Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system. |

One more thing is demographics. Teenagers don't play Starcraft as much as they play team games like OW/LoL/CS:GO (the latter outside Korea). And 'old people' in late 20s and early 30s who spent their high school and uni lives playing BW and/or SC2 will not be a playerbase big enough to generate sufficient viewership to justify sponsorong SPL for SC2.
Its an interesting point but i think youre right that the general skill level of kids these days is quite low. Its the reason LoL and Minecraft had such big viewerships, because the talent pool has nose dived in no small part thanks to "video playthroughs" and trolling behaviours which can demotivate.
Youd be hard pressed to find many children whose APM is above 400 these days (except like Dotaesque games where they just spam click rather than precision click) and that can often preclude them from games like SC2.

Best post ever :D, so true.
I dont even care anymore about what happens to sc2, this game was a disapointment all along, at every step, every major release/beta/patch was a new opportunity for the design team to let us down.

Your sustained and unending incompetence and greed has utterly destroyed one of the greatest eSports ever to exist. I hope you never sleep well again. If something, you have to be very grateful with Kespa, SKT sponsoring several times a tournament that has not real audience in its main market, and all the Kespa organizations keeping their teams, "wasting" their money. SC2 was a big failure in Korea after all the great history that BW had, we all know which organization is the responsible for this early shutdown. We can be grateful for SKT but not for Kespa. Kespa has choked out Korean SC2 and did not allow any growth so it was obviously going to collapse at some point. Hopefully Korean SC2 can rebuild with a more fair system.
SKT is one of the main and strongest members of Kespa, and for sure they made the sponsorship because not a single external company from Kespa was interested in doing it. Do you even know who are the Kespa members?

Jaedong, Bisu, Flash, all the star power really is gone. Life and Gerrard certainly didnt help anything either - when you can no longer idolise your champions the faithful lose faith. Now its just faceless Americans winning tournaments with so many big losses to the Korean powerhouses. Who gets advertising from that win? Not a Korean telecom unfortunately.
This is the culmination of many factors obviously but Schumpeters theory of "creative destruction" rings most true for me. Starcraft was for a long time THE competitive esport. But in a new market with a multitude of esports games where millions of dollars can be thrown at singular events, the SC2 business model just didnt stack up anymore. In many ways, as a predecessor to SC1 it was always doomed for failure, with such vast differences between the Korean and Foreign playing bases. Protecting one unfortunately was always going to adversely affect the other, and it wasnt really Blizzards fault for this.
Theyre being a lot smarter with Overwatch. New fresh game with a seemingly level playing field across the board to begin with. I think ironically, in many ways the world wasnt yet ready for SC2.
Thanks for all the good times guys. I still remember watching in awe as Taeja and Innovation duked it out on Newkirk, and as Idra imploded time and time again. But all good things must sadly come to an end.
Dont forget Starcraft. For many of us it was a defining period of our lives. Remember the good times, not the bad. Id love to see a "6 years of Starcraft 2" tribute at some point. Nah this is a long term issue.

Good job Blizzard, you've actually gone and killed SC2 now.
LotV has beewful, IMO. This isn't very surprising to me. The games just haven't been as good. To me they're so predictable and formulaic.

Hey, we should send them our love! Maybe someone in the Korean community could tell us if there is a way we could send them a message on a korean website or something? They sure deserve it

yeah well they're just sitting at home and playing not in a hardcore practice environment, the point is theres still a BW scene and it pretty much willed itself into existence, we can argue over how big or healthy the scene is(which I'll be the first to admit its not very healthy).
and SC2 in korea might not be able to do the same but with outside help its entirely possible that these players could thrive internationally without hurting the current foreign scene.
