Thank you Cyro and Nimix, for the help. I haven't gotten it completely the way i want but it's close, I think ill just readjust to it now. Also just to clarify, Cyro are you recommending i put acceleration to 0?

Completely off/unchecked/etc in driver or whatever to make sure it's not on and "enhanced pointer precision" disabled in windows, yea.

Muscle memory is the most important thing for controlling cursor how you want to and that's formed by consistent action (sensitivity, posture etc) and lowering sensitivity. Acceleration makes muscle memory extremely difficult to form and easy to throw off (if your hand is moving the same distance slightly slower one day, your aim will be off and it won't be fixable)

sens stuff~ + Show Spoiler +
For sens, it's very difficult to argue against a mouse sens that takes 1 inch of movement to cross top to bottom of your screen, so that's 1080dpi (or 1000) on 1920x1080 but some people go up/down from that. This is all assuming you're running at 1:1 (so 1000 counts from your mouse means 1000 pixels moved) which should be the case, as long as windows is at 6/11 sensitivity setting (middle) and there is no positive/negative acceleration, games are set not to mess with your sensitivity etc

a good mouse player (@750dpi, 1080p)

hmm ok so I'm finally going to post in this thread

I currently have a mouse which is 1600 dpi which I got like €6 at a local supermarket. it's a nice enough mouse but the scrolling wheel is annoyingly bad (it just doesn't work, lul). the other qualm with the mouse that I have is that when clicking really small stuff (like the page 1 or page 2 links on TL), i have to slow down and really concentrate to click it. so i'm guessing i need higher dpi than 1600, since using windows to artificially increase cursor speed makes me lose precision? when playing sc2, it's fine for clicking scvs since those are big enough to click instantly for example, but anything smaller becomes a tad annoying. is it possible that I'm just not used to such a sensitive mouse though? i used an 800 dpi mouse for years. i think i need more than 1600 dpi.

actually the mouse is a blue tick http://www.ngs.eu/en/technology/mice/blue-tick/386/6/

it says 800/1600 dpi, so i'm guessing they just use a 800 dpi sensor and multiply input by 2 to get 1600 dpi? so the sensor isn't truly 1600 dpi?

so i'm kind of on the market for a new mouse. i'm looking for something with the following features, if possible:

- €15 is max budget. anything over that just isn't worth it imo, the mouse i currently have is €6
- more than 1600 dpi please? 2400-2500 maybe? or true 1600 dpi? i'm looking to be able to scroll from one edge of a 1080p to the next without lifting my hand. at 1600 dpi on my current mouse, this is possible. would be nice to do this at 1440p as well, and obviously i'd like a nicely precise cursor
- a comfortable mouse wheel (or just one that works, lul)
- something ultra reliable. ultra, ultra reliable.

Are you using higher than 6/11 in windows (or higher than 51-54% in sc2) to multiply further than 1600dpi? Do you have enhanced pointer precision disabled?

Those are obvious signs of using -too much- DPI, not too little

I'm 7/11 in windows, 67% in starcraft and I don't have enhanced pointer precision. At 1600 dpi that is? Should I be using slightly lower settings?

You're using 2400 in sc2 if that's still on the 7/11 step, 3200 if it's not.

if you care about mouse accuracy at all there's basically no reason to use over 1000 for that resolution as far as i see it

It's also pretty arbitrary what you consider to be lifting or moving the hand, i've seen multiple people using >5k dpi 1:1 asking for higher because they were "moving their hand too much"

On your right hand, you have a roundish bone on the bottom right of your hand when it's facing downwards (e.g. when using a mouse). I like to rest my hand on the edge of the table with that round bone not on the table. I like it when I can move the cursor from the middle of the screen to the left or right edge of the monitor by moving the mouse 1 cm.

Going from 7/11 to 6/11 seems to improve accuracy a bit, I guess and I can still not move the mouse too much to click things. So that's relatively OK.

I'm not sure not sure what gets me high cursor speed without sacrificing accuracy at low speeds too much.

Nothing will, you will always be less accurate from using an excessively high sens or less fast from an excessively low sens

the trick is finding one as low as possible that doesn't limit you speed-wise i think. But i spend like 5-10 hours a week training cursor accuracy since a year and a half ago so i don't like to make compromises there because of weird ideas of what was comfortable (it all becomes comfortable with a little usage, in my experience)

Your hand must be flying around the mouse-pad, I guess. All that Osu! huh.

I guess I'll just work on getting used to the mouse then, if that's all that needs to be done.

750dpi is like 6cm to cross entire screen~ in FPS games i and many others use 60cm for a 360 turn so it's no big deal if it means the best control in RTS/MMO etc

+ Show Spoiler +
i also have an irrational fear of high sensitivity after using 3200dpi for way too long ;p

I can cross my 1080p screen without lifting my hand at 800 dpi too, around 1K should do the trick for you, and you'll gain in precision once you get used to it. Also, maybe you should try buying a more expensive mouse or at least try one, you might like the difference in sensor quality. My limited experience with cheap mice was pretty terrible, incredible inconsistency and pixel skipping everywhere :<

Haha Cyro, what happened with the 3200 dpi? wrist issues?

@Nimix, yeh I think it's a matter of getting used to it. however, as you say, I have never used a "quality" mouse before, just relied on my old IBM business something mouse (800 dpi) which was nice but I wanted to try something faster. I got this €6 which is actually quite nice, if only because it cost me next to nothing.

I've heard that good mice can be found for €15-20, so I'm considering looking for a decent €15 for myself and give €6 mouse I have right now to my younger siblings. That, or I can just get used to this mouse that I have right now that I'm relatively happy with. I'm just doing research, I guess.

I've owned a Razer Abyssus for 3 years now and I can safely say that it sucks. The mouse is very uncomfortable to hold, it makes the area around my backhand hurt because my thumb cannot tuck itself deep enough. This also negatively affects my play by making me play slower.

I want something like this http://i.imgur.com/AxjfxDg.jpg this is probably the most comfortable mouse I have ever used in my entire life, and it's also the mouse that got me to masters before I bought the Abyssus.

Thanks in advance.

Ended up getting the g9x off ebay as a LMO replacement. I was close to getting a mico, but I've wanted the g9x back when cool won the first gsl.

<edit>

Today I tried a logitech M100 because it was only $10 from walmart. The shape is perfect. A slightly bigger LMO, but the buttons are hard to press. I returned it.

So far the mice I have tried are:

Logitech G100s: Too big.
Logitech M100: Great size and dpi (1,000 dpi), but buttons too hard to press.
CM Storm: I love the sensor and buttons, but it's too wide.

^ To you I say try the Logitech G1. Can be bought for <$30 and is godly. It's on the smaller side (~115 mm in length) and the control is great. It runs at 1000dpi. If it matters to you, many progamers have vouched for and used this mouse throughout the years dating back to bw. It won't make you instantly gosu, but given what you have tried so far, this may be it.

  • What's your grip style? Claw with Logitech G502 (2014 trial), Fingertip with CM Storm Spawn (2011-2014)
  • What's your sensitivity? 2000 DPI, 2.6 raw input in TF2
  • What's your maximum budget? < $70
  • Do you want additional buttons? Optional, but would be nice. I am getting spoiled by the G502 after using the Spawn for so long.
  • What games do you play? MOBA games
  • Do you mind about prediction? Yes.
  • Other relevant information: Low LOD, right-handed ergonomics, ~100 g max, coating that won't fade or chip easily. Medium/small hands (17.5 cm)

I bought the G502 to test. Even without any weights, the mouse is just too heavy for me I think. At first, I thought the lack of a ring finger rest would be a deal breaker because I was so used to it on the CM Storm Spawn, but I'm getting accustomed to holding a mouse without it. However, I don't want to get an ambidextrous mouse. I need help deciding between the Mionix Naos 7000 and the Corsair M45. I was going to pick up the M65 at my local Best Buy but they were out of stock.

Logitech G502 (Playing League of Legends, Bioshock Infinite, Team Fortress 2, and CS:GO. 5 days testing)
    +Excellent build quality
    +Perfect button clicks all around
    +Textured side grips
    +Flawless sensor
+2 scroll wheel modes (free + click)
    +Side-to-side scroll wheel
    +Length and height are nice
+Looks pretty cool (Batmobile front? lol)

-A little skinny, no ring/pinky rest
-Too heavy even without weights (120g) <-- Main deal breaker
-Scroll wheel kinda wobbles in click mode

Mionix Naos 7000 (impressions from pics, videos, and reviews)
+Most comfortable, ergonomic, ring finger/pinky rests
+3310 sensor is next best option after the exclusive 3366
    +Lighter than G502 (103g or something)

    -Lackluster/simple look
    -Side buttons look shallow?
-Favors palm users? (I still claw grip my Logitech M570 though)

Corsair M45 (impressions from pics, videos, and reviews)
    +Wider than G502
    +Lightest of the 3 (96g)
    +Cheapest of the 3
    +3310 sensor
    +Claw/fingertip friendly
    +Sturdy looking scroll wheel

-Complaints about the side grips showing wear fast
    -Least LED customization
-Least programmable buttons (same as CM Storm Spawn's)
-No ring/pinky rest (not sure if deal breaker anymore)

Anyone with experience with these mice, mainly the M45 and Naos 7000, care to share your experiences with them and how you chose to pick one over the other? Thank you.

For the record, logitech released http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g402-hyperion-fury-fps-gaming-mouse this, which looks like a lighter G502. Not sure about the main differences, just figured I'd drop it there in case you really liked the G502 case.

G402 is not the 3366 pixart sensor it's the same sensor they used for the G100s but with better hardware and firmware to support it. So where the G100s is limited to flawless at 1000dpi and 500hz the G402 is flawless in steps of 400 under 2000dpi, so the G402 supports 0 smoothing flawless tracking at steps of 80dpi at 1000hz refresh rate. And 1ms of smoothing from 2000-4000dpi. The main reason to choose a G402 over a 3310 sensor mouse is the smoothing. 3310 mice have smoothing a bit more than other mice and this varies on how the firmware was set up. Not everyone would notice this though and so it's mostly a non-issue. Mostly an issue for those with 120hz or 144hz monitors though. It's a good mouse it be slightly better if it weight closer to 90g instead of it's 103g
