Boxer is embarassing... No pride. Who plays a game to try to intentionally lose, even if it might be the "best" option at the time. That's like some1 playing scII and intentionally losing in a tournament to get easier opponents through seeding. Sure, it's the best possible option/outcome for the player, but it's fking boring for the viewers, and leaves a bad taste in their mouths.(For those who maybe had to pay to go watch that match/tournmanet live) and for the player's fans too.
So he should just let the game carry on normally when that guarantees that he goes to the death match? He went on the show to try to win the whole thing, not to try to look good to the viewers.
As Sangmin and Junseok have said, beautiful defeats aren't worth anything.
Also, your losing an SC game to get easier opponents analogy is not unheard of, I remember Flash and Jaedong both tried to lose the game in some WCG in an attempt to avoid Bisu on the way to the finals.
So he should just let the game carry on normally when that guarantees that he goes to the death match?
No, the game didn't carry on "normally". Boxer tried to fk the politician up, fked himself up, got fked, then proceeded to fk every1 else up. Normal would have been, trying to win through skills. Not shady shit where he strikes a deal, and then tries to do some shady shit to the other person like he's done last week, this week, and a lot of other weeks too. Plus, he still had a chance to win before he went on the self destruction road(again).
He went on the show to try to win the whole thing, not to try to look good to the viewers.
No.... The whole point of the show is to look good/entertain the viewers. That's what the show wants, what the staff wants and what the viewers want. Sure, Boxer can say fk you to all that, and only want to win. But then now you have no more genius cuz viewers aren't watching, you have Boxer who leaves the show with a fked up image, and now viewers are robbed of a potentially good show. Grats Boxer, all you got was a chance, not even a guranteed chance to survive, just a shot at 50K. That cash is worth less than a year of Boxer's old BW salary.
Also, it's better for Boxer to have a better image because it leads to longevity and new opportunities. Look at Yellow. The Genius was a godsend opportunity for him. He didn't even have to win the second season, but he left with more than any1 else.
As Sangmin and Junseok have said, beautiful defeats aren't worth anything.
Hmmmm, I wonder what's better. A beautiful defeat, or an ugly defeat. Either way, he's still losing. Sure, he gets an opportunity to survive by getting an ugly defeat, but I'm sure Boxer envisioned himself winning the Genius by losing every main match and barely surviving until the end through self deprecation. And all the viewers and his fans wanted to see him win that way too.
Also, your losing an SC game to get easier opponents analogy is not unheard of, I remember Flash and Jaedong both tried to lose the game in some WCG in an attempt to avoid Bisu on the way to the finals.
Imagine any1 trying that shit in a televised match, not some third rate tournament that went down the drain, that wasn't even publicly televised. Oh wait, Remember what happened with Naniwa when he intentionally lost?
All I'm trying to say is that, winning at the end isn't the end all be all. Because even if Boxer wins, the damage done to his image is probably worth more than 50K. Even if he were to win, there is already too much damage done to Boxer's image for it to be worth the win on a cable tv show. And even though Boxer doesn't give a fuck, as a fan I am just personally disappointed in Boxer, and the decisions he's made, and the way he's played the game so far. And so are a lot of others. And yes, fans, to a celebrity like Boxer, is a big deal.

You didn't read my post properly... I said "So he should let the game carry on normally?" as a response to your suggestion that he shouldn't have lost intentionally. It's pretty obvious what happened in the game wasn't normal -_-
If he didn't do what he did Sangmin or Junghyun would have won and he would have almost certainly gone to the death match.
The bottom line is that he can either use these unorthodox tactics and survive, even if some of his "fans" don't like it, or he can just get eliminated not having done anything on the show.
Damn, with his career earnings and what he won on the Genius, you'd think he could afford much better housing. Although I guess it's tough to beat a location where you never have to walk farther than across the street to get your daily activities done...
Thanks! It was a good insight to Jinho's life, although nowadays I am not keen to see Boxer and his 'lovely' wife Gayeon again. Heard that Jinho had to post a late-night sorry to Gayeon after the show broadcast yesterday about his remark that she was too protective of Boxer.
Kong life & problems is similar to mine. Me too~ Living in small room, like to computer. Play some games, then do other stuff.
But I lack the exercise part keke. Now I see him diligent, I will do little bit of dancing after writing these.
~~~~~~~~~~I feel so happy watching his life. It is heart warming for I dont noe why kkkkk!
And I like him tackle his problems of pronouncing words, and exercise, and trying to go broadcasting as permanent career.
Now I will dance and exercise, keep my bones straight and healthy. Hey I have problems pronoucing too, maybe it is due to play too much computer . I will practice too. And, I will work hard for my future career too. Thank you Yellow~
I just feel so close to Yellow after watch this. But reality, we are far apart . Speak different language, in different place . .
<3<3 Yellow . You lose The Genius Season 2 but to me u are still the best <3 .
He probably lives in a nice part of Seoul to make up for it. Can't believe Heechul is 30 already, yikes, time flies.
I don't remember people crying that JungHyun got ugly victory by not trying to win with skills against HongChul. To me he did same thing as BoxeR, it's not theirs fault that games leave room for "breaking" them. YellOw wins looked better but I think he would act in similar way to BoxeR late season 2 too.
Boxer is season 2 champion. Smart that he pretty much scouted out and studied junghyuns number game playstyle and then proceeded to wreck him. Sangmin's not as strong as a pro gamer in terms of 1v1. I don't see him winning. The fact that sangmin went to 0 deathmatches until almost the end for 2 seasons now is a pretty amazing feat.
You're forgetting that South Korea has a different style when it comes to paying for a house/apartment. It's usually a Jeonse system where tenants pay a rather large sum up front and then get it back after a certain period of time. I haven't checked the video yet but it's more than likely that Jinho is doing this with his apartment.
This video was pretty good until Jinho and the 2 forever alones were talking about not having girlfriends. Like... come on you guys are on tv don't be so pathetic lol.
BTW, many of the games featured on this show (as well as some of the background themes) seem to be based on a Japanese manga called "Liar Game" (http://mangafox.me/manga/liar_game). Maybe this has been mentioned before though.
Great manga. Tactical, psychological maneuvers into unexpected triumphs.
Edit: Seems like liar game has been mentioned previously. No one has linked it to the manga though, I don't think.
Yeah the link is pretty obvious if you're familiar with both, as well as similar links to Kaiji, in the whole premise of shady man/organization giving out money to people who win certain games. The Korean wiki page for the Genius even mentions some sort of copyright/plagiarize controversy here although I'm not sure how legit that is since there's no citation.
If there is a storyline or a plot then it will be more amazing
Maybe in final Ro4 or the FInal they get to solve a puzzle together to uncover the whole story behind Genius or something. Or uncover the truth behind the faceless guy.
The faceless guy start to lose his . . . how do u call it? gimmick? His cool?
He just start to look normal the more episode he is in. Like from the big organiser of Genius into just a mere announcer . . .
This is a contest show not a drama like liar game. Liar game is great due to the storyline but genius depends on player interactions and comes off more as a humorous show.
Its just something I suddenly dream, dont take it seriously. But it is nice if it has a little bit extra in it .
