Good news. I got my stream to work. But now the problem is, I get super bad framerate while playing SC2 (can't play 4v4's at all.. if 1v1's get into late game I start to run at like 5 fps.)

I'm using CamTwist on a Macbook Pro, 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR 3 Memory.

Oh, and i'm streaming on these settings with FMLE

Video
Format: H.264
Frame Rate: 30 fps
Input Size: 640x360
Bit Rate: 500 kbps
Output size: 640 x 360

Audio
Format: MP3
Channels: Stereo
Sample Rate: 44100 Hz
Bit Rate: 128 Kbps

Stream quality is fine, but SC2 is basically unplayable which.. defeats the purpose of the stream T_T

Suggestions? Help? Don't tell me to buy a new computer. Because I am. lol
Cool story bro.

I would head over to tech support, but just looking at it, I don't think your processor is fast enough.

Well that blows. What's a good processor speed for streaming?

What, if any, GPU does your i-pricegouge have?

Edit: This matters, because if you were running integrated, then the stream would be stealing CPU and RAM needed for the integrated graphics, causing severe framerate issues.

Thanks Nazgul.

First I had no idea what an i-pricegouge was. Then it hit me. Then again, it was a gift for college T_T

Not much Graphics card. You're probably borrowing system memory to run the game playable, and the stream software is slowing that down, along with having to share your already not amazing for the job CPU.

Just pushing the poor thing too hard. Cut it some slack, they had to cut out some hardware quality to fit that price markup in there.

Nice 9 month bump

Totally different thread issue, etc. Not really enough upload to do much, probably not worth even attempting, but if you are running at 1920x1080 try going to 960x540 in xsplit, 20fps, 64kbit audio and 250kbit video. Probably wont work too well but it is a baseline to start at.

"an i7" doesnt really tell us much about your CPU.

You can only manage a good 360p or poor 480p stream with 0.39Mb/s upload without excessive pings happening. Any i7 at stock can run 480p fine, first or second generation. Upgrading your processor will make no noticeable difference because your internet upload speed is way too slow, but if you upgrade your internet upload significantly, in order to make a very nice 720p or a good 1080p stream you may need to overclock your processor (if it's at stock) or buy a better one.

Cross that bridge when it comes. See what getting decent internet or dropping to 360/480p does for you. Keep in mind you want to use a maximum of ~0.3Mb/s up for your stream. (To clarify: with only 0.39Mb/s Upload)

EDIT: Also, according to this page, you can stream a "fair" quality 240p video at ~300Kb/s, which seems a little off to me. I would expect you could do a pretty decent 360p one with that, but it seems that 480p is out of the question.

I wish people would stop arbitrarily associating resolution with CPU's.

You can stream extremely high resolutions on a lot of CPU's, the only thing really holding you back hard with them is compression ratios. A 500kbit stream would look far far far worse on a phenom II x2 than it would on a 3930k after optimization, they would be uncomparable, and likewise a 3mbit stream on a weaker CPU or without optimization would look far worse than an overclocked 2600k, etc, but it is not flat out NECCESARY. The universe will not implode if you type in 1280x720 in xsplit with a CPU that doesnt have the i7 label on it.

On thread topic though, i wouldnt even attempt streaming sc2 with 0.4mbits up, ive got double that myself and after a ton of messing around with custom settings, optimizing, even playing sc2 on only 1 core with the variable tweak to run sound on the same thread as the rest of the game, im not really happy with my stream quality. Though it looks great when not much is going on, you can read text off teamliquid no problem, it chokes out a ton and becomes a blurry mess during heavy movement or action scenes. I dont think any CPU in the world can make an x264 live encode not become a blurry mess at those bitrates and a decent resolution.

1mbit up is a good minimum, go for 3-5 if you can. What CPU do you have right now?

Streaming on any decent quad (first gen i7's are decent, to me) will be able to to render well enough for a 360p stream to be of negligible difference to a stronger cpu afaik. I know where you are coming from, and correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the assumption that a very very high end cpu would only be required for higher quality presets whilst it is at a higher resolution, as there is a large difference in pixels to render between 360p and 720 or 1080p, from posts I have read on these forums. If I am incorrect, and maximum useable quality preset on a 360p stream is similarly hugely dependant on your how uber your processor is as is the case at 720 or 1080, then please forgive me, as I am misinformed.

But as we both pointed out, his internet is the biggest problem. People can stream 360 acceptably on lower end phenom II's, so I thought an i7 would have it in the bag.

i said i have i7-2600k
so 3-5 is good hm? well ill phone my provider tomorrow and see what they say... i dont think my computer causes the lags, it has to be the internetconnection, so more upload should fix itx)

I assume it is 500 kb/s which is .5 mb/s and your speedtest is showing that .39 mb/s is reaching the test-site. Which is fine. Everything looks normal. Although that internet cannot be used for quality streaming of any kind. I assume it is DSL or something.

Im sure that is what his ISP told him in the spirit of marketing. In a time where everyone says something like "30 down 10 up" no one wants to hear ".5 up"
