Assuming we're talking about DPS for cost or per supply, how do people forget marines? ![]() Marines around the same as hydralisks (less when either unit has an upgrade disadvantage vs the target, more when either unit has an upgrade advantage vs the target) BEFORE stim packs. Hydralisks can't stim. :S Supply-wise, 1 immortal should normally just beat 2 hydralisks too (and upgrades should favour immortals, due to Hardened Shield mitigating the extra damage from the zerg missile upgrades). It's about a similar mineral cost, possibly slightly less for zerg, for hydras to beat an immortal in hydra vs immortal engagements (yes, this is purely ignoring other units causing splash damage, guardian shield etc.), a higher gas cost for zerg and a higher supply cost. So no, protoss players, hydralisks aren't really all that good vs immortals anyway and you have a vastly improved ability to keep up economically in HotS. Hydra vs stalkers, always pretty much 1 for 1 before blink which means pretty equal except less minerals from zerg, blink changes everything though. So while I don't think that many zergs really feel hydralisks need a buff or redesign as much as say corruptors, the idea that hydralisks should be buffed a little is far from completely unfounded or new. I certainly recall a lot of complaints about hydra strength from pros back in the day, pre-speed upgrade, but that does not at all address the actual unit strength. Utility for sure, and ability to micro it, but the speed upgrade is not as impressive as blink (heck, they still move slower off-creep than blink stalkers anyway if you want to be really picky ![]() I'm also not saying they absolutely NEED a buff, but I think testing different possible buffs is a good move if they want to help good game design. More situations to choose more hydralisks over more roaches would be good for the game, I think, especially in situations where the improved roach burrow speed isn't useful. Remember when roaches were a ridiculously good massing unit (Hi Stephi)? We still see huge amounts of them at times, why not see if we ("we"=they, i.e. Blizzard) can help it to be a little more mixed? If you're going to touch the cooldown, there are two approaches in my view: #1: So that zerg players can make use of micro with hydralisks without losing too much DPS, raise damage but increase cooldown so that less damage output is lost while moving. If hydralisks needed a buff in addition to that, you can work out the new higher DPS based on that larger cooldown (slower ROF). #2: Decrease cooldown but even more than this while lowering Hydralisk base damage to 10 so that none of the base damage is mitigated by the immortal's shields to start with, given that immortals are designed to be fantastic against armoured units, not all ground units (I'm not saying they're the latter), so perhaps it makes some sense to improve hydralisks that way as it wouldn't need to be a large overall increase in DPS, so it wouldn't do a lot to hydras VS soul train, but it would make them that bit more useful there.

Anyhow thanks for the video Khaldor, waiting on the book reviews. I'm not sure if a show is the right thing, but maybe I'll do videos like this a bit more often. Or just general discussions about topics within the scene. I'll give it some thought ![]()

Perhaps Blizzard would listen to them more as well. i think almost any pro would love to share their views. the important thing is having people like khaldor actively looking to create a channel of communication between players and fans, like he's doing with this thread

So yeah, this format of getting a pro to discuss something now and then is just fine
