They expected Korean BW fans to follow their heroes and favorite teams after the switch, as well as to gain momentum, and expand its fanbase beyond what it was at the end of KeSPA BW. Not only was there no momentum, you can safely the KeSPA fanbase shrank. It is hard to say whether anyone is at fault. Those are some difficult things to predict and hindsight is easy. Nonetheless it is pretty clear that the Korean professional scene must shrink further until things are balanced out again. SC2 itself probably isn't doing any worse at all, but since it also didn't grow is exactly why there is too large of a professional fundation in Korea to be supported by it. I don't think it is even possible to switch to a new game and keeping the status quo at the same time (plus gaining new fans). Fans of the old games will feel alienated, old heroes will fall which will upset their fans, new heroes will rise. Somebody clearly had unreal expectations how everything will turn out. Only time will tell what will come out of it. ![]()

About the Korean faction though - actually - I think that the Korean scene shouldn't shrink, but instead it should get another Prime Tournament like the Dreamhack for EU currently is, and suddenly we might see some more of the Korean-region Koreans have chances in WCS from the actual Korean region, while leaving some space for the foreigners that haven't yet proven as good to have more chances overall.. While speaking of this I also hope that there will be more and better representatives (especially Terran) from the foreigners as well.. ![]()

How do you get another prime tournament if the market isn't there?

Players losing their jobs, or franchises with a long history disappearing, is plenty to be sad about though. Losing corporate teams, a model that made BW what it was, definitely hurts the scene for me. I would value them over any individual-run gaming clubs these days. WJ dropped their players for the same reason such a massive amount of Korean players have joined foreign teams. It's been obvious for a long time that Korea did not have the means to support the massive SC2 scene they had. It's going to keep shrinking, but that could be something great. Depending on the cooperation between GOM and KeSPA, this could allow Korea to build a massively successful infrastructure and help skyrocket the professional scene to stability. Or They could keep down the path they are going and accidentally screw over the pros. Either way, I think things will get much better before 2015, or at least change for January will be announced before 2015. That's my opinion.
