Am i wrong to be freaking out a little over this?' Ok more than just a little, maybe a lot. I cant test for an extended period of time because cooling (the reason i never even thought to push it in the first place) but i can throw 10x standard or a couple of very high stress with IBT, i could probably run prime95 for 5-10 minutes - i realize very much that this says very little for stability but 4.6ghz, 1.2vcore seems out of this world - i didnt fail yet, i might even be able to take it lower, this is such an exciting toy to play with

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5763/undervolting-and-overclocking-on-ivy-bridge They got 4.7 GHz @ 1.2V under those conditions. Sometimes you get lucky? I haven't really checked all the OCs people are getting, so maybe my perspective is off.

I cant test properly because my cooling is insufficient - its really frustrating - but short-term, i cant seem to make the CPU fail easily at all. I passed 30 runs IBT @1.17v, 4522.5mhz (45x100.5) which just seems insane. That was in three blocks of 10, and i struggle to do more for temperature reasons (stability will fail with any spike past the low 90's regardless of voltage required for frequency) but this seems really, really good. Almost too good to be true, i cant wait to get a big chunk of metal attached to this thing to begin real testing. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Temps go into the 90's if i do a set of 10 runs - with a minute or two break between sets, i was able to to 100+ runs at standard and 5-10 at very high (4gbRAM) at this frequency and vcore without running into a single fail - il consider it the best stability testing i can get until i sort out the temps issue

HT off? I see four graphs on task manager. Which chunk of metal are you going to attach? Last I checked UK, you could get Thermalright True Spirit 140 for pretty cheap.

Pretty much insta-fail or crash if any core reached 95c, couldnt test properly. I got a fail at 4.6@1.2v and i also got a fail at 4.5@1.14 but both of them passed dozens of runs - im going to say its a good chip and not speculate about how good until i can set up a better testing enviroment because i think both of those fails could have been to heat (4.5ghz@1.15v passes 20 runs - 1.25v does not) How does that fare compared to the 212 evo etc? Case is a little constrained and cant get a lot of fans in there (can probably just run the system with one side of the case off because its pretty bad) id like pretty good performance but have doubts about throwing an NH-D14 in there and i hate lower/mid end closed loop water coolers - they also tend to be a lot more expensive too. It looks a lot more meaty than the 212 evo, weighs more etc, i doubt it would present a problem for fitting in the case at least relative to other coolers (its no nh-d14 with three fans mounted) but im seeing conflicting performance reviews from quick googling Current cooling is one of these little things + Show Spoiler + ![]() Am i right in saying that it probably performs really awfully compared to anything half decent with heatsink, heatpipes, not-a-100mm-fan?

I'm doing a lot of video editing, my ssd is the disk cache at 22GB, and I'm wondering what value is the write on my ssd at the end of the day. Check the SSD manufacturer's website for a utility / toolbox. If they don't have one, use any number of programs that can read drive SMART values. If only host writes (logical writes as seen from OS's perspective) is shown, then the actual flash programmed may not be precisely known. Depending on the drive, current usage, and workload, write amplification may be realistically anything from a fraction of host writes to several or maybe ten times the host writes. I forget what's typical. Write amplification is ratio of flash writes to host writes. edit: the idea, of course, being to check the total writes one day and then again the next. I don't think they log and track per day.

Not a single mention of the meaning of acceleration value number on Razer or any other mouse site. -.- "For simple software, when the mouse starts to move, the software will count the number of "counts" or "mickeys" received from the mouse and will move the cursor across the screen by that number of pixels (or multiplied by a rate factor, typically less than 1). The cursor will move slowly on the screen, having a good precision. When the movement of the mouse passes the value set for "threshold", the software will start to move the cursor more quickly, with a greater rate factor. Usually, the user can set the value of the second rate factor by changing the "acceleration" setting."

We dont really know if they are going to be big. Could be 20%, could be less than 10 AFAIK. It makes overclocking performance an important variable - Ivy Bridge runs hot and also often starts to see sharp diminishing returns at ~4.5-4.7ghz - you can delid it to improve thermals by literally as much as 20-30 degrees celcius under overclocked load purely because intel fucked up with TIM and the heat spreader (i dont know exact details) so we have reason to believe haswell might perform vastly better than unmodded ivy bridge - it could also, potentially, reach higher frequencies easier. It will have more performance at the same clock, but it's not really known how much. If you are just a stock user, you likely would not notice the difference

He doesn't do anything other than game with it, but does have plenty of disposable income to throw at it. Should I be telling him to wait for Haswell or is the performance jump from Ivy Bridge (in terms of gaming performance) not that big? Depends on what he has now. If he's got a perfectly serviceable desktop and doesn't really have a strong reason to upgrade, then he could wait. If he doesn't have a desktop at all, it would seem pretty ridiculous (to me) to go months without a serviceable computer just so you can have one that's a little bit better farther down the road.

Misterfred, he's still running a Q6600, he's upgraded RAM and GPU since originally building it. But it's beginning to show its age ![]()

I cannot login at the moment. After I fill in my password the form disappears but nothing pops up. (See image below) Does anyone have similar problems at the moment or knows how to fix that? Additional info: Yesterday it worked just fine. http://imgur.com/pimHYIJ + Show Spoiler + ![]() If press Esc from there, the form appears again, but if I then click on "Login" nothing happens. I cannot enter my password because the EditField will not show.
