This thread will remain open for now, but we will keep a close eye on it. If it turns to shit, then we won't hesitate to kill it. |

That's different. If he was a caster or host, i would kind of understand a ban, as you are employed by the organizer. and you could argue that he is employed by wcs as he gets paid by them if he wins games. and he represents them when he is on their stage.

I never thought I'd see people defending someone saying "korean women must die" using racial slurs, but jeez here we are

"It's not a big deal" to your privileged self.
Sexism, racism, hate speech, toxic aggressive bullshit does matter. It's a big fuckin' deal. It does affect more than just the person spouting it. If you don't get that and can't keep your pathetically shallow, selfish, toxic opinion to yourself, you're part of the ever-present issue of there being a massive and growing pile of horseshit everywhere that everybody else has to trudge through. If it isn't a big deal to you, then shut up because it's not about you. It's about everybody else who wants that pile of horseshit to disappear so they can live a decent life, and you're getting in the way of that.
Grow up.

I don't understand why this is allowed on TL. A post with zero credibility posting private conversation? If there is someone with low moral standards these days, it seems to be the TL staff.
Overall there seems to be a strong need for better communication with the Chinese scene, not random one-liner threads and unverifiable screenshots. Yes, there is the language barrier but that hasn't stop people speaking both languages to provide complex and respectable translations from Korean sources.

The problem in this thread and with similar incidents is that people feel the need to polarise so strongly and the idea of context or a middle ground gets lost. You are either an "SJW special snowflake who gets offended by everything" or you are branded a woman hating nazi sith lord for not immediately calling for a public execution of the culprit.
Context is very important to this argument. Should TIME have said what he did? Of course not, I very much doubt Time thinks that all Korean women need to be killed. In the circumstances it seems he was drunk/frustrated and was in a private conversation with friends just bantering he didn't expect anyone to see it. This is so far removed from "hate speech". If Time went out and ate 5000 calories to start labia stretching then there is a problem, but this isn't that.
Labelling everything that uses a bad word with a hate speech brush actually clouds the issue and allows real hate speech to flourish e.g. "I said this and it got shouted down by the SJW brigade" whilst making reasonable people too scared to say anything without fear of retribution from people desperate for retweets
A reasonable outcome of this is an apology from TIME saying he didn't expect anyone to see it, was drunk and it was stupid/ heat of the moment and even a temporary suspension is fine but it's stupid to ruin a career over something like this.

The title has nothing to do with the post content and the private chat cannot be proved to be true. This post is just malicious to frame some Chinese players. Very low. From an account which also "Joined January 2019" This is not funny, I changed my computer recently and forget the password of my old account, so re-register a new one on Jan. 20. The OP author registered today is apparently just for this post. I am from China but not a Time fan at all, I don't follow any SC2 player except TY. This OP has many vulgar Chinese words, any normal adult knows Chinese will feel offensive and embarrassed when see those, not to mention underage youngsters. Even if the post is not to be removed, it should at least fold the private chat and add age-restricted warning, if this is a serious forum. Oh, so now you say it's because it's offensive, and it should be hidden. But what you said before was "Administrator, please delete this post and ban that newly registered account. The title has nothing to do with the post content and the private chat cannot be proved to be true. This post is just malicious to frame some Chinese players. Very low." so I can safely say that you claiming that "I changed my computer recently and forget the password of my old account, so re-register a new one on Jan. 20. The OP author registered today is apparently just for this post. " definitely cannot be proved to be true. So your new reply was just a distraction from the actual discussion, so that the topic will be deleted after all. Well, anyways, I have a lot of my threads removed for weird reasons, so whatever. It's just a game. I shouldn't be too serious about this.
The OP's author registered today just before the post can be proved. I registered on Jan.20 can be proved. I like TY can also be proved from my post in Best games of 2018 and StarCraft II: DeepMind Demonstration. Yes it is not easy to prove I changed my computer and browser from Mac Safari to PC Chrome. But are these any relevant? I registered this account 6 days before this OP posted, not after, so my registration date shouldn't be your reasonable doubt, OK? And it is not me that post others' private chat, so I don't need to prove anything.
Actually I asked for removal of the OP or at least folding and adding a warning for two reasons: 1. I was simply offended by those dirty talk very much, esp. the 2nd chat (by another Chinese player as said) and it has even nothing to do with GSL/Korean at all. 2. If someone post this private chat here, the motive must be very ugly and low. Even if the chats are real, why not educate that kid, why post it here? Destroy him? or destroy China pro-league?
I didn't mention the chat were filthy and me getting offended in my initial post actually because I didn't hope foreigners (except the Administrator) translate those and eat those shit again. Imagine foreigners finally learn what those dirty words mean, I feel really sorry.
So the post's content is shitty, the OP author's motive is shitty, foreigners lost in the shitty translation is shitty. Total shitty.

I mean guys, there needs to be some boundaries. If leaked private conversations were such a big deal, every LRSL tournament would be in the risk of having to be retroactively cancelled as almost every participant would be banned from life forever for their usual behaviour in certain ... communication channels.
Are we really willing to risk that?

A reasonable outcome of this is an apology from TIME saying he didn't expect anyone to see it, was drunk and it was stupid/ heat of the moment and even a temporary suspension is fine but it's stupid to ruin a career over something like this. Speaking of context, it's also part of long trend with both American and Chinese internet culture of saying things like "all __ women/people/etc. should die" and other people passing it off or downplaying it as if "oh they didn't mean it like that," "look, I know they didn't mean kill all women!" or some other weak bullshit.
It's a problem. It's a big deal. Should TIME be banned from competing forever? Well I'm not the one calling the shots but maybe not, maybe yes for a time, I think it depends on other details and whether or not TIME is willing to make a statement and what that statement is. Is TIME the only one at fault? No, but people should be held accountable.
And should people not make a big deal about it since to you and other people "they're just words" or "something some SJW and SJW is terrible"? Hell no.

Are we really willing to risk that? Honestly, that's where we're heading society wise you just have to look at what's happing on twitter and youtube to realize it. hate speech is now weaponized idea because any group can say any word or phrase and be called out for using hate speech and ruined a person/group for life.

And what about we started actually respecting other people's privacy? Why is that not even a value for some people here?
I think the right approach to any leaked thing like this should be to ignore it (unless it is evidence of illegal activity of course, then it should be reported to the authorities). In particular, media should voluntarily refrain from reporting staff that has been acquired in this way just to discourage this kind of attacks on privacy.

Are we really willing to risk that? "Are we really willing to face the consequences of our collective shittiness???" At least this take acknowledges the fact that a lot of people are shitty behind the scenes, but I also disagree with it in that it assumes there wouldn't be anybody left who isn't a closet asshat to play and compete, or that having people be just a little more responsible isn't actually a bad thing in the long term.
And who's talking about a ban for life or as if being held accountable means sitting on an upright pike for ten days? Anyone besides that one brand new account or did I miss something?
