(To MODS: Can you move this to tech support forum? I feel that will give much clearer answers.... or I can make a new thread and copy/paste this there and close this one or leave it for blogging purposes + thread on tech... your choice but please let me know if you can... Thanks! ^_^)

Dear TL,

Last time, I had a minor annoying crisis in regards to screen resolution of my desktop being weird, but I was fixed that problem a day after. However, now, I am suffering under a MAJOR CRISIS that calls for a dire situation that can potentially damage a large portion of my personal life. So please, I request of assistance to fellow members and community of TeamLiquid.

Premises:

Just two days ago, my laptop was fine. I was recently using my laptop intensively for macro purposes of my programs and games until suddenly, it just turned off all by itself! I touched the laptop and it was hot so I figured it force shutdown by overheat, though that does not happen that often due to the use of 2 separate fans, one below the laptop known as the "laptop cooler" and one on the side known as a "mini tower fan" which is a regular fan but faced toward the hard drive. As well as a natural air from windows outside in the mildly spring weather of New York City.

So I turned back on the laptop (which it did) after 5 minutes and restarted my program. After a minute or so, it automatically turn off again but this time, IT WOULDN'T TURN BACK ON. The power button does not work and I do not see any charging signal or anything. I know the AC adapter and the power adapter is fine as the power still lit but since then, I CAN NEVER EVER TURN IT BACK ON!!!!

+ Show Spoiler [Optional Background Story] +
Background story:

I do not know if this means my laptop is dead. My laptop was first brought to me custom-made by my bro-in-law cousin to use for my freshman year of my university back in 2006. I got the laptop around late 05 / early 06 (can't remember, too long ago), and I traveled many places high and wide with my laptop. All the way to my new life to college in DC, to Korea for 7 months while teaching English, to back to USA again at home during my new profound dream and life goal and purpose. After all this 5 years my lappy and I have gone through, I am sadden that this has happened. It is the first time this ever happened to me and my laptop and after a long bond of relationship, I JUST CAN'T LET IT GO!!! T_T

+ Show Spoiler [Obligatory Laptop Specs] +
Obligatory Laptop Specs:

ASUS Laptop
Windows 7 32-bit
Intel Duo Core Celeron
Intel HD Graphics
100 GB Hard Drive
2 GB Ram

...

Not sure what else..

Situation:

Now, I do not know if this clearly means my laptop died and if it is possible to bring it BACK TO LIFE. I have so much important files and personal files I have kept in my laptop hard drive as well as my personal travel buddy wherever it went. I know I can just go buy a new laptop or something but that cost mucho money, something a poor college student like me do not have at this moment (partially due to a friend jacking my car, crashing it, and now he owes me 750 dollars which still hasn't paid me back for 4 months now).

So if there is ANY SOLUTION or any possible help you can provide, PLEASE PLEASE, HELP THIS POOR SOUL or something that I can provide a CPR in order to bring my laptop back to life (or least a way to win the lottery so I get money and then buy the laptop).

Thank you..... *sniff sniff*

There is no blue screen? Well this seems more of a tech support question, so it will probably get moved.

Anyways is there a blue screen?
here are the options
1) Virus (probably not)
2) Battery
3) Idk I do not know much about computers

My best bet would be the battery though.

It wouldn't even turn on, no blue screen, no screen, nada. Just seems dead.... I can't hear a single heart beat into my laptop. No matter how much madly I press the power button, it doesn't do anything!!!!

Also, I think I made a mistake and posted in the blogs. This should be a tech support question in the thread though I think I did emphasize heavily on my personal feelings and relationship with the laptop that makes it blog-worthy..

Was it really unnaturally hot? Or just a bit overheated?

It wasn't hotter than any other time. It was a typical level overheating that just happens any other time ending up ok and able to be in that state and level for good # hours without any problems....

This is a hardware related problem.

I suggest bringing your laptop to some tech repair guy and see if he can fix it. If not, take apart your laptop and extract the hard drive. Doesn't sound like it's the hard drive that's causing the problem.

My guess is that your motherboard is dead.

Pretty sure it's your motherboard.

Edit: It's dead.

Your motherboard is what powers everything in your laptop. It's possible that one of the connections got cut off and needs to be soldered back together... that is if you can find the dead connection.

Anyways, if you can't fix it, take out the harddrive.

the mobo can't be fixed persay but it can be replaced possibly , the unfortunate part is that most of the time they just recommend buying a new one because it costs a ton of money for a 3rd party to open it up. Also on most laptops you can disconnect the HDD(hard drive) really easily and if you can then its just a matter of matching up the right connection type to get your information off of it.

Anyone going to mention the battery issue? Since there was a heating issue it might be that =O.

Try taking out the battery and attempting to boot on AC power only. However I don't think there's much hope. The problem with laptops is that you can't just replace one part

Wait wait.... if the motherboard is broken/dead.... does that mean it's hard to bump my laptop to life??

And what about the battery as I see some posts...

How can I tell if it's battery or motherboard?!?!?!? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

If the battery is dead, you can simply replace it.

All your data is stored on a harddrive, this can simply be removed and plugged into a desktop or another harddrive for data extraction.

If the motherboard is dead than the notebook is dead since the processor, graphics card, and other components are often soldered onto it.

If you're pressing the power button, and absolutely nothing happens, there is a possibility that your hard drive is not fried. You can take it out and put it in any friend's laptop, and try to boot off of it just to ensure the hard drive is fine. If the hard drive fails to load anything on a friend's laptop, then your problem is answered.

also for 20-30 bucks you can always buy an external case for the hdd and run it like an external hdd. so as long as the hdd is in one piece you're data should be fine and recoverable.
