Historic trends remained in unbroken on day one of the GSL Code S playoffs, as Dark won his seventh consecutive series versus Bunny while Rogue suffered his eighth straight Code S quarterfinal defeat in a match against Classic.
Though Dark said that he had worried about Bunny and his strong TvZ, such fears could only seem frivolous as he won in a 3-0 sweep. Games one and two saw Dark safely snowball leads gained through early roach-ravager attacks, while game three was won with patient and precise dismantling of Bunny's mech.
In the other quarterfinal match of the day, Classic eked out a narrow 3-2 victory that saw him bring a different build in every single game. The results were mixed—a cannon-rush into proxy-robo went exactly as planned, but an immortal-archon drop with proxied shield batteries failed miserably. Classic's creativity prevailed in the end, with his game five psionic storm drop catching Rogue completely off-guard. Heavy drone damage took the force out of Rogue's roach-ravager attack, allowing Classic to easily defend and close-out the series.
The RO8 will resume on Saturday, Mar 30 4:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) with Maru vs Dear and Trap vs TY.
Awesome performance by Classic, especially with starting the game with a cheese that caught Rogue off-guard as well as the superb storm drops that prevented Rogue from going to hydra tech. I think he has a chance to win against Dark since he did lose to Classic at some point.
Got completely rolled on this one. Dark looking beautifully dangerous versus Terran. Classic looking really good also. His adept and oracle control was looking amazing. And storm drops turned me into a serious fan. It's going to be really interesting to see what Dark pulls out against him.
Couldn't be more happy with the results. Probably Rogue fans are mad and I understand that. Even I'm not a Rogue fan, in general he is still a macro beast, but what Classic did yesterday was legendary. And that was not some cheep cheese on the table. Actually the way Rogue lost I experience this negative routine with Dark and TY who statistically are the greatest late game beasts and they always fail before the end and grab the trophy. After some top 1 matches against Maru back in 2015 in Proleague and Starleague, this is definitely my next favorite match in Classic's career and for sure the best game in this Code S season.
did anyone notice that rogue and classic seemed to be beefing pretty hard yesterday?
before the match rogue said that classic should just go to the military already, and that he'd end his career early. when classic won he didnt shake rogue's hand
Rogue was dead as soon as Dark won his series against Bunny and Artosis said "Dark advances to Ro4 to play Rogue because let me tell you, there isn't even a chance that Rogue loses to Classic".
Some curses are stronger than others, the Artosis one definitely stands at the top.
The forces of the universe could not be mended enough for Rogue to break his ro8 curse and for Classic and Dark not to meet in the semifinals.
Excited for the semis, maybe it's finally time for Dark to win a championship! So far this year has been all but a giant redemption arc for all the ex-SKT members
The transition of Rogue is mind boggling to me... He was known to be a trickster, a Jinair clown pulling out gimmicky builds left and right. But if the gimmicks werent successful, he always lost in serious games. And now he is the one that the players need to pull out gimmicky cheese and weird play, because he would completely destroy them in a standard macro game.
I like how he evolved as a player and it brought him a lot of success, he is considered to be one of the best players in the world. But sometimes he should just try to go back to being the trickster. From the first map it was obvious what Classic game plan will be. Rogue should have adjusted his play and just went for proxy hatch, nexus blocks, or nydus play. That would have shaken Classic. Instead he just waited and gave the opponent all the initiative.
I am sad but he needs to learn from this and stop losing to worse players like this...

I hope Artosis will confidently proclaim that Classic have no chance at beating Dark. I would love to see Classic in the grand final.

12 drones or so. Nothing big, certainly not legendary for my taste. Normal storm drop
Yeah, nothing big, only won Classic the game and thus the series and his spot to ro4
And thus being legendary? We had so many storm drops in the past why this one has to be legendary? And I am ignoring the beta times of storm drop meta with KA
I'm not denying it was a good move, but not legendary FFS.

Lol no one is saying it was legendary, but you were massively downplaying it calling it "nothing big" like it was just a fancy inconsequential harass that happened to kill a bunch drones that were quickly replaced. It got Classic a decisive advantage and forced Rogue to all-in a 3 base protoss off 49 drones. If Classic did this 5 minutes later, it wouldn't matter that much, but it was perfectly timed and executed to win the game there and then

Go back to my original post and read the 2 posts above me.
You need to read it in the way it was written WITH the previous post in mind.
I'm not downplaying the effect nor the move. It was just a storm drop. We haven't seem them recently, but in HotS/WoL 2 base storm drop occured here and there and did similar damage to the economy. Yes, it was just a successful storm drop to me, nothing more.

Man I miss KA. I mean, I don’t think it can be defended from a balance perspective; but when Parting first figured out KA his GSL run was epic. Those games were so nuts to watch.

Yeah I'm not sure I've seen a storm drop literally grab the win in a bo5 series in a clutch situation for the ro8 @ gsl... especially given it's not even remotely in the meta at present - I think this was pretty ballsy and impressive. Grats to classic on the well earned win.

Yeah, I agreed too. I thought he underestimated his opponents a lot whenever he faced them during ro.8 GSL.
He already got several chances via Neeb and Classic since the ZvP was his strongest match-up among all.
AWESOME ROGUE LOST!!!! thats what you get for eliminating soo from GSL this season and at blizzcon in 2017!!!!! hope you never get over the RO8 curse!!!

Classic is arguably as good as rogue is. Especially historically. Chin has been one of the top protosses since the start of hots, won a gsl. Rogue has been good for like a year and cant break his ro8 gsl curse.

Classic is the most underrated player, ever. I will repeat this over and over again. One of the most forgotten GSL champions, top Protoss for his whole career and yet nobody brings him up, everybody talks about Stats/sOs/herO/Rain/Parting(the latter 2 when they were at the top in SC2). Classic is top Protoss, currently probably right after Stats. And it breaks my Protoss heart that he's so undervalued But maybe that's my inner fangirl

They undervalue him in casts all the time and act like hes some 3rd tier scrub. It really irks me. Been a top toss for years and they still act shocked when he wins matches a lot of the time

Classic is usually underrated (like most protoss players are to be honest) but I dont think he's in the same league as the Protoss best of the best - he's almost there but not quite. His peak was a while ago and while it was good, it wasnt as impressive as the peaks of stats/sos/her0/rain/zest/parting etc
Classic is rock solid and very talented, but to me, he doesnt have that final gear that makes a player truly dangerous. His mechanics are elite but his late game isnt very impressive, which separates him from the other top protoss players (with the exception of sos, who is legendary for his unique reasons)
combine all those facts with the fact that Protoss is lowkey underpowered and inconsistent recently, and you have people writing a talented guy like Classic off as your run-of-the-mill pro SC2 player who is just fodder for fan favorites like rogue, dark, maru, etc
it still doesnt mean that you should ever write a world class player like him off as guaranteed to lose like a lot of people do. I'm glad he beat rogue, hopefully he'll do the same to dark
