Realistically though people love shit like this, it will make them money. So if I'm being optimistic hopefully that will keep them interested in continuing to work on/support/patch the actual game itself. It's probably a good thing.
as a long time fan of the SC franchise i'll date myself and quote Martha Stewart by saying : " its a good thing "
nice to see Blizzard monetizing the RTS experience in every way possible with non-essential, nice-to-have stuff.
i want the genre to continue and maybe the example Blizzard is setting can also be used in by other companies making RTS games. Or maybe its already been done in other RTS games and i can't see the forest through the trees? either way...
i still think SC2 is doomed to maintenance mode. i hope i'm wrong.
Great Job with this Blizzard!

Fuck i love it. Being part of the SC2 scene has made me a happy camper in the last couple of months. I'm really enjoying the amount of communication & effort we're seeing from blizzard for starcraft!

i think there has always been a tonne of effort. its just that voice packs, animations and dancing units are very visible. When Widowmaker got her "see through walls" Ult in Overwatch ... ever notice how you could see SC2 units silhouettes past barriers after the game was 4+ years old? coincidence u say? david kim's grandfather was the guy seen running from the grassy knoll on November 22nd... there are no such thing as coincidences.

I would love to see Starcraft Free-to-Play but only have microtransactions for cosmetics and campaigns.

I hate it. I really do. I would not care if you could turn of skins and decals and shit. Than it would not matter to me. But so we all get the shitty decals and skins (ling skin everyone?) which actually hurt the game play experience for people who play this seriously. I do not want to miss a widow mine because my opponent sprayed a decal over it (that will happen, you all know that, right?).
Again, give me a option to turn off ALL decals or skins and I would be a happy camper. But that will not happen, at least i do not see it happen.

People flaming about skins and voicepacks wow this is surely sc2 community mentality -_-

The Starter Edition is pretty much already that, but with multiplayer matchmaking and ladder locked without the appropriate expansion. The chat is locked until the player pays for a microtransaction or levels up a race or co-op commander enough.
Otherwise, co-op, custom games, and arcade are all free, along with a few missions from WoL and the LotV prologue. There weren't any race restrictions last I checked today, and team games matchmaking/ladder can be accessed by grouping with a friend.
I'd say that this is the most feature-rich demo/trial edition of a game out there. Blizzard just needs to better update and consolidate information on what the Starter Edition can and can't do.

I'm wondering who will be the first pro to spray a dick made of decals with his workers...

SKINS! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU YEAHHHHHHHHH

Remember guys this is a financial basis to get more gameplay improvements going.
If you ever thought "I wish they would just do bigger changes to the game" - this would be a reason for them.

I agree with this. the ling skin is already very annoying. It's fine that they make changes that are apparently heavily requested but it shouldn't worsen the gameplay experience of the regular players.

It's fine that they make changes that are apparently heavily requested but it shouldn't worsen the gameplay experience of the regular players. especially since I doubt this has a lot of potential to attract new players. It's good and all, but it won't make sc2 skyrocket overnight. So yeah, I think they should care about the ones wanting a "standard" competitive experience too, they're the ones actually playing the game.

So am I the only person not bothered by the ling skin?
