Using the data from aligulac, I made a comprehensive visualization of SC2 player's ELO score and prize money won.
Now please don't tell me this has been done before... I sure couldnt find anything like it
---------
edit: like many people already spotted, the prize money graph has two bugs: - herO is added to HerO (i used excel to prepare the data, and its not case sensitive) - one time, it displays the total for HerO (and herO) and then jumps back to the correct value. this is because some tournaments in the aligulac dataset did not have a date. one of those was in the prize money stat and won by herO (master's coliseum 2). i added the date, but i forgot to re-sort the table, so it is at the end of the table, and when that value gets called it shows lifetime total for herO and HerO combined
the ELO graph is unaffected, since I only took players who went into the top10 at any point, and herO doesnt qualify for that
i added this info to the video description (which nobody ever reads
A visual history of 10 years of SC2 in 8.5 min. Amazing. I will share it with my casual fan friends who were asking about SC2 history and the names of past greats.
Also, amazing to see the dominant runs of some past legends, INnoVation basically had the run up, peak, and sustained delta from the pack of a great player at least three times. Taeja had a few nice streaks; I didn't realize he was so head-and-shoulders above his peers for some decent time periods.
Yeah this was really cool. I might rewatch later for the prize money bar graph, but the ELO plot was significantly more interesting to me. Thanks oodles for putting it together <3

Having elo and prize money and tournaments all at once was a bit distracting, but still an interesting visualization. Stuff like ByuN becoming number one entirely off of online events shows the limitation of rating systems when matches between players are so non-uniform.

it's the two H/herO's combined LOL
LOL I was going to say that. I was like I'm pretty sure that herO earned more than HerO. Then I checked their earnings and sure enough the total given in the video was the sum of both of them.
Did Aligulac change algorythm after 2014? Top MMR were stable around 2000-2100 for almost four year, then skyrocketed(even factoring in elo inflation, it seems me weird at a glance).
This video is the definition of why I always correct people who misspell HerO and herO. It's legit gotten to the point where people forget/don't even know HerO was a different player and now an entire data visualization is giving out misleading information to perpetuate it.

Haha that's why! I was like, damn herO made a lot of money

me too! thats why i decided to start my own channel doing those
there are already a couple of channels on youtube that do those that you can check out: abacaba (the best! check out their video about chess players ELO) wawamustats theranker rankingtheworld etc...
however, most of them have a couple of downsides, which i think i can improve upon: - they mostly do racing bar charts, which have the downside that you never see the past (much easier to do with existing tools, thats why) - they mostly do the same stuff over and over, like GDP, and rarely combine stats or even use stuff thats actually meaningful (like GDP per capita instead of GDP
on my new channel I'm trying to do racing line charts mostly, which are much better suited for that kind of data imho... bar charts are much easier to do with the existing tools, thats why so many people on youtube do them

The rise of games like SC2, LoL and Dota 2 is insane! CS is splitted into multiple versions and should combined be further up I guess Interesting stuff
