I plan on upgrading my HDD, i currently have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074 is it possible to use:
WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Blue 750GB 7.2k 32MB SATA600 WD7500AALX
instead of it without changing my motherboard?
EDIT: Is case "Thermaltake V4 Black Edition" any good? I just need big case that cane use bigger proportions for cooling, already have good PSU.

You'll be able to use that harddisk. Depending on which motherboard you have (whether or not it supports SATA-600), you may not be able to use the disk at full speed, but it will definitely work and be faster than your current disk (as well as provide more space).

Uhhh, yeah, not an issue, it's a 7200 RPM drive, it doesn't really need 6Gb/s SATA. You need an SSD to saturate 3Gb/s.
Well, RAID can start seeing slight improvements, I think, but yeah. For normal use, 3Gb/s is sufficient for a single HDD without slowdowns.

Ok thanks a lot Really helps me

Hello there As I'm studying Medicine I'm not really good in HW/SW thingies. Back before when I was in HighSchool I knew all the important things about PC's and I could buy a really good PC but for the past 4-5 years since I bought my new PC I have basically no idea about new things so I would like to have a little bit of Help. I want to buy a PC from A-Z, including Monitor display.
My budget: That would be 1000 EURO but notice I'm from Romania and as I researched a bit every piece of Hardware here has a bigger prize then in Western Countries. For example an ASUS nVidia GeForce GTX560, 1024MB, GDDR5, DVI, HDMI, PCI-E costs 185 Euro but this is basically the highest price on the Romanian Market. So the GFX prize of this costs 160-180 Euro.
Resolution Atm its 1280x1024 But as I mentioned I want to buy a whole new Display aswell. This dosn't have to be included in the 1000 Euro range but If it's possible shot it
Use of the PC
I'm a gamer. 90% of my time I'm playing games. Not many games. I played 6 years of World of Warcraft and now for 2 years I'm playing StarCraft2. Before I payed Medal of Honor on a pretty high level so I needed really much FPS, also for CoD series. At the moment I don't know if I will ever play again competitively but the idea is to buy a PC that can run any games on a good level. Performance is important. Also I would like to start Streaming, as I have a huge project for the Romanian StarCraft 2 community. Streaming is a key word for my PC. Other then that, nothing important. Just the usual stuff, surfing web, some amateur photoshopping etc.
Upgrade cycle
I bought my last PC 5 years ago. Its a Q6600 Quad Core Intel, with GeForce 9600GT, 4Gb of DDR3. I didn't had the money for a new PC till now. It worked pretty well for everything. This time I would like to buy this PC for 3-4 years. I can afford a GFX card upgrade by the time but other than I wouldn't like to change anything.
When do I want to buy
Most probably between the end of September and beginning of October
Overclocking
Overclocking is not really an option. I tried to overclock my actual PC but never really found a good Guide to do it. So please don't consider this as an option. With time I might find someone who can help me in this but I'm not really interested in this.
Operating System
I don't need it. I can solve this for free
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
With time not, but if you could construct a PC from the start with these options for 1000Euro I'm open for it
Where are you buying your parts from?
I'm planning to buy from a local retailer. But I'm also checking for some options via internet. Maybe I could buy it for less money even with shipping included.
I hope I mentioned every necessary information, and I appreciate in advance that you guys can help me! I'm really not good in PC's so this is a HUGE help for me.

Hi guys, I have a quick question. What is the name of the site that shows you how to assemble a computer?

come back when you build, and you can still buy from good websites that deliver in all of europe

Posted last week and now I have pretty much gotten my build set and have ordered most of it but just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback.

I haven’t built a computer in years now (last one I actually put a lot of time into building was just before dual core came out so yea been a while and I have fallen out of the loop) I am currently running an alienware m17x R1 it has an intel T9800 2.93 6mb, 8gb ram, nvidia gtx 260m, & . a Samsung SSD PM810 256GB (ssdlife screen shot here ). I had purchased it because I needed portability because of traveling a lot. My thinking is that I can save some money by using the SSD from that in my desktop and I could use a trayless hotswap bay so that in the event that I am going away and want to take my computer with me it will takes <5 min to install the hd into the m17x which should be able to run everything my desktop will be able to just not as well. Is that a good idea or am I crazy for wanting to do that. Finally do you think its worth my investing in a desktop now or should I hold out for now. My m17x’s warranty expires in 10 days every piece of hardware in it with the exception of the cpu has been replaced within the last year. What is your resolution? 1920x1200 is what I have been running as it is the native for this computer. What are you using it for? Everyday shanagans that doesn’t really matter, gaming, streaming maybe…but not likely, photoshop, possibly as a media center as well (that was always my thinking in the past for when I build a desktop again however external hd with a blueray player seems to work pretty well lol) As for what games sc2, Diablo 3, potentially some others thought not sure as of now What is your upgrade cycle? Well I don’t really know to be honest. I have been stuck for the most part for the last 3 years because this isn’t a desktop. I would probably say 2-4 years. I guess for the sake of this build I don’t want to plan to upgrade in the near future. Knowing the answer to this question makes it easier for people to recommend CPU sockets and GPUs so you get the most for your money. A person with a longer upgrade (2+ years) cycle will probably end up spending more initially but end up saving more at the expense of some performance. On the other hand a person with a shorter upgrade cycle (1 - 2 years) wants to spend less initially so they can put more money toward their next build. When do you plan on building it? Now-mid aug. Basically once I have a part list I will start collecting parts as I find good deals on them the computer will actually be built in its entirety mid aug. Do you plan on overclocking? Most likely. Which on that note is liquid cooling worth investing in? Do you need an Operating System? No, regardless of if I use my current SSD or not I will not need to pay for a new os I can get it through school or work. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Potentially if it would actually make a significant difference but not initially as I don’t think it will be needed. Thoughts? Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg, Tigerdirect, and Amazon are typically the first places I go but im less worried about where specifically I need to buy a part from if there is one thing I have always been good at its finding what im looking for at the best possible price I just need some direction as to what to look for.

Thank you for your feedback Ideas: - Your motherboard is ridiculously enthusiast for what you are doing. This is $120 cheaper, and identical for your needs. - None of the intended uses in your original post required more than 8 GB of ram, and contrary to popular belief, more ram doesn't make your computer faster, it just makes it weigh a bit more. - Your graphics card is a poor selection in today's market. The 7850 can be had for ~$220, and is significantly better, as you can see here. - You only pay more than ~$60 for a case for aesthetics or quietness. That case has neither. - There are non-shitty keyboards you can get for $150 (as opposed to the blackwidow), check out the mechanical keyboard guide thread. - A quality lower wattage powersupply is more suited to your build, such as this one: Capstone 450W. - Cheaper similarly performing cooling options are available as well.

You really should have followed Myrmidon's advice and just cut/paste sample builds in this thread: - Spent too much on CPU cooler and got a pretty poor one to be quite honest. The recommended options are nearly always the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ or Noctua D14 if you have to get the very best. - Motherboard is overpriced considerably. - Don't need 16GB of memory. - No one has really recommended Sandisk SSDs before in this thread. - You bought a card that costs around the same as a HD7850 yet performs worse than it. - You don't need anywhere near 750W of power. No one here recommends that amount of power.

Hello everybody and thank you for reading. I'm trying to build a somewhat low end PC that can do more than my laptop can. I've been gaming on a fairly low end laptop (Spent $500 in it back in January 2011) for the past year and a half and it just can't do what I want it to do.
I recently got a casting job and this will require me to stream so I need something that is capable of doing the following: - Steaming in atleast 720p. 1080p or 1080p+ would be preferable - Run SC2 on low at a 1920x1080 at atleast 30 fps - Run skype/other streaming programs like scoreboard in the background
Budget: As little as possible. If I'm not mistaking I can easily build something like this for less than $500.
Resolution: Correct me if I'm wrong but you want to have a high resolution if you are streaming/casting so that the HUD doesn't take up too much of the screen. I would perfer 1920x1080 I think.
Usage: Primarily gaming, streaming, and watching movies on netflix/hulu. I'll use my laptop for mostly everything else because it is more than capable of doing those things.
Upgrade Cycle: Really only as necessary. Probably not often. As I graduate college and have a more reliable source of income in the next 2 years I may throw a couple hundred dollars into it but don't expect much.
Timeline: Ready to move as soon as possible
Overclocking: Don't know much about it but I don't plan on it unless I need to in order to do what I want
OS: I have a windows 7 disk
SLI/Crossfie: No idea what these are and I don't think I need a really powerful GPU for low res SC2
Buying Parts: Living in the states so I can buy them online. I also have a Microcenter and Ginstar near me.
A friend of mine that just built a new computer and has some spare parts that he is willing to sell me. I'm not sure if they are going to be useful for this build but he is going to sell them to me for very cheap. He has: - AMD Athlon II X4 641 Llano 2.8GHz Socket FM1 100W - ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard - nvidia 9800gtx1mb gpu - 600 w power supply
He hasn't given me pricing for these yet but I suspect he will sell me all of them for $100-$200. Is this something I should do?
Other parts i will need: - Case - Fan - RAM - PSU - HDD
Thanks in advance for any help. TL is awesome.
I will need a monitor as well but don't include that in the budget. I am open to recommendations though.

$500 budget for 720p streaming is tight. The parts your friend wants to sell aren't that useful, other than perhaps the power supply if it's a decent brand and possibly the graphics card. The CPU is not powerful enough for 720p streaming. You want to look at a setup with an i5 CPU ideally. A Phenom II X6 is a reasonable alternative that is a bit cheaper and still streams okay.
GPU wise, you don't need much if you only want to use low settings. But for streaming/casting, some added eyecandy is generally considered to be beneficial.
Overclocking is a very cheap way of getting more streaming performance. Streaming relies almost completely on the CPU, so overclocking it translates directly into better streaming. If you buy a processor that can be overclocked, make sure to spend $20-$30 extra for a decent third party cooler, so you can get a nice overclock going.

Would something like this be a better way to start the build?

Hrm i will reconsider the motherboard. - As for the 16gb of ram i realize that its not necessary and i was planning to get 8gb originally however that seemed like decent ram and was way cheaper so for not much more then i would normally pay for 8gb i got 16gb. That said i do also regularly use all 8gb of ram on my current computer due to vast multitasking. - As for the graphics card would anyone have any nvidia suggestions? - I liked the aesthetics of the case and my case debate came down to that one and this - The keyboard I have used and like and it is one of the only (if not the only) backl lit mechanicals. - Are there any modular power supplies that you could recommend? - I have had good luck with an older model of that cpu cooler which is which is why I was drawn to it. Is it not a good cooler or is its drawback over the others only its price? - The Sandisk had better reviews and benchmarks across a bunch of different sites and I didn’t see many recommendations on here on 240gb ssds? The only thing I saw was someone saying not to get ocz. Is there a better one that you would suggest?

- Vast multitasking? Of what? I literally cannot fill 8GB without using a virtual machine. - A cheaper GTX560Ti or GTX670. - Get whatever case looks cool to you. Keep in mind extra fans are more often than not useless and holes allow the possibility of noise to leak out. - Corsair Vengeance K90 is an alternative. - Is there a reason why it has to be modular? Rosewill Capstone 450W PSUs come in modular and non-modular variants. Anyway, its your lucky day because there's a 15% coupon for the modular version on Newegg. - Its worse in just about every single way. Its annoying to handle due to the fin placement, you cannot replace the fans when they die, its expensive, and isn't even an amazing performing heatsink for the price. - Any recent Intel, Samsung, Crucial SSD. Benchmarks pretty much mean shit all. You won't feel the difference unless you're keeping CrystalMark running 24/7.
|
Agreed with Wom on all points and: - for the video card, GTX 570 is fine too if you can get one with a nice cooler for a good price. The problem is that they cost about the same as HD 7850's but draw nearly twice as much power, and 7850's overclock to much better performance. Why are you stuck on Nvidia anyway? Your budget seems like it can fit a HD 7870 or 7950 if you can't go all the way to a GTX 670. - you can add Plextor to that list of SSD's, at least if you care about long warranties (5yrs is what sold me). It's true that you will not notice a difference among SATA3 SSD's.
|
-I originally had the 670 but was told by several people that it wasn't worth spending that much on a card. Any suggestions on where to get and which 570 -I have always considered modular to be something worth having. -I guess I will return this ssd and look for another one.

Greetings TL ^_^
Just a high schooler going into his senior year looking for some guidance. My old computer was a very poor hp desktop and much overpriced that my parents bought for me (I was very grateful for my own computer don't get me wrong but the quality of the desktop was undeniably poor). It broke however due to a hardware failure, and I am hoping to reuse some of its parts. I am tossing the power supply, motherboard + integrated gpu, and cpu. There's a couple things I'm worried about. First is bottlenecking, I'm concerned that the parts from my old computer will bottleneck the new parts coming in. Secondly, I'm not sure if 430W is enough to power this system. Thirdly, I've been trying to figure out if AMD is a better choice than Intel or what are the pros/cons of each but I haven't found anything so far.
What is your Budget? I'm hoping to keep it around $400ish for the 4 parts What is your resolution? I've been using 1280x1024 for years now and I believe that's what I'll keep using. What are you using it for? Mostly Gaming, some schoolwork, watching anime, checking fb that sort of thing. I don't really need ultra ultra high super crazy settings but I would like it to run modern games reasonably well. Also SC2 on low at 60fps would be nice. What is your upgrade cycle? Probably pretty soon as I want to replace the parts from my old computer. When do you plan on building it? As soon as I get the money. Just got a job and I'm about halfway there in a week so sometime in the next month. Do you plan on overclocking? Not really, I'm not sure but from what I gather it shortens the life on your hardware and increases heat output for optimized performance. I simply would like to keep my hardware for as long as possible. If I am wrong please let me know =) Do you need an OS? No, I have ways of getting Windows 7 (not illegally of course) Do you plan on getting a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Well, at the moment, no. Simply because it would cost more. In the future, however, it is entirely plausible. Where are you buying your parts from? As you can probably tell from the links, Newegg all the way What is your quest? To find the holy grail
Whew, that took longer than I thought it would. TL please bestow upon me your guidance! ^_^ love you guys

GTX 460 / Radeon HD6850 are basically the same price ($140) and both offer better performance than the GTX 550 Ti and 7770.
Phenom II X4 sucks. For a gaming configuration, you want a Core i3 2100 / 2120 / etc.
