I post this here because I'm unable to use the official support forums, as I downloaded this online and it doesn't seem to have activated itself yet...
I'm trying to get into Starcraft II. Directly after I login, before I can get to character creation, I receive this:
"You need an authorized language pack from Blizzard entertainment to use this language."
I can't seem to find anyway around it. What can I do?
EDIT: I've just resolved this, turns out my computer thought it was August for some reason.

My computer doesn't think that and I still get the same error. Halp anyone?

I started getting the same error. I think it's something on blizzards end, that will hopefully be fixed soon

I have the EU version, and I'm trying to play on the LA server, but all I get is "you need an authorized language pack" message. What am I doing wrong?
|
I don't want to re-localize anything.. Will this still work withought messing anything else up?

same problem but inverse version.
im messed something for sure.. i hope i can fix it without reinstalling game.
|
Just a reminder: If you are trying to play on a region, you must have a StarCraft 2 License for that region. If you attempt to connect to a region that shares a logon server with a region for which you do have a license, you will receive the language pack error.
|
had this error. then realized that it was because i changed my windows date to a month ahead.. make sure your windows day and time are synced with desired server and it should work

hi, sorry to bump an old thread but I'm trying to play in korea from NA. I used the relocalizer and tried US as source and KO as target then did KO as source and KO as target and didn't work. I even changed and synced my time to seoul as others have mentioned.
is there anyone who is having trouble accessing korea using the relocalizer? do I need to install the korean client for it to work?
I have a taiwan account and it works with relocalizer and I have unlimited game time.
|
I have the exact same sitaution as emc. I just want KOrean text from my TW client..I did the whole relocalization process too so I dunno.

can you tell us how to download the Korean installer for Blizzard [SC2]? i log in to my account and there's no way there to download the Korean client. i have a Korea/Taiwan account btw :D

I get this when playing between EU and NA, my fix is to go into Documents/Starcraft II/variables.txt and change all enGB to enUS and same with Documents/StarCraft II/Accounts/<account number>/variables.txt.

"you need an authorized language pack from blizzard entertainment to use this language"
I downloaded sc2 from bnet because i lost my cd, and i had uninstalled sc2. So im living in mexico, and i decided to download the english version instead of the spanish one, but then that horrible message is stoping me from playing... wtf how do i fix this?
Is the only solution to just uninstall it again, and install the spanish version? Or can i do something else?
help, thnx

I have the same problem. I own an NA account and my variables says enUS so I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I tried the thingy with the variables. Didn't work.
I want to access my NA account and tried switching it to enUS but every time I open the SC2 client it goes back to enGB.

The problem with this solution is that it will most likely make the EU version not work instead. Right now my EU version works fine but NA doesn't.

Same.

Ok i found the way, you have to go to your Variables.txt and set the localeidassets=enGB localeiddata=enGB
to your local language, i'm from Europe playing on NA didn't work so instead of enUS like it is supposed to be, i put enGB wich is the europe english version, and i was able to log in, it has something to do with the clock i believe.

This worked for me too. Thanks.
I don't know why this happened to me because I live in the United States and always have been using NA server's client without any issues until today.

Another problem in this patch i dont know if its just me but i cant seem to click the find match button for 1v1. when i drag my mouse above it, it said that a member in my party does not have client to this content. HELP ME
|
Ok, I have US and EU - I changed the Variables file to sg and it worked fine. Then, when I ran the EU version the Variables file got changed (not by me) and it made the US version stop working again till I changed it.
It seems to work by changing it to ensg and then make your variables file read only so it can't be changed when SC starts up.
Very odd - but working now :D

That worked as i have an EU account as well was "enGB" Thanks!

@Dreamseller
That worked for me but when i launch the EU version it changes again to "enGB" and same issue, apparently they share the same folder in Docs

Thanks, this worked for me except I'm in NA so I changed enGB to enUS in the two places in the variables file and then was able to log in the next time I tried and didn't have the error.
|
For the people with multiple versions installed, ensure you change the version of variables in your documents folder NOT the actual game folders.
|
Alternatively you can just delete the StarCraft II folder under C:\User\My Documents\ if nothing else works for you. Make sure to save any replays before that though Also probably going to have to change some settings in SC II then, like scrolls speeds.
|
I just added another line of a couple of line:
localeidassets=enUS localeiddata=enUS
under my =enGB
So just copy those to lines and paste it under, then change to the other region you want to play in..
|
what do i do? i am in usa trying to get on to tw and it wont work!! plz someone help me :[
edit: tried to change the variables to ensg but it changes back to enUS by itself
|
Ridiculously inconvenient that I have to manually edit the variables.txt file everytime I switch from NA to TW. For some reason switching from TW to NA automatically resets it back to English.
|
On August 02 2012 14:49 Headsh0tBR wrote: edit: tried to change the variables to ensg but it changes back to enUS by itself
You have to edit Variables.txt while sc2 is NOT running
Ridiculously inconvenient that I have to manually edit the variables.txt file everytime I switch from NA to TW. you can make a version of Variables.txt for each region and use a .bat file that copy the good version and launch the game
(sorry english)
|
For anyone else that has this problem, I have the Korean client installed, changing the variables.txt didnt work for me so I re-named it variables.bak just in case, logged in and it worked. variables.txt now looks like, guess either will work. localeidassets=zhTW localeiddata=zhTW
Maybe this can be added to the first post to help others.
|
it worked tnx. mine was on "engb" changed to ensg and i can now log in to the NA. My EU version is still "engb" and is working just fine. i am from denmark(eu), if it have any use to solve next person.

This helped me, then after a couple of days I got the same problem when I tried to log into NA again. Did the same thing again and got it fixed. Just make sure to not have starcraft turned on while changing the variable and you should have no problems

Since variables.txt keeps all your settings, changing anything (like volume, hotkey profile) will be forgotten each time. I wrote a vb to edit the line, just make a bat to run it and the game shortcut each time (2 vbs, one for each language, two bats pointing to each).
VBS (I just have enUS AND enSG lines just in case I use individual US client instead of SEA which has both - edit the lines as needed).
+ Show Spoiler + Const ForReading = 1 Const ForWriting = 2
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("Variables.txt", ForReading)
strText = objFile.ReadAll objFile.Close strNewText = Replace(strText, "enUS", "zhTW") strNewText = Replace(strNewText, "enSG", "zhTW")
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("Variables.txt", ForWriting) objFile.WriteLine strNewText objFile.Close
BAT (point to shortcut for game shortcut (you wont launch through that one, you will run the game with this .bat). start command launches the .vbs (must be in same location as bat) to change language, so make sure it's named as in the .bat + Show Spoiler + @echo off start tw.vbs rundll32 shell32.dll,ShellExec_RunDLL "C:\Users\sc2supergamerpro_yesyou_\desktop\SC2 TW.url"
** I actually replaced this with a better target script which requires less manual editing. pm me for it.

Hi all I just can confirm about variables.txt
I have 2 2 accounts with 2 versions installed: European with enGB and American with enUS. just go to variables.txt and change enGB to enUS and mistake disappeared
Just sidenote: when i stared european version -> it changed variables.txt automatically. Hmm..

Here is exactly how you fix it, see below.
-----------------------------
If you experience an issue in StarCraft II where your interface language has changed, or if you are receiving an error that says “an authorized language pack is required” after the 1.5.0 patch, it is likely that your original language settings were overwritten during the patch process. We are aware of this issue and are working on a resolution at this time. Follow the workaround below to return your game client’s language settings to their original defaults.
Locate the Variables File First, you must locate the variables.txt file on your system. Follow the steps below for your operating system.
Windows Vista/7
Click Start. Click Documents and open the StarCraft II folder. Open variables.txt.
Windows XP
Click Start. Click My Documents and open the StarCraft II folder. Open variables.txt.
Mac OS X
Open Finder. Hold down the Option (Alt) key and select Library from the Go menu. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Blizzard/StarCraft II. Open variables.txt.
This file contains the configuration for your StarCraft II client’s language and several other settings.
Change the Language Setting In the variables.txt file, the following lines control your game client’s language:
localeidassets=enGB localeiddata=enGB
Changing the information following the equals sign will change the language setting in-game. Be sure to save the file after any changes are made. Available languages are listed on the table below. Note: Ensure that your language setting matches your game license’s language. If you have two game licenses on your Battle.net account, you will need to switch the language setting in this file each time you want to swap to a different license.
Regional Language
The Americas
American English - enUS Latin American Spanish - esMX Brazilian Portuguese - ptBR
Europe
German - deDE European English - enGB European Spanish - esES French - frFR Italian - itIT Polish - plPL Portuguese - ptPT Russian - ruRU
Korea
Korean - koKR
Taiwan
Traditional Chinese - zhTW
Southeast Asia & Australia/New Zealand
Southeast Asia English - enSG
--------------------------
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Chris C. Blizzard Entertainment

Hey guys, just registered to say that the variables.txt fix does work. Go into Documents/Starcraft II/variables.txt and change the language it appears, for example, for me I live in Portugal and had to change enUS to enGB. Save and it's done.
|
Well, I'm having this problem now as well, I got both clients in at the same time, and because of Blizzards brilliance, they share the Documents folder -.-' US needs the variables to say enUS, EU needs it to say enGB.. Meaning I have to change that every time I wanna play.. Anyone got a fix for that? :<
|
Change it to
???: if you don't want to keep switching per region.

Sorry for bumping this thread; but I've tried everything listed in this thread and on the battlenet forums and I still get a language pack error. I was still able to log on yesterday evening, but I have previously had the same problem before (which I fixed by editing Variables.txt)
Things I have tried: Changing Variables.txt settings, changing launcher.db file setting, using the Relocaliser program, deleting cache, deleting Documents/Starcraft II folder, deleting Programdata/StarCraft II folder, running the support programs in Starcraft II/Support, deleting registry settings.
The only thing I haven't done yet that I can think of is to do a clean reinstall, which I really don't want to do as I have a limited amount of Internet data per month (2 gig).
Are there any other people having the same problem? Any suggestions?
|
|
|
Got the same problem since today (yesterday everything worked), and I can tell you that you're not the only one, some people in a german forum experience the same trouble.
As far as I can tell, no suggested solutions of this or any other old thread work for me or anyone else.

Change =enGB to = ruRu
ofc its annoying playing in russian, but thats the only euro language that works atm. trust me.

yes, it works in russian... I have this problem since last night and I tried posting on blizzard forums but for some reasons it tells me that I don't have a valid sc2 character (weird).

yeah well im playing in russian till it works again.. the only thing that makes me russian is my starcraft 2 account settings and the wodka i drunk two weeks ago

Just kidding Thanks man, it works! I hope Blizzard will fix it soon. In the meantime I will learn some cyrillic I guess :D

Okay so, I have 2 accounts on eu. On one i can log in, into the other one i can't. variable lala is both on euGB, and i changed to everything, still cannot log in into the other acc. dafuq?

Blizzard fooked up again... Dont want to play in russian...

The same problem here, the same solution - change language to Russian. My several visits to russian-speaking countries in last couple of years weren't for nothing after all.
If you have some serious issues with sopmthing in russian, I guess you can post a screenshot here and we will sort it out.

This sucks so bad. And yes ruRU works.
Edit: After logging in once as ruRU i changed it to enGB and now it works for me in english.

So i have to play on russian, thats so amazing. Good that everything is not changed to russian aswell, OH RIGHT it is. gl finding maps cheeseking!

Played 4-5 hours ago everything was fine. Now I'm trying to connect and have this Language Pack Required error. Anybody knows what the hell Blizzard is doing?
|
Post on the official forums said they hotfixed it. I am still getting this error however.
|
Also playing in Russian is not a problem for me but it just doesn't work.
Edit: after the 4th try of changing it to russian it did work.
|
not sure what you did different from me, but the russian works for me
|
Not working in italian and many people on the italian forum have the same problem :S
Tried to change it to enGB but it doesn't work!

i have the language pack error and it wants me to upg/play standard.. cant 1v1 2v2 etc.. le faq

Omg the version is so poorly translated into Russian it irritates me.

Someone can help me out of a fix please? I got a new laptop and installed and patched SCII on it. After I tried logging on to the Bnet from the laptop, I couldn't as it said I didnt have the required language pack. To my surprise when I tried playing the game from my usual desktop I got the same error again upon logging in! Now can't I play the game from 2 computers with the same account?
I play on the EU server. Please Help!
|
Out of nowhere it's telling me I don't have the required language pack, I was playing earlier fine, too. I can't login to wol... HOTS seems to work fine. Fixes?

Thanks... don't think I'm gonna bother with that. From what I'm reading online, this issue has cropped up at different times for different people, any explanation as to what might be causing the problem?

Battlenet is currently undergoing a brief maintenance. We’ll provide an update once everything is back up.

the same error for me..tried some solutions. hope blizzard will fix this soon

Changed my language to Russian and played three games. Lost the first because I got supply blocked and I couldn't understand what the woman was screaming at me in Russian, but won the next two. Feel like there should be an achievement for playing in a language you haven't got a clue about!
Edit: spelling
