It's such a pain in the ass to install the coolmaster on my shitty mobo so I was wondering if I should go ahead and try and do it again and change the heatsink and stock fan once again and try to fix it or does anyone else have better ideas?
BTW the idle cpu temp is like 35c and at a 40% load it goes up to 55C and I haven't tested it yet at high loads (anyone know any good programs to do this) all monitored with RealTemp The stock fan will be fine as long as you don't overclock it. However you do have a k suffix processor so I assume you'd like to OC at some point in time. The second you attempt that you'll need the aftermarket heatsink. The 3750 isn't the coolest processor Intel has ever put out.
Well I ruined my previous PC by having an unnecessary water cooler so I doubt I'll be doing any overclocking soon. I'm downloading prime95 and going to test at max loads(if I can figure it out)

I am a very ignorant man.
That being said does anyone have any good material to read up on OCing for future reference?

I have an old sony vaio that needs a graphics driver i cant seem to find.
It used one from 2012 prior to a reinstall, but following it i cant get any of them to work apart from an old shitty one from 2009 that only uses openGL settings and doesnt let me configure much of anything.
I know i can use one of these 2012 drivers because i had it on this exact laptop before hand working perfectly (with better performance) but every one i download now just tells me its not the right laptop.
Is it something i need to do to get these drivers to install (like wiping old drivers first?) or am i just missing this elusive driver i once had?
Someone help me find a 2012 intel graphics driver for a Sony Vaio that will work? Mobile intel 4 series chipset. Model Number - VGN-NS30E

So I am running Battlefield 3 at max settings and it is running pretty smooth. My main question is that my CPU (i5 3570k) and GPU (GTX660) are running at 78-75C and I was wondering if that was healthy.
|
Are you saying both CPU and GPU are at ~75C?
If so thats totally fine for the GPU, but you probably want to get the CPU down a bit. Did you end up overclocking?
|
That's actually totally normal for the CPU with the Intel stock cooler and the case getting a little hot inside from the graphics card running at 100 % while gaming.

Wow, ok. I guess Intel know what they are doing.

So should I change it or let it run since it is normal? And no I haven't overclocked yet... Trying to get my puny brain to understand the mechanics.

What cooling do you have on the CPU? If it's not a stock cooler, something is probably off. I mean, it's safe, but 75c on CPU during a game? That's what you would expect if you pushed your cooler to it's limits in stress tests, because no game stresses CPU nearly as much as some stress tests (even if the cores read at 100% load)
At stock settings, temperatures should be really low compared to overclocked ones with good or even decent cooling

I think you can expect a 30 C drop in temperature with a strong air cooler, a temperature in the 40-50 C range instead of 70-80 C.
An aftermarket cooler with one 120 mm fan for $25 will do this, I'm pretty sure. The safe choice for that is "hyper 212+" or "hyper 212 evo" from CM. You can then also do some overclocking and get back to these higher temperatures as Intel apparently seems to think it's safe.
The top air coolers are much pricier, towards $80, but not at all that much stronger as the price would suggest. One that's pretty close to top performance for about $50 is the "HR-02 Macho" on amazon.com. That one is the usual safe suggestion if you don't want to hunt for a good deal on the $80 coolers.

See I bought the Hyper212 evo from CM but I had some problems since everytime I put it on my pc would turn on for 2 secs and then turn off. The installation was a pain in the ass for the motherboard I had and after trying it like 6 times I just gave up and put the stock cooler. If you have any suggestions for a cooler that might be easy to install on my MOBO msi g41 z77 then I'd gladly buy it and try that again

The alternative is a worse performing, heavier, more expensive closed-loop cooler, but if you can't work out how to mount the 212+ I honestly would not buy any other cooling whatsoever. And you've had issues with water/closed loop in the past too.

I have a different cooler, but I actually took out my motherboard to install the cooler and didn't do it inside the case. I also needed 45 minutes or something.
I think I've read in reviews that the CM cooler's mounting system is comparably easy to install. I usually look for a Youtube video if I'm confused. There's a Youtube video for everything, especially tasks involving computers.
+ Show Spoiler +My cooler is from Thermalright. I liked their mounting kit. There was nothing that could go wrong with pressure on the CPU socket or things like that. It has more parts to fiddle with than other mounting kits I think, so I felt it was a bit annoying installing the back-plate and mounting bracket.
You say you have a MSI Z77A G41. You should stay with your CM cooler. It's exactly the kind of performance that works well with the G41. You shouldn't overclock much with your board, perhaps try 4.2 GHz or something. Because of that, it would be a waste to buy anything larger.

It's not yet clear what's best to do in regards to the next generation. It will start at a little higher price than the current generation. The performance increase at the same speed is not at all impressive it seems, so it's cancelled out by the higher price. It will make sense to buy if it can be overclocked a good bit more, but no one knows anything definite about its behavior in that regard.
In the US, there's shops that started selling the 3570k very cheap, but there's nothing similar to be seen on geizhals.de.
The new generation will maybe enable some kind of serious overclocking without choosing the top unlocked CPU. This will probably not be interesting at first as the cheap i3 CPUs will come out in a few months, not now. You'd probably still want a comparably pricey motherboard for those experiments, so you can only save money on the CPU price.

I will give it another try then with the CM cooler... I actually returned the CM Evo but I can get it again, but I was wondering what is the main difference between the CM 212 EVO and CM 212 +? is it that significant of a difference?

A few degrees, they are functionally identical for practical purposes. Thermal paste and case fans can make 5x as much difference

Have you ever tried the paste that comes with CM? Is it any good or should I buy a new one? Also I have two small case fans probably like 40mm, I haven't really measured them but is there any way they should be arranged and facing? I have one on the top so that it works as an exhaust and one on the bottom(side) that takes in air.
