Yeah, I just started Tribes Ascend, but Skyrim has lost me it's fair share of sleep. Along with quite a few other games.

I knew i shouldn't play it, knowing it what the price probably would be, but one day, the temptation was too great....
At least, it's running great, and can't wait to get my third screen and play in surround, though i'll probably have to sacrifice a few settings for that

Especially if you're using the high rez texture pack. I can imagine it's sexy in surround, though, although it's pretty awesome just on a single huge display, too.

http://secure1.ncix.com/cart/ This is the build i'm going for. I want to know if this will work for mostly gaming and some slight overclocking in the future. I want to get the parts ASAP.

Yeah I can't see your shopping cart.

I'm not using the packs yet, going to entirely reformat and put skyrim on an SSD i'm ordering this week
a friend told me about the water/buildings pack, but i'll just be patient (though i'll have to see if i can save my games on steam cloud)

If the hard drive is going to be your boot drive, I would not get a Caviar Green. Get a recent 7200RPM drive of some sort.
Besides that, the build looks fine. My personal preference would be to switch the case and motherboard to a Silverstone TJ08-E and Asus P8Z77-M respectively.

WD RED drives have being released.
Very interesting, I might pick up a few for a NAS setup.

Building from scratch!
+ Show Spoiler +What is your budget?800€ What is your resolution?1920x1080 What are you using it for?Gaming, no streaming, no recording. Would want to be able to play some higher graphics games such as BF3 and crysis 2, tho not on the highest settings. What is your upgrade cycle?3 years When do you plan on building it?By the end of july when I get money for it Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an Operating System? No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?Yes, I plan on adding a second GPU for SLI in the future. Where are you buying your parts from?http://www.komplett.ieAnother note: I would like an SSD harddrive if that's possible, because I have an external harddrive were I save all my heavy stuff, so I would like to have stuff like OS and starcraft 2 on the SSD.
Thanks beforehand!

Thanks Womwomwom. Are there any suggestions for the hard drive. I am a noob when it comes to computer parts and specs.
|
I might seem like a total hardware noob...but i don't understand why you should use a Mobo that allow OC and an aftermarket heatsink while running on a non OCable i5. Either Spend the extra cash for an i5-3570k, either go for a B75 and a stock fan, am i wrong?

That motherboard can't overclock. Its not a Z77 board; its a H77 board.

Ugh. So, asking this from my stupid fucking laptop, while I wait for a reinstall that better not be in vain. Has anyone heard anything about a batch of Crucial C300s getting released with bad firmware? There's no way mine should be fucking up yet, but it just lost my bootloader.
I didn't buy it until well after they theoretically fixed all the early troubles.
To clarify, I think it's acting like some sort of SF2 trash, even though it should be a marvell controller, IIRC.

There was a history of the C300 bricking themselves for no apparent reason and suffering from performance issues such as stuttering. This was way back in 2010 however.
If you didn't back up the drive, this little program should help you reinstall programs for you.
|
Well, luckily, it's boot only, so all I should need to fix is drivers, unless I forgot something.
But yeah, I bought this thing in 2011, while the C300 was in the top price/performance range, and was highly suggested for reliability. Should have been well after the bricking issues at launch were fixed, that's why I'm so perplexed and pissed that it suddenly lost half of my windows files. Right before I went to bed last night it just froze completely, and when I rebooted it wouldn't find the bootloader, so I said fuck it until this morning cos I didn't want to wake up the kid trying to find my discs.
Well, plus side, I just edited this from my desktop, which seems to have a working SSD again. No idea why it decided to spaz out last night.
I hate when shit like this happens. Got to re-index D, reinstall a million and a half drivers, and trying to game before all these updates finish would be moronic.
And it just happened again. Fucking piece of shit.

I'm needing to replace my motherboard and CPU, looking to spend around £200 - £275
Current build: - AMD Phenom II x4 955 - Sapphire 6870 - 6GB DDR3 - 1333 1.5v Kingston Ram - 1TB HDD - 750 Watt PSU - Can't remember what my motherboard is but it's really old and is in dire need of replacement.
Can anybody recommend an Intel CPU and motherboard since it's been ages since I last updated my PC.
Edit: I was thinking of maybe an i5 2500 but I have no idea on what motherboard I should get.

It's a GEForce 9800 GT. I think I'd rather upgrade the video card rather than buying a new fan for it, any ideas on what to buy? I play games at a 1600x900 resolution. I play SC2 (which my Intel 4000 HD card actually runs amazingly, lol), Blacklight: Retribution, GTA 4, Saints Row, stuff like that. Nothing extremely graphically intensive, but stuff that still need a decent card to run. I was looking at the GTX 550 Ti though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625Based on Newegg reviews, it looks amazing. Based on Tom's Hardware reviews, it's a few tiers above what I have now and looks to be 1. a solid upgrade and 2. something that will last a long time. I wasn't able to find any benchmarking results for it on anandtech. What do you guys think? What is your power supply/budget and are you looking into playing other games? You are better off with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127687better performance, less power/heat and etc http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/536?vs=541 My bad.. I completely forgot to post such obvious stuff lol. Power supply is 650 W so that shouldn't be too much of an issue, as far as price range, anywhere from $100 to $150, maybe a little bit more if it's a really good deal. I tend to play whatever, I stick to SC2 most of the time but I pick up new games if they're really good. I don't obsess over graphics so as long as the card can run newer games without any lag on low/medium settings, I'm fine with that. Edit: I guess another thing to add is that I do want to run dual monitor at some point in the future. If I'm able to, I'm fine with just running my main monitor on the GPU and my other monitor on the integrated card, not sure if that's possible though. I think going with the one I suggested should be good enough for you, I dont see why you should spend more, its 10$ less than the 550Ti ($110 after MIR), comes with free game and as you can see in benchmarks, its better/cooler/more power efficient. and its going to be much better than what you have now, so I dont think you will be disappointed. but incase you are interested, the next price points are 6850 at $150, 6870 @ $170 and the 560ti at $200. edit: and to answer your multi display question, you will connect one monitor via HDMI and other via DVI the 550Ti you posted has 2 DVI and one mini HDMI. (still only 2 screen outputs i think)
I see. Thank you very much for the help! After looking around, I might get the GTX 560 SE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130770). It seems that across the board it beats out the 7770 HD by a little bit for only $10 or so more. It consumes more power, but with a 650 W PSU I don't really think it's something I'll have to worry about.

Phenom II X4 955 is really not that bad. Why is your motherboard in dire need of replacement?
If you're really going to upgrade, you might as well get the latest generation, an Ivy Bridge processor and 7 series chipset motherboard. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-406-IN http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-216-MS
