Haven't seen this being posted before, so.
Guess they're from that Nazzul kid again

So we finally get to see the mysterious Star Relic, tho not much detail can be seen from that tiny little icon.

BTW, the Mothership looks pretty nice in pink;)

Oh, and does this suggest bliz won't be releasing any info on Zerg and Terran anytime before August?

Hmm, the Observer looks kinda like a bug. Star Relic looks interesting. Seems like a mechanical spellcaster, possibly flying?

You see their Reaver description? The "new" version of the Reaver drop is...droping the Reaver in the middle of an enemy's workers. Amazing PCGamer.

Not much knew information other than the Star Relic. =(

If you read it again, you'll see that they say the Old version of the reaver drop was to drop it in a mineral line while the new one incorperates the phase prism

It's pretty good article still, since it's a magazine.

I'd love to have one of those . Thanks for the scans!

'wait so sc2 is going to have the dark templar?'

explain to me where you got the idea it doesn't? (where it says dark templars made the new teleporting dragoon things, it doesn't say they'll be taking out DT's... from what i read it looks like the new carrier-type unit is also of the DT faction..)

I'm under the impression there won't be anymore DTs. I thought I read somewhere, can't remember now exactly, that DTs are joining the rest of the Protoss faction. In the campaign mission, they broke off from Aiur and were on there own but has decided to rejoin the remaining forces. I wish I could remember where but maybe this will remind someone else. Or I could be absolutely wrong.

When PC Gamer gave BW a mediocre review I wrote a complaint, they published letter approx Feb/Mar '99 but just responded to me that different games appeal to different people and they didn't think it was anything special at all..

hehehehe huge lazer beam from star relic seem in bottommost pic

but altogether sounds pretty cool, and now we know how Warp In really works.
So apparently in the original gameplay demo they cheated and sped up the warp in time just to demo it (though he really should have told us that cus to us it looked instantaneous). I like how it works better than how people were speculating, instantly warping in anywhere in pylon power sounds overpowered no matter how you look at it (when combined with phase prisms).

I just hope scarabs aren't as retarded as before, and units (especially reavers) wont run in past their max firing range to attack a target

Its not Blizzard's obligation to tell you anything Zelniq. This is how they work with teasers. They show you a video - people speculate and it draws attention. To just say "this is how something X works" makes for lots of interest in the beginning and then it dies down. We're still talking about it a month later off 1 announcement and 2 videos. Thats fantastic PR.

That's why I posted about it when they released the HQ version, there were enough clues already that the warp in ain't gonna be instantenious, the animation itself looked sped up a lot(even without comparing it to the mothership warp in animation), there was a minimap ping when the warp in finished(which was totally pointless to have if it was that fast), the resources were taken when the units started to warp in and the units clearly started with minimum hp/shield just like buildings(this can easily be seen when the first stalker is warped in).
I'll call Nada.

That's a good point, tho I wonder if giving your audience the wrong impression is considered good PR.. I mean, they gave a disclaimer saying the protoss Mothership was stronger and kept getting energy/shields for demo purposes only, otherwise people would naturally think the mothership is incredibly strong

edit: to lololol: I see, so there were clues that I just missed.. ok then nevermind

Is it just me or doesn't it seem like they're overdoing it? I mean like forcing all these new hard counter units that hardly even makes sense..

Bring back more normal movers and shooters for some fast paced micro-oriented tactical combat.

Gotta agree on that overdefined hard counter thing :< Give more middle ways for a more dynamic game!
Although I gotta say I love the star relic 'bomb' idea, it seems like a timered irradiate so get those units out of your group before they blow up! Should make for some hectic battles
Also there still seem to be *some* run & gun units, and (I think it was Chris Metzen) said they're shifting from the 'every unit has 5 abilities' model they used for w3 back to the 'mover and shooter' thing.

But who knows, maybe they want toss, the 'technologically advanced race', to have all these quirks and hard counters and give zerg for example more of the usual walking, flying and firing units? Just speculating!

Honestly, go back to Bethesdas forum..

Pre alpha doesn't mean that they're gonna skip 50+ percent of the units so far in therms of artwork, functionality and game concepts, visual arts etc..

The real question is, why give more then a flancing fuck about estetics. Its a bonus, it doesn't matter shit for gameplay which is where its at.

You cant judge a game in quality except on gameplay, which noone knows jack shit about. So pretty please, with sugar on top, why give a shit.

p.s. lasers are energy weapons.

Good post and I totally agree, as usual blizz PR is brilliant about hyping things and feeding us just enough.

I think the people are complaining about the lasers is that its just a big ass beam of "blue" from a lot of the protoss units, it gets confusing...compared to persay the dragoon shooting a ball?

I can click it once to open it up further, else just save them to disc and open them in a viewer where you can zoom at leisure. It's worth the peek .

Soul Hunters are like exactly what one guy was suggesting in some other thread about Protoss collecting bodies for resource or something. What a coincidence.

Look at HT they are so crazy now They have a "freeze" move and a relic upgrade and shit.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Star Relic:

Definitely the Arbiter upgrade/replacement. [edited]. Blizzard gives at least one flying caster per race. The old arbiter cloak field that also cloaks buildings. Interesting.

It must fly too just like an arbiter... it's floating over a planet in the picture (the two top right ships) if you ask me.

Doesn't look half as cool as the Arbiter... maybe this model will change to have SOME resemblance to the cool old flying caster.

This fusion beam sounds nice... I wonder just how slow it is. Well, it can't be a flying reaver... they threw that idea out with the valk in the BW alpha. Too powerful. So how will this fusion beam work? Similar to the WarpRay i guess... slow and wasted against tiny units. Will the explosion be the same regardless of what it hits? Probably so if it's a spell. Is this yet another supply depot killer? Interesting. Maybe a CC killer! Toss finally gets a "clean" way to take out a floating/running CC without going carriers or sacrificing 10 goons to tank fire. Too bad it's at the end of the tech tree. Oh right... the Warp Ray. Might work.

High Templar force field spell:

1. Awesome. New spells rock.

2. Is it just like stasis, but works on buildings too? Takes the place of stasis and disrupt web? If that's the case, as cool as it is I'm worried because even on a flying unit you didn't see disrupt web usable in most games. And stasis was also equally useful only with it on a flying unit. On a land unit, it will be much harder to use it effectively on offense unless it has ungodly range (I assure you it will not). I'm thinking vs Terran here.

3. If I'm right on #2, Sounds like it'll be a mostly defensive spell vs zergling swarms (create bottleneck) and the like... ok, but I want it to be as useful as disrupt web but in a much more techable unit (the high templar). Well, maybe it'll be decent vs Zerg and Protoss, but not vs Terran. Of coure that is where Protoss need the anti-siege weapon/anti-super defense stuff-- in SC1 at least.

4. If I'm wrong on #2 Vs. Terran, and I hope I am, maybe it will be used to take out more frequently(likely?) used bunkers and then the immortals will be able to get close enough to take out the tanks. I dunno. If marines take the place of vultures in SC2 (that's the impression so far, but could be totally wrong) then maybe bunkers will be used more to avoid psi storm.

5. Will we still see hallucination???! I hope so... it doesn't hurt to have more options, and I don't see it being overpowered as it was barely used competitively in SC1. More not that powerful options is fun.

6. While I'm at it, bring back the old SC beta attack on casters! High templar want that 15(?) concussive range attack back! It makes them actually usable and makes them AVOID walking into the melee with big battles b/c they stop and fire at a distance instead of walking in with your control group. Also makes them not such a huge waste when they are at 70 mana and the fight is going to be over with in 4 seconds. 15 concussive isn't much, but think of it like the probe + zealot thing vs zerglins... it's one less attack the zealots need to make to kill certain units.

7. Hell, let's see a cheap spell that's good vs. one unit on the High Templar if he can't have an attack. It's just a joke when someone can use a single lowly probe to chase away the mighty High Templar or force him to use a 75 mana storm on the probe and nearly kill himself.

Might work.

Well if that is the star relic, then WHAT IS CIRCLED IN RED (below). Is it a dark templar? I think the high templars are circled in green.....

The guy in the red circle is a high templar, just from the side profile. If you watch the movie you'll see as they pan the camera, he looks exactly like the other templar in green circles. They all have the flying hair/clothing thingies. Same as in the art trailer.

One more thing. If you look at the new Blizzard bnet guy's icon, it seems to be a high templar... with THREE different casting animations. yeah, we should have at least three spells for our High Templar. Good.

Wrong, they said before that units will have multiple animations for moving and casting, you can clearly see that the phase prisms have multiple animtions to form a pylon, it has NOTHING to do with the number of spells, they just use a random animation, so the armies don't look like they are just a bunch of clones.
Most speculation comes from people not reading even the basic info provided.

Well I must have missed this so-called BASIC info. Where is it (link)? I saw plenty of duplicate animations for attacks. But I saw the SAME animation for psi storm each time it was cast in the two movies. And isn't that the same animation as the current Psi Storm? Coincidence? Maybe. But in the past companies neglect caster animations since there aren't a million of them and their spells are already flashy. They concentrate on eye candy for repetitive items like 100 zealots all attacking the same way. And the DnD basis for "magic" is that you have to move a certain way or say the exact words, or whatever. So it would make way more sense to have a different animation for each type of spell.

As a matter of fact, I still don't see any animation for the shield spell cast by the templar in the newer movie. Again, this makes me believe one animation per spell.

Variety in the casting animations. Expected? Certainly not. BASIC info?... I doubt it.

Show me this set in stone quote by Pardo, and I'll shut up. Either way, lose the attitude.

More reavers... still awkward looking from those angles. Obviously tough to do 3-d sections that move the right way. Hope they get it right.

Hero units?! Surely this is for single player only, so I'm not worired. See hero unit reference in last paragraph or two:

Correct, but only in so far as that you could warp newly built units in there not already existing ones using that way.

Hmm but it says "Hero units won't require nearly as much attention or be as important as they are in WCIII" i interpret that as there will infact be Heroes in SC2 but they won't have such a big impact on the game as in WC3..

Oh well, maybe i'm just interpreting it wrong

Hmm you are correct, that is contrary to whats been said before though. Guess we'll see ;o. Maybe the mothership is a hero unit, who knows .

Hope they leave it out though, its a terrible concept that kills the dynamic of a RTS. Only game where I dont mind it is DoW.

But by then you should have Phase Prisms anyway, so you wont even need to do that.

Yea just got the August issue, Page 20.

Basically nothing we didnt already know.

The Star relic is the enhanced version of the arbiter. It will even be able to cloak buildings and it fires a laster than gradually damages a target it will explode and cause damage to anything around it.

Observer has a new look etc.

It also says the Map Editor will be more powerful than the WCIII version and a novice will be able to create a full map in 15 minutes.

The Protoss Gateway will have an upgrade which will allow them to build a unit anywhere on the map. But it will gradually materialize and will be completely defenseless until finished and if the pylon is destroyed midway through the unit is lost.

The Tempest is the dark version of the Carrier BUT has shields that activate only when attacked from the ground, it has no air defense at all.

The Mothership will also have the ability to generate a "mini black hole" to suck units into oblivion.

I don't understand how you have the August issue on June 19th. Does this mean the video was in fact not leaked and the magazine was delivered on schedule?

Yup but if there are in multiplayer my scepticism increases by a gazillion. Only hero unit I anticipate on seeing or anything remotely close is the Mothership unit for the protoss.
