Hello,
I have a decent internet connection and it works very well when I use the ethernet cable, here is the speedtest:
Ethernet Download: 1,5mbps Upload: 260kbps Ping: 5ms
Wifi Download: 260kbps Upload: 149kbps Ping: 239ms
The WIFI box stands 4 feet from me, I'm the only one using this network, there is a WEP password on my WIFI. Is there any settings of my WIFI device that I could have fucked up ?

Wifi sucks, WEP sucks extremely badly. Ethernet is best always. Wire up your home with ethernet once and your set for life.
If you 'have' to use wifi consider changing your firmware to dd-wrt if your router has rubbish firmware/disconnect issues.
I had a netgear and now dlink router with wifi and they both always used to disconnect wifi devices connected to them after random times and a reset would be the only cure to reconnect the devices.
Since changing to the dd-wrt firmware its been rock solid, never had to reset my router ever again.

Some wifi routers allow you to increase the signal output. Standard it is on like 10 procent. This is to limit interference for neabures. But if you don't care about them just blow your signal up. + is this a modern router as in last 2 years ? And how well is yoru WIFI card in your computer ?

WEP imposes an bandwidth overhead, and it is easier to crack than WPA. Get rid of WEP.
|
1. Only certain routers (wireless linksys) can use DD-WRT 2. The information you are sending across WEP isnt important enough to get someone to bypass the 128 bit encryption. 3. WEP imposes no bandwidth overhead. 4. Most routers do not let you increase signal strength manually. (it can be done if the router has a extended range mode)
Are you sure your using the maximum wireless mode for your router (G or N?) and is there no electric interference at all? is your router near a power supply or outlet? Also, perhaps run a tracert to google and ping both ways. Perhaps some one else was on your wifi connection.

I will try various ideas in the thread and let you know the results asap

Are there othere Wifi networks in your vincinity? There could be some conflict.
|
Search for networks in your vicinity, and if you find any, make sure you use a different channel than they do, in order to limit interference.
Also electromagnetic disturbances screw up almost everything, so make sure there is no such source anywhere near your equipment.
|
sounds like an interfering channel issue, try switching the channels to the following :
1 - 6 - 11
see what works best for you
|
What CoFran said - what you're describing sounds like there's interference. Are there other wireless networks in the area? Or cordless phones, or anything like that? Switching channels should work well.
WEP has nothing to do with this (it's not going to cause stuff like you're describing), though WPA is better in nearly every way.
Also, have you tested for packet loss? (If there's significant packet loss, it's very likely to be interference.)
|
Could be interference but I get less speed on WIFI, which is expected. The router is too far away and I don't have a jack in my room, and I don't want to use a 100foot long cable lol.

Ya wifi sucks. USB wifi adapters are even worse than PCI wifi adapters.
