Oh if its -20 degrees or +40 degrees in your room... the true "difference" for your pc should be like +5/+10 degrees differents. So it wont harm... Temperatures work with deltas. If you have an air cooling system that runs your CPU 40c delta over room temperature at load, then that means if your room is -20c, it'll run at ~20c and if your room is 40c, it'd run at 80c On May 09 2014 11:31 drew-chan wrote: So with the recent release of Z97 and stuff, is it confirmed that broadwell will not be compatible with Z87 boards? Yes, some of the Haswell Refresh cpu's might or will work with z87 (think i heard something about this, forgot though), but the Haswell-based replacements for the 4670k/4770k will only work with z97 - and all broadwell CPU's are z97 only, AFAIK

The problem is your processor, not your memory. Even the 4670k, which is significantly better than a Phenom II X4, will struggle in certain late game scenarios.

This is true. However, my old computer was a Phenom X4 - my new computer is the 4670k. Performance is much improved on the i5, except when I'm using on chip GPU. Your experience with the AMD Phenom about matches what mine was.

Well, considering that the 4670K is perhaps the best processor in the world to run SC2, it's safe to assume the game is the problem? :p

So I nudged my computer and it powered off then on and then wouldn't start windows without blue screening during windows startup. I had this happen once before so I knew how to fix it, my question is what may be happening that would cause my hard drive to switch randomly from AHCI to IDE in Bios during the unexpected power down?

The battery to keep settings might be dead for example. You never notice because PCs nowadays always draw a little power unless you use the switch on the back of the PSU or pull the cable. You could try that (pull cable) and see if the settings get lost. If that happens and you want a new battery, it is around $1.

(Pretty sure I saw a message that said something to that [BIOS forgot all its saved settings and started from defaults] effect.) Not too sure on the battery you are referring to (where it would be located/how it would be replaced)? What to Google or a link that would lead me in the right direction would be appreciated. It's not a big deal as its come up 2x in 1+ year and now I know the fix, but it has sparked my curiosity and would like to know more. I found this, is it more or less what you were talking about? http://www.wikihow.com/Replace-the-Battery-in-Your-PC

You find the battery on amazon.com by searching for "motherboard battery". You can also first take it out and read what's stamped onto it. Its real name is not "motherboard battery" but instead something involving numbers about its voltage and whatnot. If you search for its real name, you'll probably find it cheaper.

The way an OS actually starts loading basically is by the BIOS (UEFI) looking for a boot loader, which can be located at a specific place on a drive. On modern motherboards, I imagine it checks for a boot loader sequentially based on the order you've specified for your drives in BIOS (UEFI). Since most people only have a single OS, the order doesn't matter. I presume Windows has something in its boot loader (or at least the initial post-boot loader stages) that enables it to "know" of multiple OS installations for the purpose of dual booting.
