???? why all of a sudden?

fighting... but you went to the army yet?

flames are bad for esports.

Boxer is his hyung?

dont delete this. Kang Do kyung, Kim dong su(garimto) are gamer nerd (jerk?) kings. I cant believe gamer nerd (this word is kinda a slag.. meaning jerk nerd outcast etc) gets this much love. Gogo is much better than these fools.

The reason he retired was for the army .... ;;

He has no perserverance. If your just gona retire like that again, dont make a comeback. Learn from tossgirl;;; no passion ;;;;

wtf you talkin about... its been a while since he was commentating then went to army and came out to make the comeback as a player then retire again.

Why you talkin shit about garimto. His badass. Also wow, he transformed into a handsom guy. before he was... .

Garimto has his sights too high. At least boxer has spirit. If you look at players who quit after they do well for a bit, they want too much, but their skill doesnt match up to it and they just give up. Boxer yellow and nada at least has the tenacity to keep going.

comeback retire and then comeback again;; In between he said many things. Hard to believe this type.

last time he cameback then retired right away so meh...

I dont think his right... players these days are much better than before. Even boxer said his current lvl is much higher than before... Even in sc2 sc1 skills will transfer over. Also, theres no garantee that sc2 will be popular. Anyways like ppl above said garimto lacks spirit, dedication, drive.

garimto you talked mad shit about sc2 and now you want to be progamer again - -;;

he said on his gamer homepage that his drive for esports was gone and he talked shit about esports. Now he wants to come back to esports lol. well i like old gamers so im happy but i hope he becomes a more believable person.

garimto retires 3 times comes back 3 times.

i dont need. gtfo

one of the gamers who is all talk
------

as far as i can tell its like all mad shit talk about garimto after this lol..

Who cares if he comes back and retires so often? I guess it's an Eastern thing. Hell, look at Brett Favre, or Roger Clemens, Michael Jordan etc. Also, while SC2 'may' not and I mean may as in 1% or less (So far all the reports back from S.Korea point to SC2 being immensely popular, but I guess you would have a better perspective being from there) be popular, it sure as hell will be IMMENSELY popular outside of S.Korea. So, if he wants to become a pro again I don't see why he couldn't leave S.Korea you guys don't hold a monopoly on E-Sports.

It is kind of hilarious to talk shit (I don't actually know what he said, perhaps you can post what he said for us please) and then run back to what you just talked shit about...

Lastly, so if I hear it right in Korea and the East you might as well not pursue something unless you are going to dedicate 5-6-7+ years to it? When you know you can't compete with the heavy mechanics players after a few years there really is no point in frustrating yourself if you're not having fun.

You do know Garimto has 2 OSL's correct? I don't think he is all talk.

Anyways, thats a westerners perspective take it as you will.

Also, every sport has to have an antagonist. It'll be boring if it was all super super goody rule toting boring players.

you DO realize he was translating the Netizens?

Nope, didn't realize. Figured that was his posting style.

I think he means the players who are old now did better than the players who are young now.

Not that it's a fair comparison; they were 18 and the new kids were like 9....

lol

I'm pretty sure it was a loose/bad translation having something to do with the fact that the game [bw] has evolved so much now that all the new players don't need the strategic mind and adaption skills that the original pros had, because everyone has already figured out everything safe to do perfectly. The game is all just macro war now. Since sc2 is a new game, these types of players that dominate bw now won't have a chance with their copy cat builds because there is nothing to copy.
But like Steve suggested in his video interview, this will be short lived (a year at most imo) before they can start copying and take over again.
It wont be a year. Sc1 was going through massive meta game shifts constantly, with little really safe and defined play until the start of the macro era. Before then creativity, aggression and micro won out because no one knew the game as well as we do now. That was over half of Starcraft's history. Sure there will be people who copy builds in 2009, then 2010 and so forth, but we wont really know the game for another five years. And until we truly know the game, copy cats will only be chasing the strategical minds, they will never be running in pace with them.

It's not gonna be 5 years because RTS players already know whats up.

"In the past, I played because I loved the game, and I did not pay much attention to all the spotlight and glamor my opponents received, and just played my best because I enjoyed it. It felt like an equivalent trade to me.
But now, I don't have such thoughts anymore, but I'm getting old to just stay at the 'I-play-because-I-like-the-game' stage. So somehow it felt rather awkward."

That sounded to me, a confession that he was coming back for fame and money.

Most korean netizens are very angry because Garimto somewhat flamed the whole ESPORTS/pro-gamer scene while he was retired. He was specially bitter concerning the fact pro-gamers have to pratice a lot and "play the whole day" (his words). Fans don't forget this kind of thing easily.

I wonder if he genuinely likes SC2 or if he just think it's a good opportunity to make a comeback, since players will be on even grounds from the start.

I do not understand...don`t Korean netizents think that overworked progamers are an issue, especially in light of what Flash and Jaedong have gone through and the sleep deprivation Iloveoov has suffered? Beacuse personally, I cannot help but agree with Garimto that progamers have to practice at an inhumane rate, which causes them to burn out fast.

The responses from Korean netizents are disgraceful, to say the least. If this was a Boxer interview, I bet the replies would not have been even nearly as hostile. So much for respecting your elders, especially the grandfather of all Protoss players.

Personally, I am happy to hear that many older progamers are considering coming back for StarCraft II. For one thing, that shows that there is a lot more interest in StarCraft II in Korea then what some might lead you to believe. And for another, having older progamers join will give the early SCII pro scene a solid foundation created with the experience from the original.

It's a strategy game. Strategy SHOULD trump mechanics. In sc it doesn't. Thats a flaw. Mechanics should be important, and no where did he say they wont be a relevant factor, simply that when a new game comes out everything is up in the air, and intelligent strategy will trump mechanical precision. Over time mechanics, just like in sc1, will increase in importance. Hopefully not to the point of sc1 where mechanics is the end all be all of the game, but nevertheless.

WTH are you talking about? This game is 11 years old. At some point strategies run out because of the SAME units, similar maps, etc. People (Koreans) have found all the best builds and use it often and you're going to fault them for that? SC is now at a phase where it's like: Who can do the best build, the best? And that's where mechanics come in.

This post does not deserve a response. However, I am now responding to it, merely to say that this post does not deserve a response.

The quality of this post speaks for itself. However, I am now speaking for this post, to say that the quality of this post speaks for itself.

So, yes, this is a stupid and jerkish post. That speaks for itself. However, I am posting not to flame the creator of this post, but to ask him to please try not to make posts like this in the future.

Thank you.

Wow. The gaming world will really feel the power of progamers when SC2 comes out. All the gamers that have never really played BW will be so owned by the hardcore skilled koreans. Even the metagame of SC2 will be interesting.

That is not true becouse the ways that the game can develop are endless, it is the game where you have to react to what your opponent is doing, to control map. You can often see a bad decision done by a progamer (even trough he got all the necessery information). Chess are more limited in possible moves, they require no mechanics, and still there is a huge gap between players.
