I'm assuming you use a wrist pivot and fingertip grip allows you to splay your fingers in and out to move the mouse forward/back). 4. What mouse pad do you plan to use? Thx for the reply! 1) The mouse I'm looking to buy is going to be strictly an RTS/SC2 mouse. I'm not really playing anything else at the moment and I'm going to keep my Deathadder as I actually like the mouse. I've only started using this claw/finger grip for rts. I use more of a palm grip for fps games which the deathadder is super comfortable. 2) My windows sensitivity is 6/11 as recomended and I think my inagme sensitivity is set to around 50? WIth regards to dpi... I started higher, and I've been slowly decreasing it as I find my control to be a little better with lower DPI. I'm currently playing around 1200 dpi. *note my monitor isn't 1920x1080. I play at 1600x900 so a lot of people would think that 1200 is even high at that resolution. 3) Yes exactly. That's what I find best for mouse control, however my deathadder isn't the best mouse for this type of grip. 4) I have a steelseries black cloth like mouse pad. I'm open to trying a different surface if there is going to be a benefit to doing so. I bought two mice today and I'll see which one I like better, and maybe it'll help someone make a recomendation for the perfect mouse for me :-). First impression of the sensei is that it's a bit long or tall or something. I tend to lift my palm off the butt of the mouse as I play, and it has a pretty large behind. I'm really liking the mouse feet on it though much better than what came on the abyssus. I think I want a lower profile mouse or just a smaller mouse in general as I have slightly below average hands. I played around with the Razer Abyssus at work today as well and I'm fairly certain that it'll be the best one out of the 3 that I have at the moment for RTS. Will play some games tonight with the Abyssus and post my thoughts. Should I be concerned with having two different mouse drivers installed on my computer at the same time?? I have razer synapse installed for my deathadder and I assume that it'll work with the abyssus. Anything I should know/do before installing the steelseries software/drivers?
1.) Sounds good. For RTS, I'd really recommend as low a sensitivity as possible because you'll really want precision while rapidly changing directions. It's slightly different from how you would typically move a mouse in FPS. Sensei is O.K., although generally not recommendable because it has negative mouse acceleration. The reason for this IIRC is because it uses a sensor that is capable of going to extremely high DPI, but consequently comes with some unwanted acceleration issues. The Razer Abyssus is often recommended in RTS games but be sure to test it thoroughly with whatever mouse pad you plan on using. There are numerous reports on the mouse where it just doesn't track well on a lot of surfaces.
2.) Make sure in-game sensitivity is set to 51% as that is what corresponds to 6/11, not 50%. You want the mouse sensitivity box checked. This will override windows sensitivity and isn't strictly needed, but it's good to keep them both consistent. Personally, I'd highly recommend you lower your sensitivity even further. I've made a post in another thread if you'd like to see where I'm coming from.
3.) I haven't personally used fingertip for Razer Abyssus but I've heard good things about it. On the other hand, I have used a SS Xai (similar body to Sensei, I believe) and it wasn't very well suited for fingertip grip at all. I've used the Zowie AM-GS and MiCo, and they both are far better for fingertip grip, despite having very different shapes from each other.
4.) That sounds like the SS QcK. It should be fine for your purposes unless you get pretty low on sensitivity (1920x1080 800 DPI). I was fine with my AM-GS at 1150 DPI, but that's just 1 example.
I'm not too sure on conflicting drivers as I don't have much experience with such a situation. You could actually configure the SS Xai without installing the drivers if you really wanted. I'd suggest that you install them and set the settings you want, then uninstall them. It may help to only have 1 mouse plugged in at a time as well (although it shouldn't matter).

So has anyone heard any info on the g100's? Wondering if I should wait for it to come out or just buy a Zowie Mico. Was considering the Sensei but reading in forums about it made me not want to go with that mouse.

So I have a bit of a dilemma...
I learned to play Starcraft 2 with a Razer Abyssus, which I really liked for a few reasons:
1. Its Shape. I have fairly small hands and the somewhat bulbous shape of the mouse made it really nice to rest my palm on (while using my pinky and thumb to hold mouse).
2. Mouse feet. I bought some extra ones from Razer, which made the mouse slightly taller as well as much smoother in terms of friction on mouspad (Steelseries 9hd).
3. Solid Scroll wheel. I really like the thicker scroll wheel and being able to clearly feel the mouse scroll up/down a notch.
Now recently I've been using TheCore (as posted here on TL) for my hotkeys and have gotten used to using mouse side buttons to cycle between subgroups. I've been using a Logitech mx518 since the Abyssus sadly does not have side buttons.
Has anyone who liked the Abyssus found a similarly featured mouse but with side buttons?
Edit: Sorry! I should have included this info before.
1. What's your grip style? Palm, holding with pinky
2. What's your sensitivity? a bit higher than a 9HD per ~180
3. What's your maximum budget? Recommend at your leisure.
4. Do you want additional buttons? Needs to have side buttons + good scroll wheel. I am neutral otherwise.
5. What games do you play? FPS and RTS, although this mouse will solely be for RTS.
6. Do you mind angle snapping? Yes.
7. Other relevant information
The mouse I use for FPS is a Logitech mx518

I started a thread on the battle.net forums. Feel free to post in order to let Blizzard know they should fix that bug.

I come today with sad news: after a glorious 7 years of service, my beloved Logitech Mini Optical is dying. I need something to replace it. So...on with it:
1. What's your grip style? Mostly fingertip, though sometimes I claw.
2. What's your sensitivity? I like 1 QCK mousepad per 360
3. What's your maximum budget? Whatever. I'd prefer not to spend more than about $60 but feel free to suggest anything, really.
4. Do you want additional buttons? I'm used to my simple 2 button/wheel mouse. I'd like to stick with that setup.
5. What games do you play? Mostly FPS, particularly CS:GO. Every now and then L4D. Often Minesweeper.
6. Do you mind angle snapping? Yes I do. Keep this away from me please.
7. Other relevant information Something light, ambidextrous, non-wireless. If you hadn't noticed I'm aiming for a LMO. I don't mind higher DPI. I'd rather not have to deal with drivers, but if a mouse otherwise meets what I want it's not an instant no.
8. Other irrelevant information I didn't have lunch today
Anyway, I'll be reading through the OP and eventually random pages in this thread some more.

I am in the market for a new gaming mouse (and gaming keyboard but I will most likely get the Logitech G710+) but I have some concerns and would like some advice.
1. I play a lot of Dota 2 and will probably delve more into ladder for HotS (not sure yet) and these are the 2 games that consume most of my gaming 2. I do like to play a ton of RPG and single player FPS games, things like Skyrim, Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Hitman, etc but no competitive FPS gaming for me (unless the MP of Mass Effect 3 counts ) 3. I currently use a Sensei Raw but my hands do sweat on long gaming sessions (I live in a really really humid place) so the mouse sticks and I can tell I'm wearing the coating on it down (happened to me with an Ikari Laser) and this is the main reason I want to change the mouse 4. Long time ago in a galaxy far away I owned an MX518 for many years and a G7 after that made the early days of AoE 2 and WC3 really really pleasant but they sadly died in the line of fire and were buried with honors. 5. I have owned since then a Logitech G500, Deathadder, DA Black Edition, Naos 5000, Ikari laser, G400, Sensei Raw but so far I only have the DA Black, G400, Sensei Raw and a Sensei D3 Edition 6. The DA seems a bit on the heavy side for playing RTS in my hands (I have medium/small hand size) and I really couldn't adjust to the size of it. The G400 seems like is "limp" from one of it's feet and that made it unusable to me, it also seems to be easily breakable so I just left it on the side. The Sensei Raw has been good but I have never used the buttons on the right side and the braided cable is too big and stiff, plus the wear issue I mentioned earlier
So with all this into consideration I would like to ask if you guys would choose a Logitech G100s or the G400s that are new on the market ? Mainly those 2 because of the hydrophobic coating but I can't decide on which one. I believe the G100s is based on the G1 that is highly praised for RTS gaming ? And the G400s is the successor of the G400 and MX518 but that may be a hit or miss with me because like I said my G400 seems limp when I move it. Still these are the 2 that caught my eye but after reading specs and previews I simply can't decide.
Thanks for any advice you guys might have.

I have actually been using the Razer Abyssus for a while as a replacement for the two optical mice i had been using over 10 years. The exact criteria was that it would be a mouse more suited to gaming and had the mini optical feel with smaller body dimensions; I also didn't want to ball out over $90 for a mouse when i've been perfectly comfortable on cheaper designs, i didn't like the whole buttons on the mouse thing.
The Abyssus was actually the same size the mouse i was most fond of. Overall, it took some adjusting because the grip and shape of the buttons have rough edges and are different compared to almost any other mouse out there. After about 2 years of SC2:WoL the right-mouse click stopped actuating and i had to get rid of it, so while i enjoyed using it for its life time i had to look for a replacement and ended up trying different kinds altogether.
The paint job of the Abyssus is not the best, you can end up scratching off the top coat of paint if you're not careful. It has a bit of a matte finish if I remember correctly so it does have some sort of friction to it normally. The buttons press down nicely and have a pretty pronounced edge to where your thumb would maybe rest. This may get in the way for many people who want to have a smooth and relaxed feel when browsing the internet or non-gaming with a palm-grip (personally, i use a mix between claw and palm grips and it's a bit adapted from forcing myself to use a small mouse over many years).
I imagine if you install the software you have the choice of setting it to a left-handed mouse also, but it is essentially a plug-and-play mouse and works perfectly fine as one. It is quite a fat mouse because of the spherical base but it fits the palm nicely because of this.
It's easy to feel the notches for the mouse-wheel like others have said, and the overall feel of the mouse is quite good for just about any game i've played. There are 3 DPI settings on the bottom of the mouse--450, 1800, and 3600. I personally use 1800 because my desktop resolution is higher than my in-game resolution. I've come from professional FPS but i really prefer higher sens. in RTS and particularly in StarCraft.
After having to replace the Abyssus i've come back to purchasing another one after a year or so. The mirror ed. for the Abyssus is a rehash of the same mouse but with a glossy coat of paint which is much better than the original version in my opinion--If you have used a steelseries kinzu V/2 it is very similar but quite a bit more solid of a paint-job.
I would probably purchase a few more for the future and just imagining myself using one in my later years seems quite bright; after-all, it is quite cheap as i picked up my mirror ed. for about $33 on sale.
The original Abyssus' razer logo (on the palm area) lights up very brightly as a plug-and-play. Without powering off your power supply it remains ON. It's very unlikely it's a defect or comes as part of the design, but with the mirror version it has always been off for me (the usb i'm using probably doesn't provide enough power) which i personally prefer because again, it was quite bright.
If i had to score the mouse i would simply give it a, "use until it's broken, then buy another one"...sorta' score. If i had to give an earnest and proper review i would still rate it up there as one of the very best 3-button mouses.
As i'm not a fan of extra buttons on gaming mice (I'm looking at the Razer Naga), i wouldn't ever be able to draw a comparison. My motto is pretty much.. if i'm not using the buttons or if i don't have a different config for hotkeys that i have in mind, there's no need for the extra clutter or options. I'm still using the default shortcuts for StarCraft 2 and find it quite easy to navigate across anything i need to.
glhf! and i completely recommend the Razer Abyssus to any budding RTS player looking for a simple, well-functioning mouse. You'll be quite surprised to see many of your progamers using it even! It's pretty popular amongst a lot of the current korean pros (i believe Ret uses it also) these days. --Just don't let the edges of the buttons get to you (there is also a 1/2cm gap where the button is raised from the base), you'll either get used to it and like it for different reasons, or be very annoyed with it and have to pass on the experience!
usability -- 5/5 from me aesthetic(s) -- 4/5 regular editon, 4.5/5 for the mirror edition

The LED for the Razer logo on the Abyssus, there's a plug you can pull if you open the mouse. This means you can disable it without destroying anything, and it is reversible.
|
Razer Abyssus is awesome, got it about two months ago. It's size is perfect for me, as well as being light and having a really good sensor. It's plain and simple. Would not recommend for FPS players because the lift distance is really high, so readjusting the mouse (which I tend to do a lot in fps games) gets very difficult.

I have several mice I'd like to give opinions on (I use a claw grip, slightly above average hand size, Razer Goliathus pad, Razer mouse bungee, low sensitivity, 3/11 Windows mouse speed, 1950xw/e monitor size). I play all types of genres, but mainly FPS and strategy:
1. Razer Imperator- Lots of sensor issues. The pickup height is low and after a number of clicks (three months of SC2 ladder/heavy FPS gaming), the mouse began double clicking EVERYTHING. If you hit a certain angle or move at certain speeds towards the bottom right corner, the cursor will spazz out and teleport to the bottom right immediately. This also happens in certain mouse lift situations. The upsides are none of the Synapse utility garbage, decent precision and average weight.
2. Razer Deathadder - Very smooth sensor. A lot of people consider it to be very accurate, but in the year I've owned it, I haven't experienced the same level. Often, my clicks would be just a few pixels off center and the mouse was too jittery for me to compensate properly (could just be me though). It's also incredibly freaking heavy, so my wrist would be quickly worn out by micro (so I compensated by using a higher DPI). Buttons are also pretty sensitive and I was prone to overclicking things. It also requires the Synapse utility to modify settings. The grip was also just too big enough so I couldn't use claw, but my hand wasn't large enough to use palm.
3. Steelseries Sensei - I love this mouse. It's very lightweight and reacts without delay to my input and adjustments. The level of tweaking it provides is fantastic. I currently have it set on 250mHz polling, Exactlift 7%, CPI at 1800 and the rest at 0%. All of my clicks are on center and I am able to use my usual grip style comfortably. Buttons provide a fair amount of resistance, which is rather comfortable for me. I also haven't run into any software bugs. However, the right side buttons get incredibly annoying when I play WoW, the sensor seems rather unsteady beyond 2500 CPI and the color modding and other "bonuses" feel unneeded or at least misvalued. Not a 90$ mouse, but worth buying at 60$-70$, should you ever run across it.

The Abyssus' clicks are actually very light compared to other mice. I would recommend the Zowie MiCO but I've heard it has stiff clicks.

Guys, are there mouses that last longer than 1 year? I really need a stable and good mouse with good quality Click mechanisms.
I now have the third mouse with the LMB Click Error.
2 Logitech G700's and one Zowie EC1. Each Mouse only lasted for about one year.
The LMB Error is the left button not registering the pressed state correctly. It loses contact here and there - cant draw a line in paintbrush, and you soemtimes double click.

My deathadder has lasted almost 3 years now, but I think that is luck of the draw.

Logitech G9 has been very durable for me. (sidenote: G9x is not as accurate as G9 from what I've heard)

The G400 has the same ergonomic shape as the MX518 but with a far better sensor. It looks like you're trying to go for "raw settings" (no acceleration at all) so it would be a huge jump in accuracy.
