I mean, sure maybe it will Da Best gaem evAR, but this is all speculation (or dreaming) as this point. It might as well fail completely as a game. Add to that that it is not a established franchise with insane amount of money to develop and keep maintaining. Plus, even if it IS good, maybe it will still not be succesful (some of the best games ever made never got the fanbase it deserved).
Im just sick of people letting themselves overhyping stuff again and again. You are only building yourself more up for disappointment. Maybe just be cautious optimistic and see what they deliver when it is ready.

I agree with you. I know people want there to be a new SC-like RTS that is widely popular, but I think the reality is that the viability of an esport and the quality of a game are sort of independent. Even if the game is a lot of fun, it needs to be accessible and exciting to watch for it to even be a good esport. There is a reason SC2's scene faded, and it's not because the game wasn't a good game...
And don't forget that it's a small studio and not Blizzard or Riot backing it. They probably will never be able to bankroll tournaments the way Blizz & Riot do / used to. That may not be necessary, but I think it makes a big difference for elevating an esport from indie scene (Smash / Broodwar now) to Premiere Esport (CSGO, Valorant, LoL, Dota).

i couldn't agree more.
we don't even know for certain if Stormgate will be similar enough to Starcraft to be a proper spiritual successor.
we saw what happened to the Warcraft 3 pros that tried to make it in Starcraft, early on. we also can see what it's like when games get forced into being a tier 1 esport.
i would rather be pleasantly surprised and watch the game grow into it's own than force it to be something it's not.

I am as pessimistic about Stormgate as you are, I just made a Voldemort joke 
It seems like they're trying to make everything at once. It's not StarCraft 3 but it kind of is, and it has the skillcap of BroodWar while also being super accessible to new players? Just seems kind of unrealistic to me... I do want it to succeed though.

A friend of mine introduced me to Tetris tournaments. They don't hand out huge prizes in the Tetris scene. The players are amateurs who are in it for the passion. I had a blast watching Tetris tournaments. Similarly, I will still be watching StarCraft: Brood War and StarCraft II when nobody is making a living off of it.
