I am personally very excited for this tournament. Small tournaments can be really good and looking at the lineup thus far, the games have the potential to be awesome. People crying about Red Bull not supporting the NA scene can cry, if they want, but that is just bullshit (not even mentioning that there's no law to state that all NA tournaments must cater for the scene lol).

Fully invitational again?
If Red Bull is to replace MLG some qualifications and more players would be nice to see.

They could have done 16 players and a 30k prize pool and spent about the same amount of money(assuming they are paying for flights).

Take this guy's word for it everybody.

And lol @ the notion redbull should care about how many SC2 pros aren't getting paid.

It's great for the 8 players, but there are a lot more than 8 Starcraft 2 pro(not semi-pro, but full time pro) players that need to earn a living. Of course we can't complain about additional tournaments and I'm sure the tournament itself will be fun to watch and great for the players who go to it but I can't help but feel it could have been done better.

It may be a venue thing and they don't have the space accommodate more players or a second stream to worth through the matches in a reasonable time frame.

Pretty excited for this tournament; definitely going to take a shot at those qualifiers. Thx to redbull for putting out more qualifiers :3

Do you think it costs $20,000 for 8 players' travel and accommodation for one weekend?

Sure, Red Bull doesn't have to care about sc2 pros not being paid but more players in their tournament wouldn't be a bad thing for their viewer numbers.

That's possible, but I saw a picture of the venue on Reddit and it looked quite big. I think they could make 16 players work over 2 days if they choose the right format. 4 groups round robin into single elim playoffs could probably be done in 2 days.

I'm not sure if redbull pays for travel. I think last year they didn't and I remember day9 paid for last shadow to attend out of his own pocket.

You can't compare sc2 prize money to sports like tennis and golf. In those sports even players far from being stars can make a decent living just from competing in tournaments. People complain about koreans taking all the prize money because the prize money is small and limited in sc 2.

If there was enough prize money to go around where foreigners wouldn't have to finish in the top 5 of tourneys to make money and could do just fine financially being in the top 32, there would be less of an outcry over koreans winning everything.

Depends on how much equipment they use. I think it will get real tight if they get a camera jib in there or any other professional production equipment.

I believe the phrase is: Everyone gets paid if they qualify. Avoids the need to pay for travel if everyone gets a piece of the pie.

In that type of venue i would more bet on a rail cam attached to the two sides, leaves space on the floor and still give sick camera shots

No way.. this could have been my first ever attendance of a huge eSports event since I live in the five boroughs but instead I am going to Las Vegas to take my girlfriend to a Michael Buble concert.
