If somehow compatibility is broken on that model (it was on some boards with PCIe 1.x I think), a BIOS update from Gigabyte's site would fix that.

For a while now, including years before the motherboard and graphics card were released, they all used PCI Express x16 slots. Or if you just don't care about a little boost in performance build it now anyways.

Most gains will be had in the area of energy efficiency most likely (it's more of a focus point these days). Intel doesn't reduce prices of previous generation chips when they release a new generation, so don't expect big discounts (individual retailers may still want to clear out stock of the previous generation, so a little bit of money might be saved).

Why is my GFlops so low? i'm getting almost double on my other 3570k rig. i set it to x40 (standard base clock 100MHZ), auto offset voltage on the asrock UEFI (i'm getting around 1.270V when running intel burn test) temps are 70C when running standard, 20 runs. i5-3570k asrock pro4 xigmatek gaia

Edit: I googled and some people have reported that this happens because of overheating. I'll try cleaning out my computer a bit later and seeing if this helps. Any other suggestions?

The problem is, sometimes when I'm in the game (and by sometimes I mean almost every game), either my monitor turns off and I have to restart the computer or the game freezes. What causes this and what can I do to fix it? thanks. Edit: I googled and some people have reported that this happens because of overheating. I'll try cleaning out my computer a bit later and seeing if this helps. Any other suggestions? Is only the monitor turning black (-> does the sound still work while it is off)? If the game freezes do you get an infinite sound loop? Windows also protocolls every screw up in the "event viewer". There you might be able to find more information regarding which hardware part or software is causing the problem.

Anyway, one sign of a failing monitor is that it will turn off; however, this would happen unbeknownst to your PC and would not cause a lockup. I haven't heard of overheating causing spontaneous black screening (it should just power off your system). Maybe in the case of a GPU overheating? See if you can monitor the GPU and CPU temperatures during load. TDP for both are usually 100C or so, but really under an SC2 load with low-end coolers I don't think you should be exceeding 70C (if that). Also, run the various hardware tests like Memtest (tests RAM), IntelBurnTest & Prime95 (stresses CPU to test temps/stability), Furmark (stresses GPU to test temps/stability).
