SC2 Proleague Discontinued; SKT, KT, SGK, CJ disband - Pag…

Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system.

SC2 fans, I feel your loss. It's always a tragedy seeing your favorite game dwindle. But if you love your game you can absolutely keep it going, and I wish everyone the best, especially the Korean players.

There have been a massive number of huge retirements in the past 24 months. Jaedong, Bisu, Flash, all the star power really is gone. Life and Gerrard certainly didnt help anything either - when you can no longer idolise your champions the faithful lose faith. Now its just faceless Americans winning tournaments with so many big losses to the Korean powerhouses. Who gets advertising from that win? Not a Korean telecom unfortunately. This is the culmination of many factors obviously but Schumpeters theory of "creative destruction" rings most true for me. Starcraft was for a long time THE competitive esport. But in a new market with a multitude of esports games where millions of dollars can be thrown at singular events, the SC2 business model just didnt stack up anymore. In many ways, as a predecessor to SC1 it was always doomed for failure, with such vast differences between the Korean and Foreign playing bases. Protecting one unfortunately was always going to adversely affect the other, and it wasnt really Blizzards fault for this. Theyre being a lot smarter with Overwatch. New fresh game with a seemingly level playing field across the board to begin with. I think ironically, in many ways the world wasnt yet ready for SC2. Thanks for all the good times guys. I still remember watching in awe as Taeja and Innovation duked it out on Newkirk, and as Idra imploded time and time again. But all good things must sadly come to an end. Dont forget Starcraft. For many of us it was a defining period of our lives. Remember the good times, not the bad. Id love to see a "6 years of Starcraft 2" tribute at some point.

Is it survival when former über pros are acting as clowns on streams? I guess not everyone are doing as Bisu but still.

Your sustained and unending incompetence and greed has utterly destroyed one of the greatest eSports ever to exist. I hope you never sleep well again. If something, you have to be very grateful with Kespa, SKT sponsoring several times a tournament that has not real audience in its main market, and all the Kespa organizations keeping their teams, "wasting" their money. SC2 was a big failure in Korea after all the great history that BW had, we all know which organization is the responsible for this early shutdown.

Imo this is a golden opportunity for blizzard to redirect its resource and focus back onto where sc2 is good at: outside Korea and cancel the region lock. I was half expecting blizzard to have a huge overhaul for wcs system in blizzcon but with all these team disbanding, guess that's just a dream

One more thing is demographics. Teenagers don't play Starcraft as much as they play team games like OW/LoL/CS:GO (the latter outside Korea). And 'old people' in late 20s and early 30s who spent their high school and uni lives playing BW and/or SC2 will not be a playerbase big enough to generate sufficient viewership to justify sponsoring SPL for SC2.

Kespa has choked out Korean SC2 and did not allow any growth so it was obviously going to collapse at some point. Hopefully Korean SC2 can rebuild with a more fair system.

You can't stream for a living as a KR player doing SC2.
