Choppiness with Starcraft 2?

Air.SWP United States112 Posts September 11 2010 18:49 GMT #1 When I first built my rig, SC2 ran flawlessly as of this week I get a lot of choppiness in the game menu and especially in game. It can happen at any time during the game, even when I first starting mining. I have nothing running in the background, my settings are on ultra, but it does even happen in low settings. I'm running an ATI 5800 card on Windows 7. Please help me fix this problem.

micronesia United States24767 Posts September 11 2010 19:37 GMT #3 I used to have choppiness during the first few seconds of a game... I believe the problem was actually the hard drive. I installed to one of my other hard drives with a bigger cache (same rpm unfortunately) and it fixed the problem... may not be your problem though.

Urnhardt United States110 Posts September 11 2010 19:47 GMT #4 yeah if you're getting choppy even in menus, it might have something to do with your HD, a lot of fragmented files maybe. i've never had my game choppy in the menu at all since the beta. however the first game of the day i will tend to lag a bit when i spawn in a game, after that its all good though.

JisTx United States6 Posts September 11 2010 19:48 GMT #5 I've actually had this problem for awhile, and would affect me pretty badly since my game would be stuck for a good 3 seconds at the start of a match while the match is actually going on. After trying different things with the graphics, freeing up hard drive space, etc. I figured every time I clicked on my hatch at the start of the game, it would lock up for a short time, so maybe it was the sound. I tried to mess around with my sound settings, specifically the sound channels, and lowering it seemed to eliminate the problem effectively. I had the sound channels at 128, and put it down to 64 and now the beginning of the match plays smoothly, while having practically no noticeable affect (to me) sound wise too. I hope this helps!
