum limit is somewhere around $110) - The noice is semi-important to me (I have my own room but my sister sleeps one meter away from my keyboard with a wall between us and I stay up later than she does, to put things into perspective) - I use my keyboard a lot more for gaming than typing (SC2) - I don't need macro keys or special features
Is 6gv2 the way to go for me or is there a better keyboard in my price range that meets most of my criterias? The one thing I'm worrying about regarding the 6gv2 is the lack of wrist support, can someone that owns a 6gv2 tell me if you got used to it?
Thank you so much!

Massive thanks for jpak for helping me import it! The plan is to remove the browns and swap the brown stems out for clears, or the "ergo clears" mod. I'll be picking up the keyboard itself this Saturday, so I can give more info on the stock feel and features when I get it.
This is a hawt board. It's funny how some people are excited over the g710+. Tbh, I would personally purchase a filco at that price point.
1) I had a blackwidow, and I disliked the macro keys. The g710 has these macro keys as well. 2) I like a keyboard that has a clean and uniform look . The orange just turns me off. 3) The dampeners jack the price up of this keyboard. I bought o-rings from my local construction store for 1.60 CAD (100 pieces) . Wasd charges 14 dollars for o-rings... 4) it's a priced a little bit more than what I think it should be. This looks like a 115- 130 board, not a 150 dollar board. 119 sounds like a really good price point for this board.
That's just my opinion.

If you like 6gv2 or black switch particularly , they are kinda good in the department of quality :D
If not, filco or leopold or rosewill might fit your style more (for non-macro keys feature)

If you know what i mean. Small gaps between. I don't like it. Other than that i think it looked pretty good. Except for that volume scroll and some other stuff (they should have ignored the macro keys). But i would imagine it feels pretty good using since Logitech usually makes quality stuff. Seems weird you need 2 USB ports for it though? Not at all the 2nd usb is a usb passthough it's just an extension cord basically to extend one usb port if you want all the way to the back of the keyboard. You don't have to plug it in if you don't want to.

I have o-rings on my blue switch keyboard and I can tell you it doesn't do much as the sound comes from the clicky side. I'm still digging my browns with o-rings though. They're pretty quiet for me and have not had a problem so far with any of my roommates when using them. Where is the best place to get o-rings fitted on keyboards? Is there a retailer that sells mech keyboards with o-rings already on them? also, do o-rings change anything besides the sound? Logitech G710+ already has o-rings and is brown.

Or a ducky they are cheaper then a filco in teykeys and tenkeyless versions of all key switches

I just started to venture into mech boards recently. I'll give you my advise.
If you don't mind not having the numpad on your keyboard, I would recommend getting a CM Storm QFR with Red switches instead of the SS 6gv2, better build quality and less problems (as nearly everyone would say) and they are about the same price. You can get the SS 6gv2 with Red switches too.
I've tried both switches (red and black) and while it's true that the blacks requires more pressure on the keys to bottom out, its not like you really needed to bottom out anyway, they key are registered with just a little pressure on it. It can be a little hard on your hand at 1st, but you will get used to it. If you can get the red switches instead of the black, go for it, I just like them more than the blacks because they feel less stiff.
I'm using my CM Storm QFR mostly for gaming and I have to say that I love it compared to my old Razer Lycosa. It doesn't have any macro keys, have some multimedia keys (while using the FN key + F5 to F12) and a windows key lock (FN key +F9). As for the noise, it sure is a little bit more noisy than a normal rubberdome keyboard but its not really loud either.
About the lack of wrist support, as someone who nearly always used keyboard with one, I didn't have any problems whatsoever without one. In fact, I think I like it more without one. But IMO, that isn't really a big deal even if you don't like not having one. You can buy one at an electronic store afterward if you feel the need. They doesn't cost much.
Hope this will help!

Hi all! Since yesterday i have a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid Red!
And i must say its a very awesome Keyboard!!! The reds are feeling really nice! It has a good size and the build quality is very good! My Steelseries 6gv2 can go now on vacation =) because the reds are the best for me! Even better then the blues(have a Black Widow also here...)

Save 130 and just buy a sizzor switch from logitech, last you 10 years unless you're a dolt and eat and drink over your keyboard, which then any keyboard is lucky to last you 3 years if you live dirty and never clean it up.

Really it's hardly over priced when you see what it competes with,
Razer's BW ult stealth is MSRP of 140, still lacks proper media keys but has o-rings Corsair's K90 is MSRP of 130, all macro keys aren't mech and it doesn't have o-rings but has proper media keys CM's Trigger, MSRP is 120 lacks proper media keys and no o-rings
People talk about what you can get it at but they aren't comparing MSRP's it's easy to tell that given 1 2 months the stores will stop listing it at MSRP, just like they did for G35 and just about everything else that is labeled gaming. IE I easily see this in 3 months going for 115-130.
It seems priced in the area to which it competes with a bit on the higher end but it's not unheard of. And unlike those keyboards you probably wont have to pay shipping to get it because logitech has deals with store fronts and can get a product easily to computer/gaming places.
People complain about logitech being late gotta understand history, gigabyte went too early on this just look at their GK-K8000 like 4 years back it flopped so hard.

Totally agree about the Logitech.
With the o-rings you bought, were they the same softness as the WASD ones? Because the o-rings I found locally were far harder and barely better than hitting the plastic top of the switch.

If you can live without a numpad get a CM quickfire rapid. Its cheaper, better and comes with a variety of switches. If you need to to be quiet get anything but blue and add o-rings if necessary.
I adapted to having no wrist support, try it out. If in the end you need it then go buy something to sit in front of the keyboard. Its not worth getting a 7g just for the wrist rest.

Hey guys, I am currently thinking about buying a 6gv2. It'd be my first mechanical keyboard and I already used it some time ago because I borrowed it from a friend for a week and it definitely felt WAY better than the board I am using atm, but I really want the one with MX- Reds for making the keys easier to activate. Sadly no one is selling it with Reds in Germany and Steelseries only has them in its NA shop. (Why do companies always prefer NA anyway?!) Moving on to my questions:
Does anyone have a keyboard with reds and one with blacks to compare them specifically for SC2?
And could I- if I decide to buy a 6gv2 black- just buy a cherry keyboard with Red Switches and put these into my Steelseries? I don't know if you can, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea imo.
Thank y'all in advance!

You can buy only the switches too, but i think replacing them requires you to solder them off and on, the #2 key on my 7G sometimes registers poorly, and I'd like to replace it either with a new one or take one from rarely used keys on the numpad. I haven't really searched into it though.

Well i'm pretty sure you could, but at the amount of time effort and money that comes with those kind of modifications i'm pretty sure you would be better off by just buying a keyboard with red switches at a higher pricepoint.

The thing is that I haven't used a keyboard with reds yet and I do not know if I'd enjoy them or not. Whatever, I think I' just gonna buy the Black 6gv2 since I didn't really have any problems with it and buy another one with Red switches once I have the money or really want to try it out.
My current keyboard is kinda broken, that's why I "have" to get one now. The keys don't respond and/ or jam. I already cleaned it, but it didn't seem to work..
Thanks for your help!

Yup, they are the same as the 50a's displayed on the wasdkeyboard website. I have them on my QFR reds. It's pretty quiet with the o rings and they dont feel too hard either.

Jeez what stores do you guys have that actually sell o-rings? The best I can find is just only Razer keyboards, but only because its so damn mainstream LOL. You make me feel like a chump for paying $20 for my O-Rings (with shipping).
