About SC2VN
SC2VN is an interactive visual novel about a foreigner player trying to break into the StarCraft 2 progaming scene in a fictional South Korea. The novel revolves around the trials around trying to break out in Korea and the issues of leaving everything behind in order to become a progamer.
We drew from events and characters that are familiar to ourselves and the player audience, though their depictions are entirely works of fiction and parody and are not meant to accurate in the slightest. This game is SFW and contains no nudity, though some harsh language.
Gameplay
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/bqEPalh.jpg)
The game is a Visual Novel, which is an interactive storytelling game where the player reads through the experience of the character and makes decisions that can affect the outcome of the game. Currently, the game is still a demo and thus more linear than traditional visual novels that have multiple endings. The demo is still a proof of concept.

Click through each scene to advance the story line, and help the main character best his opponents on the ladder by helping him make in-game decision that may decide his progaming career.

Two days ago, we made a bit of a rushed celebration video to celebrate reaching our $7,000 goal for SC2VN. About 2 days later, fundraising has officially ended and we’re sitting well over $8000 which unlocked our first stretch goal. It’s an extremely surreal feeling to see SC2VN go from ideas in a Skype call, to a demo, to now a fully funded project to be made into a full-fledged game.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/BPZXbJa.png)
The entire team is blown away by the support of both our backers and those who helped spread the word to their friends and family. We received a lot of feedback from both StarCraft community members and those who didn’t know about esports, and it was amazing to see the demo have universal reach.
As our fundraising period wraps up, we’re immediately kicking into production mode. We will be reaching out to our backers by next week to begin sorting out our backer rewards. A new script is in the works, and our artist will be pumping out new character art for the final game. It’s only the beginning of our journey but we’ll keep the community with us every step of the way.
We’ll be having both public and exclusive streaming events throughout our development process. Backers will get a more in depth look into the development process and those redeeming the higher rewards will have a hand in the story and side character development. This game was supported by the community and will be made for the community.
Alongside our usual text updates, we’ll be having weekly video updates on our YouTube page which you can subscribe to. We’ll keep our Development blog on Tumblr and our updates on Twitter and Facebook active throughout the process. Feel free to reach out to any channel if you have any questions or concerns.

10/11/13 Update
The news just broke that MarineKingPrime (MKP) has recently switched games from StarCraft 2 to League of Legends. For those unfamiliar with the esports landscape, it’s very rare for a player to switch to a different competitive gaming genre and find success. SC2VN drew one of its character inspirations from MKP himself due to his influence in professional StarCraft, and we felt it would be appropriate to talk a bit about his history and departure.
MarineKingPrime gained notoriety in StarCraft 2 when he first appeared in the GSL under the ID of Boxer. At the time, he was dubbed “Fake Boxer” or “Foxer” because he shared the nickname of one of the most popular StarCraft players of all time - SlayrS_Boxer. MKP turned heads when he defeated the first StarCraft 2 GSL champion - FruitDealer in convincing fashion and made it to the grand finals only to fall short to NesTea.

Due to his excellent marine unit control, he changed his name to MarineKing due to the request of his fans (with Prime being his team’s tag). MKP soon became known as the “King of Silver” due to placing 2nd in many tournaments during his 2011 competitions. He finally achieved a run of championships in 2012, placing first in MLG events and also clutching a win for the Prime team during the GSTL event at IPL4. He became one of the most accomplished and well known progamers in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty.

In this news update, we explore the history of StarCraft and the first progamers who ventured to Korea to live their dream. The focus is on the history of these players, and how they inspired the story and world for our game.
Ret and NoNy are two active StarCraft 2 players who have also experienced one of the most competitive Korean tournaments in StarCraft: Brood War. In Brood War, professional players had to obtain a progaming license from KeSPA (The Korean eSports Assoication) by competing in the Courage tournament. Back then, this was the gateway tournament to getting into a professional team and competing in the big leagues. Neither managed to make it through the entire bracket, though Ret did attempt numerous times. Their entire journey is documented through video by Artosis:
There are many stories and examples for StarCraft 2 as well, but I wanted to highlight the Brood War examples since these players really were the first to attempt such a feat. Internationally, esports has matured greatly since then, and players have much more opportunity without finding the need to move to Korea. Still, it’s still inspiring to read and watch these stories from the previous decade and witness the history in comparison to how things are today.

Character Profile - Mach
As we embark on the latter half of our Kickstarter, we’d like to take this opportunity to highlight another one of SC2VN’s characters and explain our naming process.
Characters in SC2VN are referred to by their professional gamer handles by both their fellow characters and the game itself. You won’t see or likely even learn most characters’ first or last names. That’s something we’ve done intentionally. We aim to emphasize the Starcraft’s importance as something more than just a game that our characters play: It forms their very identity.

FAQ
Q: Why is this game so short?
A: This build was meant to be a demo to be released to the community to gather feedback and see how engaging the current storyline can be. Everything is up for change.
Q: When is the full game going to come out?
A: We don't know. We have ideas of what a full fledged game would look like, but are still gathering feedback.
Q: What about [OTHER POPULAR ESPORTS GAMES]
A: In a future version of the game, the characters may interact with progamers from other esports titles. For now, it is just purely focused on the SC2 scene.
Q: Where is the dating?
A: This is still an early build, and a focus on dating and romance wasn't something meant to be conveyed. In the full game, there are plans to have routes that are not only romance based, but also career based - what team house do you want to join? What tournaments do you participate in? Who are your practice partners? We're open to romance options in a complete game as well.
Q: Where can we leave feedback?
A: Tweet @ us (twitter handles below) with what you thought about the game and what you would like to see in the future. Constructive criticism is welcome. Feel free to leave a post in this thread as well.
About Team 11:11
SC2VN began as an idea when I contacted Vogue (known for his witty SC2 videos) after I saw his SC2 Dating Sim parody video and seeing how well it was written. What seemed like a funny joke turned into a motivated project to try and create a game that could be legitimately be based on the experiences of aspiring progamers in esports, and to also make an awesome game.
