Major changes include a giant update of the Map Editor, the addition of a new "prestige" system for co-op mode that adds new depth of gameplay, new achievements for single-player campaigns, the addition of two new announcers (White-Ra and Stone), and more!
New custom map mode to let people build campaigns, all of the recently posted editor stuff, achievements, announcers, lobby options, bug fixes, co-op balance and design pass, enormous new co-op features :D
Sounds like there is more stuff coming for 5.0 soon too, e.g. talk of a new co-op hero release and blizzard devs on episode 100 of the pylon show to unveil and discuss some stuff.
I know there's not many co-op fans on TL (or at least not many who post), but I'm glad they're putting such a huge content patch out for co-op mode. Now, crossing my fingers for the rumored War3 hero leaks to be real

Oh wow. That could pull A LOT of casuals. That would be cool.

Yeah.
The 5.0 / editor stuff should be impactful for other stuff too, even ranked multiplayer, but a lot of that has been discussed already in the editor thread. The stuff that they've improved in the engine is interesting
cool to see them supporting co-op so much. i think people often forget that such a huge number of the remaining sc2 players are people who put time into that mode. even tho i generally only play ranked, i actually played around with co op a bit and it's a good way to pass 10-20 minutes if you need to do something else soon but dont wanna risk losing a ranked game or something. no stress, and enjoyable overall - if you haven't try getting a character to lvl 15 and have fun with it

AFAIK Coop is the most played game mode in all of SC2 for a couple of years now. So it just makes sense. It s also way more casual and beginner friendly. I played it quite a lot with my brother, when I introduced him to SC2.
Obviously, SC2 is too violent. Casuals aren t interested by violence, you can't bear a game if your army disappear in 2 seconds and for god sake, long games are very compatible with Esport at the moment you reduce BO5 to BO3 and so on (playing BO1)... The game has to be reworked to keep the pro scene alive because the base quality players is decreasing : definetly commintment in fights are too fast and in a certain way, it s easy to do :
reduce game speed in fast (instead of very fast) while decreasing timers for buildings, upgrades and spells.

A lot of people play co op, but you shouldnt say its the most popular mode if you dont have numbers and as far as I know there just are not any on that mode. On june 17th there were 300k ranked 1v1 games played that day, and thats just the 1v1 section (rankedftw) so it wouldnt be surprising if versus is the most popular mode. But adding new content for co-op for sure is healthy for the game overall caters to another audience as well

They said it was the most popular mode during an interview a few years back. It was during blizzcon, I'm sure someone can find it.
IDD I think a lot of people around here are probably in a 1v1 ranked bubble. The community is actually huge, i've never seen so many people worldwide swarming the PTR to test changes :D

the last time i spent hours talking with people about patch notes was 2015. The new map capabilities alone are really cool (allowing for 1v1 competitive maps with up to 15 levels instead of being hard capped at 3, for example)!

I always thought that 1v1 is the real game, and the rest is some kind of gimmick.
I can personally attest to this and I think it comes down to what you associate a game with generally. This is a weirdcomparison, but I remember hearing and being surprised years and years ago that like an overwhelming majority of Call of Duty players played just the campaign and not the multiplayer shenadigans it's most "known" for. I think because Starcraft as a franchise is so fundamentally dependent on the competitive side of itself, the other modes that many people more invested (including myself) don't really care for go under the radar. With that said I am very surprised about the fact that co-op specifically is the most played gamemode in SC2, thought it would have been the campaign or some custom map-related stuff if not 1v1.
I wonder if the people who just play co-op still tune into the tournament streams for DreamHacks and GSLs? Because (this is mega confirmation bias) I see a lot of reddit threads made about how people have watched a ton and played against AI but ranked seems like too big a mountain to climb.
Co-op is fun! I spend nearly all my SC2 time on ranked 1v1, but when I first came back after a multi-year hiatus, it was a fun way to get back into the mechanics. I've also played plenty of co-op with friends who are just barely getting into the game or are just ultra-casual.
What is this about 15 levels on 1v1 maps? 15 topographic levels? Somebody is going to make a Dante's circles of hell map and it's going to be ridiculous.

Can someone tell me where I can see the new achievements that were supposed to be added to every missions of every campaign? I might be blind, but I've not been able to see them, I did a mission as well in case they would only appear after doing the mission but no, nothing. Thank you

In the Achievements menu in your Profile, there should be a category for 10th Anniversary, with subcategories in there for each campaign.
Have they broken the war chest? I noticed i hadn't got exp from the last couple games (i hadn't finished the second phase yet) and upon looking for it, it seems to be entirely gone from the UI. It's supposed to be running for 2 more months, last phase wasn't scheduled to be unlocked yet
So what unanounced changes do we got?
I got really hyped up for the show at 2am and then they announced nothing lol
----
edit: I didn't change anything, but an hour later the war chest seems to exist again. Not sure what happened there! I definitely have an exp hole cause i should be maxed already but it works fine now

It works really unintuitively and i would say that nobody has ever lost a game of sc2 because they were 1 second late with making their first worker. It's just really obnoxious.

I too believe it's going to completely change the meta in all matchups
It's amazing that a 10 year old game is receiving such a huge update. This means Blizzard still cares about the franchise and that there are developers still passionate about the project. Improvements to co-op and custom/arcade games should help even more in keeping the game alive for many years to come. Thank you Blizzard!

unintuitive/obnoxious how? It's a 3-2-1-GO countdown timer, extremely simple and present in a wide variety of games going back decades.
It has annoyed me every game for 10 years that the load screen could take 5 seconds or 200 seconds and there was no way to tell which it would be until after the game clock has already started. Sure, usually it would take 20 - but it's entirely at the mercy of the other person's PC who is likely using a slower CPU and storage drive. Feels dumb to be staring at the screen waiting to instantly start your worker when the game sometimes just doesn't start for a really long time. A lot of people don't like giving up a handful of seconds at the start of the game, even if you personally feel that it's inconsequential to gameplay.
Many other esport games from multiple genres load players in and then do a countdown before actually starting the game to ensure that the game has loaded properly and everybody knows when to expect the start of play. If you're still on the load screen, the game won't start any moment with zero warning after a random amount of time. If you're loaded and see a timer, you know exactly how long until the game is live.
I like the new countdown a lot. But I don't think it makes any sense to have the pre-loading screen countdown too. That should just be a sound announcing that the game is going to load, and then when the game is actually ready we get the 3-2-1.

I think the pre loading screen countdown is there to pull people's attention back if they're alt-tabbing or something. Again probably not a concern for most people, but say you check your phone or something when queueing for a game the pre-loading screen countdown with its audio will jerk your attention back to the right screen/window.

The game does not start immediately after 1-GO. There's an awkward pause there before it which is awful.
edit: Also personally i'd rather go without a giant flashing 3-2-1 before every game.

Nope. Looked like the Pylon Show overhyped something that the devs never intended to reveal. Artosis looked a tad confused by it as well. He asked about what to expect in the future and the 2 devs simply said "more StarCraft 2."

Yeah, it definitely hiccups the start as currently implemented. I sit there spamming on my nexus to try to get the worker to start, and it won't let me select the nexus until the timer reads 0:02...super annoying. I also do not like the loud volume and huge numbers.
I love the concept of the timer. I just want it smaller/cleaner, quieter, and to actually allow gameplay to start at exactly 0:00.
Can anyone confirm if the "Contract Saviors" (Mobius Core map, Raynor campaign) achievement is broken? I swear I'm only training SCVs, medivacs, and Mercs.
I've tried beating it without rescuing any other units. I've tried beating it without making bunkers. Not really sure what else to try. No idea why it's not registering. Maybe you can't build anything at all, no depots even??

Anyone else having trouble playing ranked today? It keeps telling me "You cannot enter this matchmaking queue because you do not meet the requirements."
I heard that a flying Terran command center can load another command center, and the "loaded command center" just disappear from that location but still count on the map.

Not only that, you can also load a bunker full of marines and fly around with your CC shooting things.

I actually enjoy the timer because in the beginning I would have some lag sometimes in the beginning and this resolved it, also I enjoy the few seconds to collect yourself before it jumps into the game, I think it was a good change overall.

The countdown is annoying as hell. It would make sense to have it before the game screen loads or as an e-sport overlay. But every single game, and every single replay?

Not sure what the issue is with the timer, not that the game generally takes ages to load. Especially when people had 10+ year old rigs in the olden days though you could be staring at the pre-match screen for ages.
I guess I was used to it in BW too, but I always liked the feature. Be you observing or playing you can get your stretching and all done and settle into your game face when the timer starts going.
I like the countdown somehow. Maybe it doesn't need to be that big and in the face, but the idea of it suits me well. I never liked having to spam the worker hotkey already on the loading screen without being sure when exactly the game will start.

It is also misplaced, it should be over your CC.
the countdown timer i feel like has been a request since early WoL. You no longer have to guess when the game actually starts. It does seem strange that replays have it though.

Thanks for confirming that it's broken. I've beaten it so many times, but still haven't gotten it. I thought it must've been a bug.
