I have read that changing the registry to be able to change AHCI can cause headaches later, can someone confirm that? Should I do a full re installation of windows?

I've read that it needs to be PCI E 3.0 compatible but I don't see any of those. i have this MOBO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130571 will that be able to run ivy bridge or update to PCI E 3.0? or when ivy bridge comes out will i need to buy a new MOBO too? Ivybridge uses the same LGA1155 socket. It's expected that most boards will support it through a BIOS update. All boards with PCIe 3.0 support are guaranteed to support Ivybridge as PCIe 3.0 needs Ivybridge to even work. MSI has announced Ivybridge ready boards (Z68) and Asrock has done the same (P67, Z68). Gigabyte is the only one so far to announce that their entire LGA1155 lineup is ready to support Ivybridge.

It came down to $400 without a monitor or OS, 500 with an OS. 4 GB DDR3 Ram Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Intel Core i3 2100 Nvidia GT 430 1 GB 1 TB HDD My mother said since it was my idea to build it for him she raised my budget a little, so I decided to make my dad's life easier and made it a bit better. Thanks a lot guys! I'm still confused by your choice. You've been told by multiple posters that for non-gaming you aren't likely to notice any difference between the integrated graphics on the i3 and the discrete card. Just seems like $50-60 that could have gone on any number of other things that would make a noticeable difference in life. Also you were asking about "plugging in" the integrated graphics, which makes me think you're not getting the concept of "integrated"? It's integrated, literally on, part of the CPU. All H61/H67 motherboards will use the CPU's integrated graphics if no discrete card is installed.

Intel i5-2500k Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Z68 ATX Intel Motherboard Gigabyte Super Overclocked GTX 560 Ti Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHZ Antec High Current Gamer 520W Razer Lycosa [I got all these from Microcenter] These parts I chose were slightly off of what skyR suggested for me earlier this summer. I just want to confirm with you guys to see if these parts that I listed are still a viable option. Let me know. Also, I'm still missing a case and a monitor; I'm kinda stuck on what to get for them. Any suggestions? To give you an idea of what I wanted, I actually planned on getting the Corsair 600T white edition case but it was out of stock at Microcenter. So I'm looking for something similar to that. As for monitor, I just want a overall good 27in monitor. Thanks in advance

If you're looking for a white case, there is a white version of the Fractal Design Define R3 (uh and NZXT Phantom and the budget Source 210). 27" monitors that are resolutions higher than 1920x1200 tend to be several hundred dollars. Those that are standard resolutions kind of have low pixel pitch and aren't worth the cost and size in some estimations. I'm not going to tell you what's better for you, but have you thought about just using a 23-24" and maybe positioning it closer?

I looked into the Corsair Obsidian 650D and it's just not cutting it out for me.. I would get the regular 600t (non-white) but I want a case with a side window panel. I like the sleek and simple look of the 600t. @myrmidon The Z68XP-UD3 was cheaper than the mobo that I was planning to get which was the ASUS P8P67 Pro so I thought it'll be a better idea to get the Z68 and plus it has the Intel Smart Response Technology. I'm not looking for a white case just a case similar to the looks of the 600t but with a window side panel. As for the monitor, you think a 24" monitor is better off in terms of gaming and watching movies? And what's your recommendation for a good monitor?

The thing is, at a same resolution, a smaller screen will have smaller pixels, so like on a 27" they will be pretty big, so with a good eyesight that can hurt your eyes, but for people like me who have bad eye sight it's ok.

XFX 6870 with double fan cooler and 3 free games if you purchase the Combo Deal, final price of $155 after rebate XFX 6870 Black Edition which is factory overclocked, also has the 3 free games offer. Has the normal cooler and costs $5 more at $160 after rebate. Which do you think is better, the factory OC card or the dual fan one (plus 5 bucks)?

What is your budget? – $800 to $1000 What is your resolution? – 1600x900 What are you using it for? – Gaming mostly. Want to be able to run SC2/D3 and maybe others with solid graphics. What is your upgrade cycle? – Probably about 4-5 years. When do you plan on building it? – Hopefully this weekend. Do you plan on overclocking? – Yes I would like to but I am new to it. Do you need an Operating System? – I can probably get Win7 cheaper through my school. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? – No. Where are you buying your parts from? – NCIX maybe? I am in Canada. I put together a build that I thought looked decent ($891). Does everything look okay? I have no idea about the case, the motherboard or the fan and went with whatever got good reviews. Is it worth it to invest in a better case? + Show Spoiler + Motherboard – MSI P67A-G43 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=59095 CPU – Intel i5 2500k http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57962 GPU - Diamond Radeon HD 6850 775MHZ http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57000&promoid=1365 Power Supply - XFX 450W Core http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=63238&promoid=1300 RAM – Mushkin Stiletto 2x4GB DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=55544&promoid=1365 Case - Antec 300 Mini Tower http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=29812&promoid=1365 SSD - Crucial m4 64GB http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=60444 HDD - WD Caviar Blue 500GB 7200RPM http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=58402 DVD - Samsung DVDRW 22X SATA Black http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=60344&promoid=1300 Fan – Corsair A50 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=53611 Thanks so much!

You're paying premium for a SLI ready motherboard when the XFX Core Edition 450 is incapable of powering a GTX 570 SLI configuration. The Asrock P67 Pro3 is basically the same board with less connectivity and no ability to SLI / CrossfireX. That should get you to the $1000 mark.
