Rapidly learn the architecture of systems to predict how changes can impact customers and infrastructure It sounds to me like Activision has realized they might have gutted the Classic Games teams a little bit too aggressively and now they really need to plug the holes. This means that the games we are such huge fans of will have more support than we expected. Meaning more than zero support.

This is not a "classic/standard" developer position where they'll make changes in the sense of - new gameplay features, balance patches, etc. This is a Senior Reliability Engineer position where your job is to keep the servers/infrastructure alive and find ways to optimize it (as written in JD). Also one person for at least 4 games is perfectly fine. There's barely anything to do if it was just "keeping 1 game's infrastructure" alive kind of job.

I was well aware that this Position is mostly about bug fixes. I do atmitt, that I habe no idear about it Jobs and Job Titels though, so I gues sorry for writing developer there. I m not expecting any Balance overhouls out of this either. We re never getting any more than "voids nie Cost 15 more minerals" or "queens now have 10 less max energy. Blizz didn t do any Major changes in the last few years, because they tried to find a place of Balance, that is good enough to stay here without any Big changes. There will never come new abilities, new upgrades, complete redisigns of units or even complete new units. I know this is a maintainance Mode Position. I m just hoping for Bug fixes Map rotations And most importantly funding for ESL and GSL tournaments

Hopefully the shareholders do not find out about this gross waste of potential revenue.

And they write it with standard startup-style language that basically says, "Look. You're going to be the only person driving this bus. And it's going to be on you to figure out how to fix the bus as you go and argue with corporate for the resources you need." If they find the person that this posting seems to be describing, it's exactly the kind of person you'd want to min/max reliable support of your aging infrastructure. Only a 'true believer' could do this, and the posting is designed to scare away everyone who isn't that.

Any place that was a properly run well oiled machine never would take a chance on a guy like me with no experience.

That means in most cases that this does not cover bugfixes unless required for network stability. Just making sure the servers are running fine and all related distributed systems which are required for the games online infrastructure.

Sometimes big companies layoff jobs and then rehire them not as a mistake but because it is cheaper to hire ppl with less experience who are willing to work for less. Often times they are also consolidating multiple positions into one or something along those lines. Cautious Optimism is the most sensable reaction to this as the teams have clearly been under supported.
