I looked into the Corsair Obsidian 650D and it's just not cutting it out for me.. I would get the regular 600t (non-white) but I want a case with a side window panel. I like the sleek and simple look of the 600t.
Not to argue with you but the 650D is in my opinion more sleek and simple looking than the 600t and has a side panel window with basically the same connections of usb, audio and such ports as the 600t. Not sure what you are looking for then. I do like the look of the 600t myself over the 650 but I wouldn't describe it like that.
Maybe like a silverstone raven rv02 or temjin, but they are not the cheapest. Raven have the motherboards connections pointing upward. Xigmatek Utgard also has decent design, is cheaper and have a version with a window if you can handle the X-shaped cutout.

You'll probably have to specify more what you want if you want better advice.
If you like the 600t maybe this design appeal to you (No side window though): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119138 It's different but I get the same vibe from it. Maybe that's just me.

Excuse me, but I have never used a dual-core processor before, my Q6600 was the first computer I used (after the Celeron single-core series when I was like 6 that is). When will a dual-core start "choking" from its number of cores, what level of multitasking starts being a hassle for a dualcore? (no gaming or streaming)
|
Are we still talking about your dad? There's honestly probably not anything he'll do that will choke a core i3 2100 except if maybe he does massive amounts of editing, rendering, and archiving...

If you're not gaming or streaming... and assuming by saying that you mean nothing intensive... it won't really "choke" at all from being only a dual core... you could go with less than an i3 2100 for basic tasks really.

Can we have a section for monitors? I feel like it deserves some explanation as well.

As a matter of pure chance I was surfing around and found this: http://www.corsair.com/graphite-series-600-side-panel-with-windowed-and-mesh-inserts.html
Just buy the black 600t and then get this side panel replacement and you get what you want. Saw it on ncix for 29.99.

There's a whole list of stuff in the OP of this very thread, in fact. All kinds of info.

Hmm wonder if it's worth the hassle to try and price match the i5 2500k at Tigerdirect; Fry's has it for $199. Could buy it in store, but I'd only save like $3 after tax. Could get economy shipping from Tigerdirect for $6, assuming they'll price match it. Still only like $13 in savings though, so not really worth it I guess.

Well, let's compare it to what it would cost to make a brand-new PC with similar performance components (these will probably all be slightly better):
CPU - about $50 GPU - about $70 RAM - about $30 HDD - about $40 Mobo- about $40-50 DVD - about $20 Total: about $250, but it would perform slightly better + it would be new. You didn't mention case and PSU though.
I wouldn't pay even $200 for it myself, can do a better/similar performance config and have it be new.

They don't pricematch from what I'm aware?
Anyways, if you were going to pricematch you should use microcenter, which usually has it for $179.

I was out of touch with computer hardware for a while. Could someone go over my current picks and tell me if it's a reasonable configuration for its price? Perhaps you could suggest some better alternatives for some things. I basically need to build a computer from scratch as I'm tired of using laptop all the time.
+ Show Spoiler [the build] + PCU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 QC AM3 125W BE MB: MSI 890FXA-GD65 AMD 890FX Socket AM3 GPU: Palit GeForce GTX460 1024MB DDR5/256bit PCI-E PSU: Corsair 500W Builder Series CX500 V2 RAM: 2x 2048MB GoodRam DDR3 PC1333 CL9 HDD: Caviar 500GB WD5000AADS FDD: 1.44MB Samsung Black CDR: DVD-Rec LiteOn DS-8A5S SATA Slim Black Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 Black Keyboard: SteelSeries 6G V2 Mouse: SteelSeries Xai Monitor: LG W2246S-BF 22'' LCD
Notes: ATI GPUs are out of question for me. I'm using Linux most of the time (will get W7 for gaming purposes though) and ATI's drivers are shit.

Without knowing component availability and pricing, there is no way if we can tell if that is reasonable or not. If it's based off regular pricing than that's a horrible configuration since AM3 is a dead socket and Phenom II X4 955 performance is five years old.
You also have a Caviar Green as your boot drive which is not recommended as these are slow drives meant for storage purposes only. You would want your operating system and software on a 7200RPM HDD such as a Caviar Blue, Caviar Black, or Samsung Spinpoint F3.

It's not a good computer but there could do better with some optimization
like the psu, you dont need 500w, get the corsair 420 one, or xfx 450
and do you plan on SLI for getting such a mobo ? a cheap one with an i5-2400 would be better and cost just a bit more

I don't know what prices are like in poland, so I'm going on this assuming they're similar to north american prices
I'd recommend going with an i3-2100 over an AMD phenom II X4 955
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=289
As you can see, the only things the X4 wins are things specifically designed for quad-core usage, but even then, the i3 runs up to 4 threads nativly, so it's not really a big difference. For everything else, the sandy bridge architecture is just so much better that the i3-2100 beats out the X4
You'd want to match it with an H61 motherboard, something like this (I don't know where you're ordering from in poland)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138311
Your PSU is overkill, You'd be fine with an antec 380
Your hard drive sucks. It's meant for mass storage, or to be used if you have an SSD to. You want a 7200RPM drive, which are indicated by "blue" or "black"

I don't plan on SLI right now, but I'd like to leave this option open for future. I'll go over Mobo and Proc again, I could probably squeeze in i5 although it would cost a bit more.
Ok, found a better config (I think) in different shop. It's going to cost ~150USD more but I can live with that if it's going to be better.

I tried to cut some corners here and there, but at the same time I've decided to go a bit overboard on other things. Better now?
And as far as price difference between USA/PL go, this build is going to cost me roughly 1300-1400USD
