How much is your budget? my budget is about 600 dollars mind telling me why I should get it 2400 if im getting a h61 mobo? Thanks Because a 2500k is only marginally faster without overclocking (That's what the -k means, it's unlocked to OC), and an H61 board can't OC.
wow thanks, you saved me a couple of bucks there. Noted!

oh, and also, should I also get a CPU cooler and some fans? or this setup would run fine without it?

You only need a better CPU cooler than the stock one to OC. You're not OCing.
And the CX430 isn't a cheapo unit. It's a decent quality one at a good price.

What I meant was I wanted to buy a much cheaper PSU than that to save more money. But I think I should get a good quality one. Wouldnt want my pc to blow up on me D:

This is correct. A bad PSU is a false savings, as a second motherboard and CPU after the first ones fry will cost considerably more than a better PSU.

That is pretty much the cheapest half decent PSU.

Hey all, I'm currently looking to build a new computer and I'd love some help with the build.
What is your budget?
~$800-$1000. I dont need a keyboard/display/mouse, just the computer itself. Also I dont mind exceeding the budget as long as its within reason.
What is your resolution?
I plan on upgrading my monitor as well (outside of the budget) so it can be tailored to fit this computer,
What are you using it for?
Mostly gaming(maybe some streaming?) and general use, I'll also be doing some programming and editing on it as well.
What is your upgrade cycle?
Mostly likely 2+ years.
When do you plan on building it?
Within the next month or so.
Do you plan on overclocking?
No
Do you need an Operating System?
Have an OS already
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Wasn't planning on it, however if its useful/recommended I wouldn't mind it either.
Where are you buying your parts from?
Anywhere is fine, but I'd most likely use newegg.
Edit:changed budget and usage

So after reading and searching several hours, this is the build I have come up with:
My first question, for reference :http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137554¤tpage=1175#23493 (Change to answer to OC'ing from no to a yes.)
CPU Intel i5-3750k €173,75 Heatsink/fan for the CPU Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO €30,- Motherboard Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 €114,75 Video card Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 €210,- Power supply OCZ ZS Series 550W €63,- Memory Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB €52,25 HDD Hitachi 7k1000 €82,85 SSD OCZ Petrol 128GB €83,90 Primary optical drive Lite-On IHAS124 €25,- Case Antec Three Hundred Two €48,72 Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit €84,95
Peripherals Monitor Dell U2312HM €150,00 Mouse/keyboard Razer Deathadder (already owned) / Yet to make a choice Headset Razer Carcharias (already owned)
Total: €1120
I have a few questions about my current setup: 1) I presume this will fulfill my needs for the next 4-5 years? And mostly, is the GPU powerful enough now and for the next 4-5 years? 2) Is the PSU sufficient? 3) Monitor too pricey for the budget, or worth it? 4) Should I cut into my components to make room for a nice mechanical keyboard or just wait it out until my birthday (end of the year) and go with a €10 piece? 5) Any other tips, suggestions, improvements to be made?
Thanks for reading!

If you're looking to play the latest games on max settings than no the GPU will not suffice.
PSU is more than sufficient.
Monitor is fine. You stare at the monitor and you keep it forever so why wouldn't you get a good one...?
It's up to you whether you want to get a mechanical keyboard now or wait...

Hey guys I have a very quick, specifc question...
Right now my current rig is two years old and I have a HD 4870 GPU.
I am going to be building a new PC for streaming in a couple months and I was wondering if you guys think I would have to get a new GPU as well.
I'm going to be getting an i7 ivy bridge, 16 GB of fast RAM, and obv a new mobo.
I want to stream 1080p, and I only play SC2 on the low settings but it might be higher when I'm casting. Should I update my card to something like the 560 ti or should I save myself the $300 and stick with the HD 4870?
1920x1080 btw
|
HD 4870 is still good enough for High quality settings in SC2 @ 1920x1080. The video card has no effect whatsoever on streaming because all streaming software currently runs on the CPU and is not GPU-accelerated at all, nor do I foresee that happening anytime in the near future.
Since it seems like you're serious about a good stream, you'll want to invest in an i7 3770K with a solid overclocking motherboard and a high-end CPU cooler like the Thermalright Silver Arrow, Noctua NH-D14, or Phanteks PH-TC14PE.
16GB of fast RAM is useless for streaming. 8GB is enough for the vast majority of people, and above DDR3-1600 the gains in performance are so minimal that they are completely negligible.

Thanks, that's really what I wanted to know. I'm getting 16gb of RAM because of a deal through Newegg.
What do you think about this board?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821
I really haven't ventured away from ASUS ever when buying a board, and I've never really built a streaming machine before so I want to make sure I get it right and am happy with my results.
Thanks :D

It's a good but expensive board with a 5yr warranty. Do you really care enough about the warranty length that you'd pay ~$100 more for it? Would you rather not save that money for a video card upgrade or something else?
There are decent Z77 boards in the ~$110-150 range that can overclock really well and are overall solid. Stick to Asus, Gigabyte, or ASRock.

Hi guys, I am looking to upgrade my PC to make playing games (Starcraft II,DotA2,trying out Blacklight Retribution) more enjoyable and to revisit some older games I wasn't quite able to enjoy as much as I'd like to (Just Cause 2,Crysis 2,DE:HR etc.) I'm pretty much decided on my build made using brain but I'd like someone lil' more tech savvy to take a look at it.
What is your budget? Around $450.
What is your resolution? 1680x1050
What are you using it for? Mostly gaming? Yep.
What is your upgrade cycle? 2+ years.
When do you plan on building it? Within 3-4 weeks.
Do you plan on overclocking? Prob not,low budget.
Do you need an Operating System? Nope. From what I gather to use the full use out of 4gigs of RAM I should get a 64bit Win7,correct?
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No.
Where are you buying your parts from? I use a page called Heureka.cz which pretty much pulls the prices from e-shops and calculates the cheapest way to get the parts.
I don't need a monitor/kb/mouse etc. Right now I'm looking for a CPU,GPU,PSU,MB and RAM.
This is what I have so far: CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE $115 GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB DDR5, 11179-09-20G $186 PSU: Seasonic SS-500ET $54 MB: At first I was looking at the MSI 760GM-E51 $40 but I didn't find the Chipset AMD 760G in the recommended chipsets so I'm thinking about MSI 870A-G54 $52 RAM: Either Kingston DDR3 4GB 1333MHz CL9 (2x2GB) KVR1333D3N9K2/4G $27 or Kingston DDR3 8GB 1333MHz CL9 (2x4GB) KVR1333D3N9K2/8G $45 (should I pay $10 more for 1600MHz?

I love the 955/965 be with the 870a-g54. Though most people will give you shit for considering an 965 over a 2100, I personally prefer the amd FOR MY PERSONAL HOME USE CASE.
Granted, for the strict gamer I guess go the i3 2100 route, and any budget just a hundred our two more nothing beats the i5blah blah you get the idea.
Ill only say they because I have a fetish for the 870a-g54 or something its been the most kind and reliable board off all three or four amd systems I've built and 15-20 intel boards I've been though.

Alright, my cousin is getting married and me and his buddies are going to buy him a new computer as a wedding present. His current computer is a COMPLETE SHITBOX!!!! It's like a 6+ year old possibly second hand to begin with HP prebuilt pile of garbage. It was for writing college papers and that's about it.
Currently all he plays is DotA2, on low everything. He can't even run ventrilo in the background because his computer can't handle it. I'm not sure what he would play if he could. Possibly SC2, possibly GW2 for the PvP but he's not an MMO person. Maybe some RPGs?
He's on his own for a mouse/keyboard. He's also on his own for a monitor. I have a case he can use that's still in great shape as I plan to replace my own with a CM Storm Stryker (when the damn things aren't backordered forever!). Otherwise he needs the works. PSU, Mobo, HDD, Video card, processor, etc.
Doesn't really need a solid state drive, don't know that he'd get a ton of usage out of it and he can always add one if he wants. I would like to throw in a decent headset (with mic). His older brother lives in China and they use skype to keep in touch so that would be appreciated. Also I'm sure his wife would prefer to not hear us screaming at eachother while gaming lol. A webcam would be neat for skype but certainly not necessary.
What is your budget?
~$800. Cheaper is cool, I'm not entirely sure the total budget pool we have to work with. Depends on how broke/cheap his friends are. Want something alright, doesn't have to be a world ender. Something he can upgrade in the future if he so desires. Just a good starting point.
What is your resolution?
I'm not sure. He uses an old CRT. I'm guessing 1024x768. If he wants to buy a monitor in the future that's on him. I'm going to suggest he look at one during cyber monday. Something that can handle 1920x1080 should the need arise.
What are you using it for?
Gaming & general crap.
What is your upgrade cycle?
With him? Apparently when hell freezes over =P Luckily his family and friends have decided it just froze. He might throw an upgrade in here and there but assume this is going to get run into the ground.
When do you plan on building it?
Sometime before October 6th. That's when the wedding is. Maybe for the bachelor party, not sure how nerdy that's going to get if he'll need a comp or not. "Soonish" tm.
Do you plan on overclocking?
If I did I'd be doing it for him and I'm not going to save his comp from exploding. Mine is OCed and runs great with an h50 water cooler. If we go the OC route something pretty hands off.
Do you need an Operating System?
Yes, but I'm going to find out if he can get a student copy yet from his fiance. He knows we're doing this so if he can get windows for $7....
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Maybe in the future to keep up with games but probably not. If so it'd be years down the road.
Where are you buying your parts from?
I'd prefer a nonshady site. I've never really trusted Tigerdirect. I'd prefer Newegg where possible. I also live close to a microcenter so that's an option.
