About the QOS, is it supposed to work? I have it on, but my network seems to be unable to handle the traffic from HD streaming, gaming, internet, downloads, etc.
Updating the firmware shouldn't do anything for you if it has happened on multiple routers sadly. I'm not familiar with the fancy GUI they have for your router so I'm not really sure what you did with the clients thing earlier either.
I wouldn't worry about QoS until you can get the internet running perfectly either, although it is probably a pipe issue. QoS doesn't increase your bandwidth, it just prioritizes certain traffic to take precedence over others.

Yea, you are right. I'll have to test it more tomorrow to see if the firmware update did anything (but you are probably right saying that it won't change anything)
The weird thing though is that in the router, every computer is assigned a different IP address so I don't know if that is still what we think is the problem

Because they SHOULD all have separate IP addresses. Whether you go static or dynamic doesn't really matter.

What should i be looking to do when my CPU fan fails when booting my PC? It's happened twice in a row out of nowhere. I have an i5, if i need to get a bit more detailed i guess i'll make a seperate thread? A quick google search tells me i should replace the fan, is that the only/right solution?
|
If it does not spin then yes you should replace the fan.
|
Edit: Perhaps not appropriate for the simple- Q&A Thread.

Ok, thanks.

What do you mean by fail? You probably aren't undervolting if you're asking for advice...but figured it's worth asking just in case haha.
If you're on the retail heatsink (what came with the chip itself), then yeah that needs replacing. A great excuse to get a better cooler though :p

It happens before windows boots. I just get a "CPU fan fail" message and i gotta press F1 to finish starting up windows. I ran realtemp and it was 95C for a little bit with having virtually no load but eventually the fan turned on by itself and it was normal.
Yeah retail heatsink.

You might want to check inside the BIOS and set the board's automatic fan control to be more aggressive about cooling. It might just be the board reducing voltage to control the fan speed, and with the fan getting older it won't turn on anymore at the lowest voltage the board wants to put it on.
If that's true, you could look into how to lube a fan. A drop of oil might make it work like new. If that sounds annoying, a new stock cooler is actually only $3... (but there's shipping costs).

A lot of fans come with free shipping, tbh.

Since todays implementation of a patch i am unable to see anything in any of my chat-channels ingame in sc2.
"You are not connected to chat" is the message given in the chatbox and i have been looking through my settings like crazy, tried disabling autojoin and log in and out, reapairing and what not but still this is the message i get. Is there anyone out there who has had the same issue or that is currently encountering them after today's patch?

Can someone please explain what does the 'reduce mouse lag' option do?

Just a quick update on my situation : It's been 3-4 days since I've updated the firmware of my router. So far, I did not experience the problem... which is weird. Hopefully, it's gone!
I guess I can move on another set of questions 1- How do I program QOS to make it work? Or is it too much work? 2- My parents are noobs when it comes to computer. They can do the basics : power on the computer, and double click some icons... I've found them some Chinese series ; is there a way to make a playlist that will always remember on what episode they are at, and that will start from where they left (say they stop halfway in an episode, it will start from there).

Why don't you just get them a TVPad?

Previously it used to be you'd download the .exe which you used to install the game (which you could then save). Is there a way to preserve my download without forcing a new download after I format? Just copy paste your Starcraft II folder.
Hmm, really? I wouldn't have issues with new Windows registry?

Yes, really. The game does nothing to your registry afaik. Most games these days are just copy paste.
