And the BIOS is really less about the board and more about the brand usually. Certain brands have more rational ones than others. But then, the majority of my experience comes with enthusiast brands. My wife won't let me build new PCs as often as I'd like, so I just spend more when I do. The minimal gains you can pick up tweaking and using higher end stuff may not be huge, but when your upgrade cycle is going to be longer than you like, they're worth it sometimes.

Yeah, Ill know for next time. Unfortunatly I was relativly tight with money. My idle temps right now are high 30s, although I just ran prime95 for almost 2hours.. it should go down a bit. I guess I'll just leave it at 4Ghz for a while and see if everything runs well.

4Ghz is kind of low for a 2500k, but it's still definitely not shabby at all. And for the record, I idle in the mid-high 40s. High 30s is cold, for cores.

Had to flash a BIOS on a 775 board that didn't want to let me use USB. Remember the good old days of taping over the little tab slot on free AOL floppies so they'd be good for something?

It would be helpful if you post product names and prices so people don't have to keep clicking, but whatever. Anyway, the key point to make here is that you can't stream out SC2 smoothly with a dual core. You're either going to have to take a hit to SC2 performance and settle for a lower-quality stream by getting a Phenom II X4 for the same price (not recommended) or step up to a Core i5. edit: so for streaming, at that resolution... What is your resolution? 1680x1050. What are you using it for? i basically want good performance for starcraft (example: id like to be able to play 4v4s everyone maxed at low settings without lagging at all). i am also going to be using this computer for school work, a lot of photoshop, and some video encoding work from time to time. What is your upgrade cycle? my upgrade cycle is usually long, i usually buy a new computer every 2-3 years, but id like to stick with this one for a long time (maybe 5+ years). When do you plan on building it? before the end of august. Do you plan on overclocking? nope. Do you need an Operating System? not really, but if you can fit one ill take it. (windows 7, 32 or 64 bit is fine) Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? nope. Where are you buying your parts from? im in montreal canada, so ill be using newegg.ca/ncix/directcanada. (whatever is best) thank you a whole lot! Here's a configuration for $776 before mail in rebates that's capable of playing more than just Starcraft at 1080p on reasonably high settings. If you're interested in lowering the total because your goal is just to play Starcraft II on low aand nothing else than you can change the graphics card to a Radeon HD5770 or GTS 450 whcih would bring the total down by roughly $100. I would definitely get a better psu. with that card and cpu, you want something of better quality and just a bit more watts. also I'm sure you know but the MB is a micro. not sure if that's what you intended or not You have an unlocked processor (i5-2500k), but you have a barebones basic chipset with your motherboard (H61). You won't be able to overclock your processor, which would sort of defeat the point of purchasing an i5-2500k. Your power supply does not have enough 6-pin connectors to power your video card (GTX 560 Ti). so it appears i would need to change my psu and maybe change my processor since i dont really want to overclock it. what do you suggest? thanks a lot!

Well for a quick time-saver I'll note they mis-read the build. SkyR recommended an i7-2500, without K, which make the motherboard well-suited. I bow to others when it comes to power supplies.

Yes the power supply provides only one 6pin PCIe connector so you would have to use a single PCIe to molex adapter that's provided by the graphics card. I did list an alternative which is of higher quality and provides enough connectors without the use of adapters.

EDIT: Nvm, looking up, he's recommending the i5-2500. EDIT2: You might have misread too, since he says he accidently linked to the incorrect processor^. EDIT3: Fuck, he said that after you posted. It's been a long day at work, I need to stop posting, I'm going home.
