In third person view, its hard to tell which player is doing what because its so hectic and chaotic. However, first person view can be difficult to watch also, because it can be hard to know whose pov we are watching from. Sure the name is shown, but it is where names normally are during gameplay. As an observer, looking to the bottom left corner of the screen to see the pov player really sucks. In those few seconds we look to the corner of the screen, the player could have done something really cool that we missed. I think observer mode pov should have the player's name in the top center of the screen, so when the pov changes we can easily know whose eyes we are looking through.

You could make a case for Elige as well http://wiki.teamliquid.net/counterstrike/EliGE

Though i really don't understand OW's appeal. I rarely feel like much is achieved through skill while playing. It just feels like a bunch of random encounters, where one player has a hero far better suited for that particular instance.

And yeah afaik the hardest mechanical fighting game is Super Smash Bros Melee, RTS BW and shooters I'm not sure, maybe Quake?

I still think it fails quite hard here. (fps hard to watch in general, add to that scrappy teamfights with abilities) AFAIK the OGN league which is happening at this moment in korea has decent youtube numbers (around 20k for vods) and the live audience was ok as well (not amazing though) Will koreans actually be interested to watch that game? Who knows, the big playerbase obviously helps a ton though. It is really hard to compare that, but i would argue that the (mechanical) skill required to play OW is hardly there for most cases. LOL > OW in that regard imo ![]() ![]()

Not trying to derail the thread, but OW is much more than random encounters. While there are heroes suited for particular maps, it isn't one hero that is 'far better suited'. There is a lot of depth and coordination. I won't go into any particular examples, but I think you should keep trying it to understand its depth .

IMO an esport's success is proportional to its gap between the skill floor and skill ceiling. Overwatch has a massive gap, it has a skill ceiling only slightly lower than other competitive FPSs and it has a much much lower skill floor. All Overwatch needs is a decent spectator mode (last time I watched there wasn't even a minimap) and it could be a very successful esport.

I think the only thing that matters is the size of the playerbase.
