Antec 900 sucks, particularly since it's not the v2 or 902. The actual 900 is horrendous in about 50 different ways, and is really more like a $45 case, IMO. That's objectively, shit cable management, bad HDD mounting, and the typical gamer styling noise.

Antec 900 is not good. Coolermaster HAF 922 doesn't have dust filters...do you care about that? Don't really like any of those cases because they're so expensive for little to no reason...even the Arc's fan controller isn't worth more than $5 because that's how much a PCIe fan controller costs. I mean for $90 you can buy a true Lian Li chassis.
A decent deal is this Lancool K60 for ~$80. The best tool-less features, lots of preinstalled fans, fan filters, pretty roomy, and solid 0.8mm steel.

Other than the gray interior does it differ much from the K62? That's looking like the case I'll end up going with.

Besides the LED fans, unpainted interior, and no side window there isn't any difference.

Well, technically the lack of a side window is a huge difference, since cheap acrylic lets out way more noise than .8mm steel.
|
I have a side window in my current case. I like the look, but for $40 and less noise it's probably best to go with the K58. With my case on the floor next to my desk, I don't look into it too often anyway.
Edit: And the fans would probably be pretty cheap to add eventually, right?

Depends on the fans, but you have the advantage of being able to pick the fans that go in. Good ones aren't cheap per se, but they're generally worth it over bad ones, and buying cheap ones, then ending up replacing them with good ones because of noise or premature death costs more than buying good ones to begin with.

Basic 140mm fans are around $10 each. Though Xigmatek is selling 140mm fans on Newegg for $3 after rebates. It doesn't make sense...
Speaking of which, does Newegg not sell Thermalright hardware anymore? They have by far the best 140mm fans, for a pretty good price in Australia anyway, and I cannot find them.

True enough. For an $80 case, I'm sure the fans serve their purpose but probably aren't of the highest quality. The $20 you save on the cheaper case would probably be better put to decent fans, as you put, if they're even necessary.

Hi All, Hi SkyR, Hi JingleHell, Hi Womwomwom ( I just follow you guys recommendation for other, so good) I need all of you guys help for my first build pc. I’m totally noob for hardware stuff. I’m a student in Oklahoma, USA which does not have much computer store around from what I know, so mostly I will have to buy online. I do need everything in the case CPU, Mobo, GPU, RAM, HDD, Case, OS( maybe will check at school first if they have discount for student for Windows 7), monitor, keyboard, and what necessary in the case.
What is your budget? ~$800-1000 USD or +100 USD if I have to
What is your resolution? I'm not really know much about monitor, but if it possible I would love to play SC2 in medium to high PS from what I’ve read so far Asus VH232H 23” 1920x1080 is ok?
What are you using it for? I want to use it to play 80% on SC2 on the best possible settings I can get, and some game in the future like first person shooting, browse webpages, school work, run some visual basic 2010, some SQL, and some photoshop, watch streaming, watch youtube, Netflix.
What is your upgrade cycle? I usually buy a new computer every 4-5 years, last 8 years I just had 3 laptop so far
When do you plan on building it? ASAP. because my recently laptop which I play SC2 everyday just die on me 2 days ago
Do you plan on overclocking? Probably not, I have no experience about it
Do you need an Operating System? Yes. (maybe will check at school first if they have discount or free for student for Windows 7)
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I don’t think so
Where are you buying your parts from? I’m in US. Thus I’m thinking about get it at newegg. If you guys can give me some advise which web site is good to buy it, it would help me a lot.
This is what I have in mind so far CPU: core i5 2400 Mobo: Asrock H61 M-VS or USS3 < have no idea what different T-T GPU: EVGA GTX 560 Ti-AR? Maybe RAM: G.Skill 2x4GB DDR3 1600? Case: Cooloer Master HAF 912? Monitor: Asus VH232H 23” 1920x1080? Keyboard: no idea T-T
Ps. Most of this just copy from you guys recommendation since page 300. -___-‘ Ps. If it’s possible could you guys list the price and link or/and suggestion for the best fit with $1000 for me. Ps. I have another question for the heatsink most of recommendation is go for COOLER MASTER Hyper 212, on my build and my budget , do I really need it?
Thank you in advance for all your help.

What do you guys think about Radeon 6950 2gb? I read somewhere that you can flash the BIOS to make it 6970? Or am I just better off OCing 560 ti to hopefully match the stock 570?
EDIT: Looks like they got the 6950s around 230-250 plus you get Dues Ex game for free
Yes, the 6950 2gb variant can be flashed to a 6970 but it isn't a guarantee nor is it easy with some of the non reference designs. Note that there are very few (probably no more) reference designs in the retail channel, all of XFX 6950s are not reference. Non reference designs may require hardware or software modding in order to be flashed.
You should get your configuration up and running with everything stable and up to date before overclocking.

So I have a friend who wants to build a new PC and wants me to help him. So I was wondering if I could be recommended a good build for him. His budget is around 600-700 dollars. He'll be using it for gaming and general web browsing nothing too intense. His upgrade cycle will probably be around 3-4 years and we plan on building it within the next week or two. He does need an operating system. The site we'll probably be using is ncix.com
Thanks for your help.

You have a decent list of components.
You don't need to purchase an aftermarket heatsink such as the Hyper 212+ as you won't be overclocking. The provided Intel heatsink is more than adequate for such a configuration.
H61M-VS is one of the most basic H61 boards while the H61M U3S3 comes with more connectivity along with USB3 (for external devices such as HDDs) and SATA3 (primarily for SSDs).
You should be fully aware that going with a H61 / H67 motherboard along with a core i5 2400 has no overclocking capabilities. You need a P67 or Z68 motherboard along with a core i5 2500k if you want to do it down the road or do it right off the bat.
1600MHz provides negligible difference so I think it's best to stick with a $45 2x4GB 1333MHz cas9 kit unless you fancy those heatspreaders.
You're missing a power supply, since the XFX Core Edition 450w is out of stock, I would recommend either the Antec Neo 520 or Antec High Current Gamer 520, both around $50 - $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371047
You're also missing a DVD drive/burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136238
As well as a HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

Just in case it's not obvious, any student should be able to get a discounted Windows 7 for about $30 through the bookstore, even if you don't qualify for the free program. Anyone with a .edu e-mail address (or a friend with one) can order a copy of windows 7 professional ("upgrade", but it's the full program) from the Windows website for a $30 download.
