I had some issues a few years ago about holding my mouse in such a way that it caused pain to me. I had no idea where to post it besides come here and ask other SC2 Players, I'm having a similar issue now but with some more questions, and a different problem.
Last time the problem was my thumb, this time it's my ring finger on my right hand. Even with my fingernail cut low it seems to poke into my hand because I grip my mouse too tightly. So my questions are, how can I alter my grip (i'll eventually get used to it) to avoid that issue, or how can I work on not gripping my mouse so tightly during higher stress situations. (( Which has been scientifically proven to slow reaction time anyway)).
Just wondering for some outside opinions. I'll attach pictures of the area im having issues with, but due to the semi busted callus I won't do any closeups or high definition modeling.
It's a stupid issue but it bothers me when I play for long hours or multiple consecutive games where I get stressed and grip my mouse tightly for the 'extra precision' feel that it gives. Any idea how I can avoid getting this issue or try to keep my hand relaxed?
Buy another mouse, a bigger one. Logitech offers some bigger mices. Otherwise try to loosen the grip of the mouse. I am using a G9x which is considerbly small, i just drop my hand on it and never need to "hold" it tight with my hand. In general a thight grip isn't good for your hand. Try to move the underarm when moving the mouse, so your fingers don't need a tight hold. And do some relaxation stuff for your hand if you get stressed and try to calm yourself down.
Originally I had this issue with the steelseries sensei, a much smaller mouse than the one I have now, I'll have to look around for larger mice lol. Thinking maby the rat5 or 7 since this is the second mouse that has eventually become too small for my hand.
Yeah the deathadder is definitely way more ergonomic IMO.
If you do get a deathadder, you might also want to consider moving up your ring finger so that it shares the mouse button 2 with your middle finger (the ring finger isn't exactly on the button but resting on the curved edge (still above the rubber part though). Even with my large hands I find that it's comfortable and easy to do so.
The first Day[9] daily that I ever seen was the one where he talks about gripping the mouse and the movements your hand makes (I'm a complete noob). Not sure what daily # it was and I'm at work. I can find it when I get home. Maybe someone here can point to it before then but I suggest watching it and see if any of the stuff he talks about can help. I dont have those problems because I have 3 kids in diapers so any SC2 playtime is minimal, 2 games in a row is out of the question. Good luck bud.
I've never had finger pain, but I have had wrist pain. I wouldn't rule out a muscle/tendon issue. The best way to solve that is exercise the arms. If you don't have access to a gym, 5 sets of pushups per day in 5 minute intervals.
The way you're holding the mouse in that picture looks weird. Day 9 goes over this. You essentially want to sit like Life does.

From the pic's it looks like you're OVER holding the mouse. loosen it up a little. Also you might want to straighten your back up a little. Better posture at the PC(and everywhere else in life) can help all sorts of things and if the pics are any indicator you look like your hunched over your computer desk. The picture of Life is a perfect indicator of a better practice sitting(even he could sit a little straighter). I don't wanna seem like I'm telling you how to sit.. But when I was younger I used to sit all kinds of awkward at the PC and started to feel it the older I got. Adjusting my posture literally fixed all of this.
What settings are you playing with? Had some issues too, when i used high dpi values, now i'm playing with 1800 dpi on 1080p screen resolution, and the pain is gone. It can be because you instinctively grip the mouse more tightly, when having to move the cursor a tiny length very precisely, if your mouse speed is too high.
