Hey everyone, I’m really curious—what are some of the best or most intense micro moments you remember from StarCraft? Those ridiculous plays or near-impossible unit control feats that made you jump out of your seat and pray to Taeja or lord drg, I’d love to hear about those clutch unit saves/snipes, insane splits, or inhumanly fast blink micro that had you rewinding the stream just to see it again. What moments stand out to you the most, and why? Let’s talk about the craziest displays of skill you’ve witnessed!

Off the top of my head, the ByuN 3-rax reaper TvZs would have to come into play -- he used the same strategy every time, nobody else could do it, only Maru even really tried it, and they ended up having to nerf the freaking unit.

While I'm thinking along those lines, probably have to mention the Maru vs. Serral game at...was it the EWC? Y'all know the one I'm talking about, where Serral used the single burrowed infestors so well in that crazy macro game they had that they had to nerf it in the next patch even though Serral was the only one doing it.

Just on this very website Miz mentioned Leenock's insane muta split against Armani in proleague...I don't have anything else beyond general stuff like [redacted]'s zergling micro during his royal road run, MC and PartinG's force fields, and of course MKP creating the marine split. Maybe the most iconic "micro game" would be the Squirtle-MVP GSL game 7 that started with a proxy 2-rax and came down to some absolutely insane mini-battles to decide the whole thing.

Oh, almost forgot my favorite ever! HoTS-era Maru countering colossus with jaw-dropping Marauder/Medivac micro instead of deigning to use Vikings.

First game that comes to mind is featuring Marineking, from about a decade ago:

Oh yes, those were beautiful!

I remember Day[9] was casting I think it was MLG and Scarlett had clutch burrow banes that won her the game vs I think Bomber. That felt incredible at the time.

I can't remember what game that was, but there was one when a recently resurfacing Parting did hilariously good prism colossus micro, almost styling on his opponent.

Maru vs lurkers, I've rewatched this probably 15 times and still have no idea how he won that engagement

Also this blew my mind back in the day

Not too forget PartinG turning the game into art

A single moment? I'm having an extremely tough time coming up with anything other than THAT muta split. If we are talking something with a bit more "duration", MKP's showcasing of THE micro technique that defined the entire game's TvZ to this very day would be one. And whoever that invented Prism-Templar drop, was it PartinG or Trap?

i recall Tasteless saying SjoW was "Macgyver with Starcraft Units" during a big MLG run that he had. SO much cool stuff from that guy.

Not the craziest micro, but one of my favorite "okay the other guy has no fucking chance" moments in SC2 was when Maru casually 1v1'd Stats' Adept with a Reaper while doing all of his early-game stuff.

Also not the 'craziest' micro, but herO's game one against DRG at IEM Singapore was my favorite 'Protoss is fucking bullshit' performance.

In more recent vintage, Clem's pick-up/drop micro against MaxPax to make Harstem eat his words was the best combination of funny + insane micro:

It may not be the most insane clip by today's standards, but this was the first sc2 series i watched live and this micro moment sold SC2 to me completely.

Loving this thread, keep em coming lads

Here's my contribution, I still think it's very cool considering the amount of time the game had been out back then

Not very micro intensive from todays perspective but back then it was unthinkable that gateway units win vs stim bio like that :D

Going to take some time to find and clip some of these but definitely a few from the Maru dropping on Colossus days.

Also of course Byun has tons of great ones. Maybe not a super sick clip by modern standards either but Byun really was one of the first guys I remember making target firing banes a legit strat.

In terms of skillful micro it's not the greatest, but in terms of absolute sweat-inducing intensity nothing has ever topped this.

I saw a recent clip where Clem reflex dodged a disruptor coming out of the fog of war into a clump of bio and it didn’t hit a single unit.

That was pretty insane and if anyone can recall where it was from definitely worth a post!

A lot of Maru clips and for good reason. I think what sets his highlight reel apart from many is he’s not merely excelling at a level higher than his peers, he’s doing stuff other people aren’t even attempting.

No vikings versus colossus, killing an adept with a single reaper, stuff like that really stands out. And it gets harder and harder to stand out over time.

Not a single moment, perhaps not as clean as some have shown since, but man HerO’s micro in this for multiple minutes straight, in one of my all-time favourite bonkers games. My ‘clip’ as it were. Also I do think HerO of the Liquid variety was a hell of a talent and pretty underrated these days, and Jaedong’s SC2 career was actually pretty dang good! If I was to be unkind perhaps ‘Jaekong’ should have been his nick by the end.

What a crazy game haha I had totally forgotten this so assumed Naniwa had won it after he held his main... then cut to him sending stalkers across the map before taking out the proxy pylon lmao like "ok so its one of these games"

The reason he was the first person to do so was because sniping slow banes off creep wasn't a thing in wol/hots. It was only in Lotv that the tech timings for Z and T lined up to allow this interaction.

Nah it’s not really advantageous for that, manual a-clicks or right clicks there.

Mb Maru did that too, but the thing he would always do is neglect ghosts and simoly outpace, outmicro storm. I rly have to thank maru for all the free ladder points I acrued from taking adv. Of terrans thinking they can play like maru and simply chosen to eat my storms that I would aways get early on, because they play so one dimensionally.
