Another question, should I have speedstep technology enabled or disabled when overclocking to 4.2 GHz. I have Turboboost disabled, but what about
PLL Voltage Override (Disabled/Enabled) Speedstep Technology (Enabled/Disabled)
Is there a way to alter the minimum core speed from 1.6 GHz?
What do you guys mean register the product?
A 6850 is compared in that article...
PLL should be disabled for 4.2GHz.
Speedstep should be disabled if you are not turboboost overclocking...

Yeah I know I saw it, I just meant that I only looked at the part of the benchmarks. So what do you mean by I should have registered it?
|
Does it sound funny/strange to anybody else when people talk about disabling the PLL? It sounds like a terrible idea lol. Somehow I get a mental image of something like..."fuck the timing yo, shit's weak." Disabling PLL overvoltage or some other tweaks make a lot more sense. Obviously that's what's meant. I think.
On a related note, I've seen many an account of what the spread spectrum functionality does, some of which really doesn't bear repeating for fear of spreading the contamination.

All products (not only computer components) carry a limited warranty meaning that there are certain conditions that must be met and limitations on what it covers. One of these conditions for graphics cards is that you must register it within the first thirty days of purchase or you will only receive the standard whatever warranty that the manufacturer has specified in the fine print.

You talk too fancy Myr, so I still leave PLL Override on Disabled right? Oh Newegg can extend warranty for $10, is that what you meant?

This is what happened. I reset my BIOs back to default (got bored, had like the perfect stable setup). I changed everything back to normal, with all Speedstep and Turbo technology disabled, PLL override disabled, the same vCore of 1.27-1.29 (tried all, using 1.27 since it was my last stable setup) and multiplier of 42.
For some reason it is not displaying on CPU-Z 1.58 (it was before). It just shows 3.3 GHz. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? (Capped and fixed at 3.3, does not drop or increase)
Also, how would I register from PowerColor? http://www.powercolor.com/Global/products_features.asp?id=273 Cannot find any link from that site about registering.

lol. No. It means, say I bought an MSI GTX 460. Upon buying it, I go to their website, and register the product. I give them my information, they put the info in their database, it's all free.

What? Newegg is not a manufacturer, Newegg is a retailer.
The manufacturer warranty is listed on the specifications / on the box and for graphics cards, it's usually two years to lifetime warranty upon registration. Read the fine print next time or ask before purchasing. Many manufacturers list the conditions and limitations in plain sight. Some such as EVGA is even nice enough to bold it for you. All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.
A retailer product protection or extended warranty or whatever the retailer decides to brands it is just essentially extending their return policy from thirty days to a year or whatever length you decided to end up wasting money on.
So purchasing an extended warranty from Best Buy Newegg means you deal with the retailer instead of having to deal with the manufacturer directly. Some people do this because of convenience while many others do this to waste money.

PowerColor will ONLY repair or replace your product (if under warranty), we do not offer ANY KIND of refund or reimbursement.
Well it was worth a try and got my hopes up, but I'll just give up on it. I would contact Newegg to try to argue with them for a refund but the deal ends in 2 hours and their offices are closed.
So could you please help me with my OC problem I posted above? Thanks!

I don't remember what motherboard you have nor can I see your BIOS screen. You don't seem very knowledgeable and you say you have turbo boost disabled so you are probably turbo boost overclocking without realizing it. And with turbo boost disabled... ya.
|
You didn't tell us what motherboard you had.
Some motherboards have presets for the 2500k in 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 Ghz where you can just load it and leave it
|
What does turbo boost overclocking mean? You told me to disable Turboboost when I PMd you once. Sorry if I forgot to mention it, my motherboard is the Biostar B+ version. I didn't use presets back then and it worked fine.

With the extended two year warranty it's only $760, and the GPU is only marginally (~10%) worse than the one you linked. I was comparing it to the price you gave including the warranty simply because I personally wouldn't buy a laptop refurbished without a warranty, but once again, that could be me. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destination=review&config_id=6578767&aoid=35252Also with a coupon code for about $125 off, you could get this setup new for around $799, with an i7 instead of i5 and a 6770M, which I believe is superior to the GT 550M, but I'm not incredibly good with laptop GPUs. Coupon Code: NBQD1694 Intel Core i7-2630QM 2GHz Quad-Core Sandy Bridge 6 GB RAM 6770M GPU 640 GB 7200 RPM Blu-ray player It comes with a free xbox360 if you're a student, if not, get a student to buy it for you! Although I admit that's starting to get out of the price range. Those are both 1366x768 and 15.6", the one I posted was 1920x1080 and 17.3". That is significant for me, and means that neither is comparable.

Turbo boost is literally a feature bulletpoint for all high end Intel processors. I'm sorry to be rude, but you should do a bit of research on the terms before fiddling with them.
Turbo boost is literally a feature that automatically "overclocks" processor cores depending on provided temperatures, voltages, and load. You want this off because you are manually overclocking.

Ah. Well if it means anything you can upgrade the HP one to 1920x1080 for a whopping $150 (not worth it anymore imo), but the hardware on that Dell isn't even good enough to go high/ultra at that resolution anyways. I think people in general also typically prefer 15.6'' over 17.3'' so my bad^. Go for it if you want, I personally have a taboo against refurbished computer parts. Of course, it's nice to have that resolution for other tasks.
I'd just spend the extra $100 and buy it new from Dell (they're selling that laptop nonrefurbished for $744).
Edit: It's late, and I'm wrong, it's around $250 more, I keep forgetting resolution.

Requesting a build/upgrade. I don't know too much about computers, my friend helped me build my current one. Would want something that allows me to run games like Witcher 2 on max settings or near max settings on 2048 x 1152.
Currently using
E8400 9800 GT 2 x 2GB DDR2 Antec Earthwatts EA500 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard ATX mid tower case,
What is your budget? Would prefer to spend around $1k but can go higher if extra performance is worth the money.
What is your resolution? 2048 x 1152
What are you using it for? Gaming
What is your upgrade cycle? 3-4 years
When do you plan on building it? As Soon As Possible
Do you plan on overclocking? Don't know anything about overclocking but yes, if possible. Have roommates that can help.
Do you need an Operating System? No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Yes, if you guys think it's worth the money
Where are you buying your parts from? Everything Online, U.S.
Would also like a 60 GB SSD if someone can recommend one
Thanks a lot for your help

I did not know what he meant by turboboost overclocking, unless you guys assumed I was silly enough to not know when TB is disabled or enabled?, which I just realized what he meant right now.
I did disable it(I do know how), and as I mentioned in my post, CPU-Z says it stays at 3.3 GHz regardless of the stress put onto it, or how idle it is.
