I looked at the following guides to boost my FPS:
1. [Guide] Boosting your FPS. Easy steps. 2. comprehensive variables.txt thread
My computer specs are the following:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Intel Core i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27 GHz 4.0 GB RAM (3.86 GB usable) NVIDIA GeForce 310M
My variables.txt settings are:
+ Show Spoiler + alphadepthWrite=1 aolight=1 buildgridhint=1 creepnormalmap=1 creepQuality=3 creepreflection=0 creepselfshadow=1 creeptrans=0 deff=1 deffspec=1 depthDisp=1 displaymode=1 dof=1 dragscrollspeed=100 fog=0 fogvolume=0 foliagedensity=0.000000 foliagequality=0 frameratecap=60 frameratecapGlue=30 gamehdr8bit=0 gamma=1.124000 GraphicsOptionEffectsDetail=3 GraphicsOptionLightingQuality=3 GraphicsOptionModelQuality=2 GraphicsOptionMovies=3 GraphicsOptionOverallQualityVer7[5]=4 GraphicsOptionPhysicsQuality=3 GraphicsOptionPortraits=1 GraphicsOptionPostProcessing=3 GraphicsOptionReflections=0 GraphicsOptionShaderDetail=3 GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=3 GraphicsOptionTerrainQuality=3 GraphicsOptionTextureQuality[2]=3 halo=1 hdr=1 hdr8bit=0 height=720 keyboardscrollspeed=100 LastChallengeId=TerranCombat lastDeviceId=2677 lightingLevel=0 lightmap=0 lightmapcastshadows=0 localao=1 localeidassets=enUS localeiddata=enUS localight=1 localShadows=0 lowqualitymodels=0 lowQualityMovies=0 mastervolume=0.458937 menubarclickable=1 mousescrollspeed=100 mousesensitivity=0.643836 MoviesSeen=1 music=1 MusicContinuous=1 MusicHeard=1 musicvolume=0.458537 normalmap=1 parallax=0 parallaxshadow=0 particlelod=1 particleobjects=0.250000 particleterrain=0.250000 physicsdensity=10 pixellight=1 portraits3d=0 portraitsOff=1 preBlendedCreep=1 profanityfilter=0 reducemouselagenabled=1 refreshrate=60 reverb=1 ribbonlod=1 sampleFOW=0 shadowmapsize=128 shadows=0 showmissiontime=1 simplifiedCloaking=0 simplifiedShaders=0 soft=0 softshadows=0 softshadowTaps=6 sound=1 soundambiencevolume=1.000000 SoundAutoDetectCPUCoreCount=4 soundchannels=64 soundeffectsvolume=1.000000 soundglobal=0 soundoutput=Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) SoundQuality=2 sounduivolume=1.000000 spec=1 splatlod=1 subtitles=1 targettexeldensity=10.600000 TerrainTextureHiResCacheSize=24 TerrainTextureLowResCacheSize=24 TerrainTextureSize=256 texQualityLevel=3 texSpace[2]=500 textureBasedFOW=0 transparentshadows=0 treadlod=1 unitcolorstyle=2 useLowqualitymodels=0 voiceagc=0 voicechat=0 voicechatfademusic=0.301587 voicechatfadesound=0.301587 voicechatinputgain=1.000000 voicechatmode=0 voicechatoutputgain=1.000000 voicechatprovider=FMod voicechatsensitivity=0.494737 voicechatsoftwaremute=0 vsync=0 watercaustics=0 waterflipbook=0 waterreflection=0 waterrendertargetformat=3 waterrendertargetsize=128 watershadow=0 width=1280 windowheight=665 windowstate=1 windowwidth=945 windowx=1 windowy=5 winkeydisabled=1
Here are some in-game screenshots with FPS counter:
+ Show Spoiler +
And here are my NVIDIA Control Panel settings:
+ Show Spoiler +
Ambient Occlusion: Off Anisotropic filtering: Application-controlled Antialiasing - Gamma correction: Off Antialiasing - Mode: Application-controlled Antialiasing - Setting: Application-controlled CUDA - GPUs: All Extension limit: Off Maximum pre-rendered frames: 0 Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Single display performance mode Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization: On Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Clamp Texture filtering - Quality - High performance Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization: On Threaded optimization: Off Triple buffering: Off Vertical sync: Force off
So, I think I get around 40+ FPS in idle locations on some maps, 30 FPS if I am at my base, 14~16 FPS in huge battles, and 24~26 FPS on medium battles. And these FPS vary on different maps. I really would like some expert help on what I can change in my NVIDIA Control Panel or in variables.txt to boost my FPS more. Thanks for any help.
NOTE: I still want to retain the high quality slimy and glossy look on zerg.
UPDATE: Hm, I guess high quality (or medium) settings really work well for me instead of ultra, and those qualities really don't look that different. I don't need help now. :D

First for your screenshots use the "Direct" link on imageshack when you click the share button.
Second for your variables.txt if performance is your only concern I would change the following:
GraphicsOptionEffectsDetail=0 GraphicsOptionLightingQuality=0 GraphicsOptionModelQuality=0 GraphicsOptionOverallQualityVer7[5]=0 GraphicsOptionPhysicsQuality=0 GraphicsOptionShaderDetail=0 GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=0 GraphicsOptionTerrainQuality=0 GraphicsOptionTextureQuality[2]=0 halo=0 hdr=0 texQualityLevel=0 softshadowTaps=0 pixellight=0 useLowqualitymodels=1
This should give the best performance but it's probably not going to look all that great.
Should look a little something like this:

If you also bumped the gamma up it would look a lot less dark than my screenshot.

I know this topic is Old one, but i need to ask. I have all my Graphic options on LOW+ others are OFF. Which of this settings should i include to my variabled to boost performance and dont change the others like sounds mouses etc. Best regards.

First off go ahead and make sure everything is on lowest settings possible / off as you said they are and press apply. You can stay on your current resoluton though.
Close SC2 and go to documents > SC2 > variables.txt
Change this to the value 1: GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=
You will notice shadows completely disappear. This should give you a significant FPS boost. If you want to retain the forcefield visibility of medium settings you can modifiy these lines to be 0:
simplifiedCloaking=1 simplifiedShaders=1
It will drop your FPS though.
You can also get a fps boost with reduced mouse lag unchecked, as well as playing in fullscreen instead of windowed fullscreen. Last would be to check if the options in something such as your nvidia control panel are set to performance settings.

GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=1 ? did u understand correctly ?
What about bitdepth=16 ?
"You can also get a fps boost with reduced mouse lag unchecked, as well as playing in fullscreen instead of windowed fullscreen. Last would be to check if the options in something such as your nvidia control panel are set to performance settings." - Everything is done already;)
Forcefields on low settings are fine for me already, but this additional modifies wont make forcefields worst?

yes GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=1. I did not read you wrong. Shadows will disappear completely. If FF are fine for you leave those last 2 lines as default.

I don't know dude. You can test it easily. Spawn same map go top left so you are looking at the same area and check the fps for different values...
|
GraphicsOptionShadowQuality=1 + 5-15 FPS during big medium/big battles . Bitdepth= nothing
Wont this couse some crashes for me?

Well a quick search of the forums shows that people have been suggesting bitdepth=16.
I went and changed my settings to that...and apart from making my menus look like ass it doesnt seem to change any graphics in-game and i had a negligible 195 fps vs 200fps on low settings top left on xel naga within first 5 seconds of the game.
So I don't think it does shit in-game.

In my variables i can't even find this bitDepth=16?..
Am i blind

It's not there by default. You have to type it in.

Anyone know what these 2 strings does?
