There are way more progamers than what the scene can actually support. The thing is that the majority come back after a short period of time as if nothing has happened. They say they're retired and then keep showing up in qualifiers, hoping to make it into a big tournament to have a reason to come back. I mean at this point; I almost feel like "I'm retiring" is a way for a player to fool himself into playing without pressure for a while, rediscovering the passion for the game and then returning to being a pro. also, hots is getting kinda old and pros are getting kinda sick of it That doesn't really explain why they keep coming back though what I meant was that players who are hovering around retirement right now will probably find new inspiration to make a proper push to come back when lotv is released

Naturally, but gradually scaling down the amount of matches you play has to be a better way to "retire" than abruptly stopping for a few weeks/months only to come back and have to start the process over again. I know that life-changing decisions don't come easy or are easy to stick to, but recurring comebacks only serve to make it worse.

HOTS is basically the same game as WOL minus the brood lord infestor. It's been the same game for 4 years. You either love it or you don't. If you're the kind of person who goes for new games, you'll be bored in 2 weeks anyway. Not to mention, if they quit for a year, you would hope they would pursue some career and be too busy to just come back on a whim.

They quit because of a combination of rational and emotional reasons (no results, it's pointless, losing feels bad) and come back because (they are missing the thrill, it's hard to find other things to fill their time with, it's something they are good at). Pretty easy to understand with just a tiny bit of thought.

Okay it's not exactly a retirement but it's close to it if he doesn't pull out good results soon

I just think ppl growing up and want to explore the life, not only sitting at the computer..
