Stork = I also feel that Blizzard doesn’t care about SC2. There were many things announced such as level up system and unit skins at the launch of Heart of the Swarm, but they haven’t developed anything new since then, or haven’t added much to the original system. Shortly after the release of Heart of the Swarm, Heroes of the Storm was announced and Hearthstone came out. I think SC2 is the only game that’s been pushed announced. I heard that the CEO’s most favorite game is StarCraft, but the treatment that it is currently receiving is the worst.

blizzard in a nutshell

The "Blizzard doesn't care" mantra is a huge pet peeve of mine. You can criticize them for how they handled WCS, balance, Kespa/GOM, but don't parade that they don't care. SC2 is a huge charity case and if they were all about the $$$ then surely they'd pool all their resources into Hearthstone.

Then again, they've promised us that SC2 is a "ten years esport experiment" only to decrease their level of involvements after shit goes sour. Do they care about SC2? Absolutely! Do they care less about SC2! Definitely!

Maybe they aimed for more but the partial result for the experiment was evaluated as an sucess. They are trying to implement esports for both Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm after all.

But is it helping SC2 in any way? I think we all know the answer to that one.

If you have a utilitarian outlook, it's pretty dumb of them to even invest in the scene when they have bigger IPs/cash cows. So again, how does splitting resources onto other games equate to them not giving two shits about Starcraft?

If you want to get into semantics then Stork's original quote doesn't make the distinction ("less"), nor do the few people who've quoted it or the redditors who quote that one line and upvote it. Then there's the countless times this diatribe been repeated.

Then, I've never fully agreed with him.

It might be the CEO's favorite game but it doesn't mean it's their money generator and at the end of the day it's all about the money. They've said it a hundred times and one of the reasons they still do RTS games is because it's a tribute.

LOL. Good interview overall. Seems like they recognize the problem facing SCII and I don't think having more K-pop will attract attention lol. Best way is to make the game more fun to play such as adding an OP unit for each race that balance each other out and reward micro at the same time. Other than that, free to play is also not a bad idea at all if they want the game to spread but I can't see Blizzard doing that until after LoTV is out at min.

Its the last resort to make SC2 more popular in Korea.

I like their honest answers, even though they seem to picture a grim future for SC2. That seems to be the truth and we can only hope to prolong it as much as possible.

I actually belive that bringing K-pop girls has some semblence of reason. Why? The popularity of girl groups, boybands and idols in Korea is so massive that it would without fail give SC2 gigatic exposure due to the sheer amount of new eyeballs watching the event.
That's why girl groups themselves mean nothing. It's what hey bring to the table and that is a potential new fanbase orders of magnitudes bigger that Starctaft's

I hope Avilo gets some good return one of these days. Seems like Koreans say the same thing in sc2 why mech is weak atm. Love flash and his style.

was wcs badly handled? yeah, but not that much

and the balance issues are more a map problem IMO. I disagree with you , and gonna say that balance seems to be like the unique area where blizzard cares. They bring a balance patch every 4 months!. On the other hand they don't bring any kind of patch to improve the gameplay, interface, performance.

DOTA had 4 patches improving the fps of the game in the las year, for any pc, with any video card. if anyone has one patch of blizzard saying they improved the performance of the game please link me it.

blizzard could improve the spectator experience, to the best example like dotatv, but here we are, 2 years later after the TI2 with dotatv and blizzard simply doesn't care about this. blizzard brought some few things in the release of hots, and then, they simply say "not my job". the day they add this will be too late.

http://www.stormcraft.com/en/news/19275-dustin-browder-confirms-lost-vikings

StormCraft: From what I know Heroes of the Storm and StarCraft II use the same engine, right? Does this mean that a similar feature could be added to StarCraft II?

Dustin: I cannot promise you when that will happen, but yes – it definitely enables that feature. It would have to be developed, though, and currently nobody is working on it.

blizzard acts pretty slow if compared with valve / riot. in terms of improve the game. this is an armsrace and blizzard doesn't care.

Great interview. I think Stork is a tad bit reaching with needing K-POP girls to improve SC2's popularity in Korea. But desperate times for for desperate measures I figure. It could work, but the SC2 boom basically ended around early 2012 after 2011 being such a peak year and we'll probably see even levels of it now. LotV will bring interest back, and after several months it will wane yet again since Blizzard just doesn't give SC2 the care it deserves.

As for Flash, it kind of concerns me that he just wants to gut through his wrist issues again. I think he may be on borrowed time, he could always go for another surgery in the future. But even though it's a different condition, I hope it doesn't dehabilitate him so much it's gets as painful as MVP's own injury. I'm not saying Flash should just retire when his wrist pains get too bad, but it may be for the best in the end.

Since the community and the players can't make core design changes to the game, yes it is.

Yeahh I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I could be off in my opinion but I think the biggest part of what makes SC2 lackluster to watch is how much easier they actually made the game to play.

With a standard amount of practice, players can reach near-perfect macro, max out very quickly, and utilize that maxed out army in as few as 1 control groups. This is why I think the game is so stagnant, it's made so much harder to shine in.
