So after seeing what a positive feedback that LR Blizzcon had, i thought of a TL Cup
- monthly event - sponsored by me (the exact amount would be my decision each month according to the number of players registered for the event, hype etc). - purpose: encourage lower leagues to play the game for some incentive and advance in ranking. - only TL members can participate (maybe minimum nr of posts as prerequisite?) - any league can participate
This would need: - a stream and caster(s) - at least for the games of RO8 and above - someone to organize monthly - an idea to distribute prize in such a way so that lower league players get smth too
So this would be my idea of engaging the community more into playing the game. I also thought of a sort of "play your idol" kinda cup, as in those who qualify get to name a progamer and then i contact her /him, so if youre a member of TL and you won one of these monthly cups and your idol is Vortix, then you would have a BO7 against Vortix as a reward instead of money. But this second idea could prove a lot more costly so im still trying to figure out how financially feasible it is

I'd be down to play in that :D

If it got off the ground, this would be extremely cool
|
I'd be down to provide an easy bracket for others! And I guess this playing/'fighting' against your idol is better for esports than it would be for boxing
|
It seems extremely cool, although given many people have time constraints, it would maybe run smoother as a bi-monthly
|
Sounds like a bitch to organize but if you could do it it would be amazing.
|
I would definitely participate given the chance.

Yes, that can be an idea. There would be a good incentive for the organizer as well, since it takes some effort and time (i definitely don't have the time) I imagine this going over a weekend, to fit everyone's timezone
Prize would be distributed according to participants' leagues, so masters would get a higher percentage than diamonds, and so on (to encourage players to improve)

Because with a straight-up single or double elim bracket, lower-league players will never get in the later stages of the tournaments. Do you reward the best player of each league or do you have a particular system in mind?

xtorn's literally the lord and savior of esports On a serious note, it's a pretty decent idea overall, i can get behind it for sure ! Just need to brainstorm the ways to implement all of those.

I would LOVE to play that. :D

To be honest I would think if you could persuade the Rich and some image guys to make a little cup icon and a tournament entry system here and the prize for 1st is a little icon more 1sts you get ect it levels and changes rank. Much cheaper for all involved and still would be fun. Anyway still hoping blizzard make ingame tournaments as suggested by many.
|
It would be really cool to have a for-fun TL tourney not limited to the guys who can spam the LR the fastest. If any even remotely decent player shows up, I would get torn to pieces (I am still gold after 4000 games played), but as I read some blogs about the LRSL, the level of play is not necessarily always top
I wouldn't really care for monetary prices, just fun and TL-fame Sadly, I won't be around for the next month (travelling), so I hope it's not over too fast!
|
Maybe a TL league with like 2 weeks time to play a match would be even better?
I would organize that league.
|
I like Ovid's idea! An icon would be a great prize. Maybe split it into 2 sections a diamond+master and a plat/below? Either way, I'd love to participate as well.

|
I'd love to play something like that, really like the idea
|
glad to see positive reactions
not sure about preventing smurfs, maybe check previous matches to identify a legit player or someone that lost a ton to be demoted on purpose?
will see how doable is the icons idea, are we talking about icons that would appear next to the TL icon on posts? that could be interesting, having icons that indicate the best achievement in the TL Cup, and the league it was won in. that would be a pretty fast and cool way of seeing how good someone plays just by looking at her/his forum sig

Awesome initiative xtorn! thumbs up

I would suggest maybe having two tiers of players, assuming the participation numbers are there.
If the idea is to get low-league players to play more, allowing any league to enter may have the opposite effect over time.
Nobody wants to watch or play a Silver vs GM game, even if it's the first round. Not sure how to make it even, as I'm sure Diamond v Silver wouldn't be much better, but something to talk about.
I remember competing in the NAASL or whatever (north american amateur star league iirc) and it was a ton of fun so I hope this tournament works out and I will play in it every month.

Ill help cast if you need it. I cast for CSL and some other tournaments.

I was going to say something similar but from a plat player it sounds like I'm trying to get easy brackets

Totally up for it, sounds awesome. TL + Competitive SC2 is awesome. For detecting smurfs I guess ask for previous ladder finishes?
Please don't put Masters and Diamond together though, if at all possible. The skill difference is too big right now. Masters got a LOT better and is a LOT harder to achieve.
